Sam Raimi Says Darkman Sequel Conversations Happening

TheWrap asked Raimi if he’s ever thought about a “Darkman” legacy sequel. And much to our surprise, the answer was yes. “Yes. Universal is talking about a ‘Darkman’ sequel. There’s a producer attached,” Raimi confirmed. “I haven’t heard the story yet or gone into it, I’ve been
so busy with this movie. But I think it’s cool.”

Universal has not yet announced any plans to continue the “Darkman” franchise nor have they confirmed the project officially, so any discussions may just be exploratory at this time.

Raimi admits that there were initially plans for a “Darkman” franchise in the ’90s but they were thwarted by the disappointing box office. “We were probably thinking if it’d be successful there’d be more,” he said. But he isn’t sitting on some ideas from that period that he’d love to finally bring to fruition.

One thing’s for sure – if Liam Neeson is up for it, Raimi would love to have him back. “I don’t know if he’d do it,” Raimi said. “But he’d be incredible

And we can finally forget those horrible DTV sequels ever existed!

Oh man if Neeson comes back and Raimi directs i would be so on board for this!

Of course Liam Neeson would do it. Have you seen his last decade of film choices lol

That said, it makes sense. Universal wants in on that superhero movie money!

I wasn't even aware that sequels existed. But I can yet imagine the sheer badness of them lol.

If not Raimi, then Josh Ruben. He’s been chomping at the bit.

I think Darkman is just better where it stands. Besides Neeson is getting up there.

I came here about to post the same thing haha. Neeson would take just about any stupid action hero role now. He’s practically become his own genre.

Sacrilege, I know, but I think I ended up kind of preferring Vosloo as Westlake.

But then again, I haven't actually seen those two sequels in years.

The third one earns points for using the name “Darkman” not once, not twice, but THREE times in the title.

That should become a thing. Every time you make a numbered sequel, you need to repeat the original title that many times in the sequel title. So far, only Die Hard 2: Die Harder and Darkman 3: Die Darkman Die have done this, to my knowledge.

The next film should be called Darkman 4: Darkman Returns to the Be the Darkman in the Dark, Man.

The first movies pulpy charm sustains and it's very much of it's era, it would be interesting to see what direction they went with the story for a legacy sequel, 30+ years on.

Personally, I’d rather Raimi finally direct a reboot of The Shadow.

I've still ot a soft spot for the Alec Baldwin version but it's a shame Raimi never got his take off the ground.

Funny coincidence that Ruben and Neeson expressed interest ten days apart, and then Raimi mentioned early talks yesterday.

I wonder if they’ll ever give The Shadow another shot. I’ve never been sure whether the Baldwin movie flopped because there just wasn’t interest in the character or because the movie wasn’t great. I loved Baldwin in the role and it had a great atmosphere but some things just didn’t work.

I would love to see a live action adaptation of Masks (The Shadow, Green Hornet, Kato, the Spider, etc.). It’s a bit too big for a movie but it could make a GREAT streaming series.
