Ryan Reynolds is the Green Lantern

It's one thing to dislike something, but don't pretend that everyone is in agreement with you. It's like if someone is hating on the new Star Trek but accepting that it was a hit and it was still a relevant movie then that's cool with me.

I personally wasn't fond of Paramount doing a Star Trek reboot (it was at the "beating-a-dead-horse stage" for me), as well as some of the relative newcomer casting (Chris Pine, John Cho) closer to production. The trailers didn't win me over too, but I went to see it because of the incredible word-of-mouth it was getting. And I was simply blown away when I saw it the first time, and the second time holds up incredibly well.

But to live in La-La land and boycotting something that you haven't seen..well that's just super nerdy.

Or incredibly ignorant. He's never ever seen the actual theatrical trailer for TDK? He never ever wants to give unknown/out-of-the-box casting choices the benefit of a doubt? I think someone should just tie him to a chair and force him to watch Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Then if he still doesn't like the new reboot, he at least has seen the movies.

As for ryan being hal, yea not my first choice in who i would have liked to seen. But we can at least be glad they didnt end up with a justin timerlake as hal that would have ruined it alot for comic fans. Will ryan do well with hal probably so. But i am willing to wait to see some footage of ryan as hal before i condem/praise him for the role. We have no clue how he will play the character, and how campbell would like him to play the role. Like i said before they have a solid director in campbell and i sure he will be able to mix comedy, drama, scifi elements well and make sure he can get the best out of the actors. Plus we have no clue who is going to play the likes of sinestro, or carol, and if its good actors like a craig or a bryne it would help with ryan's acting.

can you stop calling him 'goofball'.
Nah, every time I see this actor's face, the name goofball comes to mind. And his performance usually helps with the goofy look that he always has on his face.

Everyone says that, guy. :awesome: <-- haha, I finally used that silly flapjack smilie.

It may be true but still, how long you have been around means literally nothing.
I didn't say that it did, the man called me a noob and was just correcting him. Even if I was, it wouldn't change my mind about how poorly cast the role of Green Lantern is.

Watch The Nines for god sakes. It's great and starnage and Reynolds is fantastic. His first character is alot like Hal.

I find the "Ryan did comedy so I dont like him as Hal" argument to be pretty silly especially when Ryan has had a well rounded career content-wise.

I remember a time when if someone would say "Hal Jordan is boring" it would be met with hundreds of replies saying "But he is a hot-shot, anti-authority, womanizing pilot how can you not like him." I find it hard to believe people cannot see Reynolds performing that role considering his more popular and audience accessible performances have been in some way related to that generality. Not the first choice, but a good choice nonetheless.

Do you know how many of our greatest actors have done or started out doing comedy?

Yea most actors first start in one style of work like comedy or scifi, and then they become more rounded out with dramas/comedies/etc.... styles. So we shouldnt bash him to we have footage to show if he is good as hal or if his hal is crap. Personally as i said i have nothing against his work. I seen his comedy which i like, i seen his drama, which is also good. So i know he can do both and hold his own.

Heck take for example alot of star trek actors, they are mostly all know for that great work in scifi/drama stuff. But then their is tons of them who are great singers/theater actors. So untill there is footage of the actor in the role we dont know how he is going to turn out.

^ Michael Keaton

Eric Bana started out doing stand-up and sketch comedy shows.

For the looks of it, I dont' even think Vis is gonna bother seeing The Nines at this rate.

I've learned my lesson from the Heath Ledger and RDJ b**ching that I was doing. I will still whine about obviously bad casting like Katie Holmes, Jessica Alba, Ben Affleck, Nic Cage and the like but no more about choices that have a decent chance of pulling off their roles.

Reynolds is talented and will be great IMHO.

I still can't understand why people were against RBJ. I had no idea who he was until he was cast in IM. I researched him, found out about his past and movies, and said, "he's perfect."

You complained about RDJ????

People who thought he was too old and not good-looking enough to be Tony Stark. One complaint I read more than once was that he'd be utterly unconvincing as a playboy ladies' man, evidently from people who had never seen the guy perform before.

I think the problem the studio had in casting this role was the pressure to find someone with a funny reputation or someone who's done alot of comedic roles to sort of fit the persona of the Hal Jordan character. That's why Jack Black was originally pursued to do this. They cast Ryan Reynolds to appease the fans.

Jack Black was originally pursued because the script was an outright slapstick comedy which I'm pretty sure he helped develop as a vehicle to star in. This one isn't.

Heh.

As long as Reynolds tones down the smarm a bit, he could be a very good Hal Jordan.

I think one major benefit of Ryan Reynolds' casting as Green Lantern is that it has given the movie a presence within mainstream circles where otherwise it would have remained an unknown entity. Green Lantern is even being discussed on CNN News two years before its release:

Blair Butler frames a good argument for why the casting of Ryan Reynolds is a good thing.

You needed someone like Reynolds who is popular enough to attract some attention to the film. He's a good actor and if you read the script especially when he's sleeping with that girl and the boyfriend comes home u can picture him pulling that off

Well, no one in their right mind is going to argue his star power. He's been extremely visible lately.

Agreed. I think no word more aptly describes the source of my concern than "Smarm." So long as he steers clear of that, it'll be smooth sailing.

I finally watched New Frontier the other day, and I'm hoping Reynolds plays him something like that... a good guy that's just a little too cocky for his own good.
