Samurai Jack Thread

The season probably could've used another episode to flesh out some things and help the pacing. But overall it was a strong finale to the series. I was surprised by how sad the ending was. It seemed as though the conclusion could've gone a few different ways but the way they went was quiet, subtle, and bittersweet.

A part of me wishes we could get some extended footage if and when the season gets released.

There's a leaked screenshot from the finale out there that didn't make it in, so it makes me wonder if there were more scenes included in the finale that were cut due to time constraints.

Englishman here, just wanted to know that's all. No hard feelings, yeah?

I wouldn't say the finale was a letdown but it was rushed.

There was way too much Ashi this season and it detracted from Jack's journey. The finale really need to be a two-parter. It didn't even really address the fate of Jack's friends in the future and if he basically wiped them from existence as well, just like Ashi.

Aku should have brought this up when he had Jack captured and everyone was watching.

Don't see why he would. At that point he had no knowledge Ashi would break free and use his powers for her own advantage.

That and, every time portal was destroyed by then, so it wouldn't make much sense for Aku to tease Jack about it unless he wanted to drive the knife deeper into his hopes of ever going back to the past at all.

It didn't make much sense for the show not to address it all considering all of Jack's friends came and rallied to save his life and probably the rest of the earth from Aku's tyranny. So that's a pretty moot point.

That I agree. I like the first part of the finale fine, but it's in the last 7 minutes where the majority of the flaws start popping up for me.

I don't think any of Jack's allies were contingent on Aku to exist. Their societies were all good, pre-existing things that had been corrupted by Aku, but they were not created by him in the same way Ashi was. Ashi was intrinsically tied to Aku, which is why she ceased to exist after Aku was destroyed. What I don't get is why it took so long for that to happen. I guess the realization just didn't hit Ashi until the wedding day? It was a little contrived.

I recall Gurren Lagann being brought up given the similar endgame. I don't think I mind the slight difference as much as it was more poignant in that other example with those two lovers secretly knowing the inevitable.

This was why I was expecting him to defeat Aku in the future rather than go back to the past to do it.

Arguably they are. Some of their societies were on Earth because of Aku as well and him drawing other alien migrants to Earth.

if they ever make a live-action Samurai Jack film, and they include Ashi in it, they should consider Sun from Sense8... she's a little older-looking than Ashi, but facially and hair-wise, she's the spitting image of Ashi...

I hope Samurai Jack is never made in live action. You can't capture the beauty of this show in live action.

True, although if you had to hold me at gunpoint for a director choice, I'd probably say Quentin Tarantino.

Get zack snyder/larry fong on the visuals, the only ones i know if who could pull off a a palette so rich and vast.

I have zero issue with the show not addressing the fate of Jack's future friends. Everything doesn't need to be spelled out (cough)midichlorians(cough)...let the viewer speculate on that if s/he chooses. Jack's goal for the entire series was to get back to the past and stop Aku.

Imo stopping aku in the past saved generations and generations of different civilizations from the suffering and opression aku put on them.

Here's something that's been pointed out.

Since Jack pretty much undid all of Aku's influence in the future, that means the Guardian wasn't killed, and is presumably still guarding the time portal (remember, he told Jacj he'd been guarding it for eons, so it's safe to say he's most likely alive during Jack's time period).

I wonder if Genndy is aware he left this plot point open as well.

His goal was always to get back to the past. And goal achieved. #timetravelgoals

Before the start of this new season, all the time portals have been destroyed.

Yeah, but since Jack destroyed Aku in the past, you could speculate those portals still remain active in the past (at least the Guardian one most likely does). That's what I meant to say.

Speaking as someone who has major problems with the finale, yeah, this is stupid and pointless.

Even Phil LaMarr brought this up in one of his recent podcasts.

oh, for f***'s sake... GIVE IT UP ALREADY, take what you got, live with it and be done with it...

the entire SamJack universe does not revolve around Ashi, though it seems as if she DOES in YOURS... :funny:
