DC Television Sandman: The Series

I have never read Sandman. But I was maybe going to watch the show in the near future, and then all....this happened and it delayed my desire to watch it.

It's really, really tough with adaptations like these because they aren't the singular work of the disgraced creator. Just goes to show the incredible amount of damage one person can do with their actions.
100%. Everyone who touches the work leaves their influence. And in TV that's so many unheralded fingerprints. It's also an adaptation that started before any of this was known, so there isn't even any side eying to be had (looking at you Harry Potter show).

First season was special. Never imagined an adaptation of Sandman that would actually invoke something in me outside of blinding rage. Also moved by the general fandom's reaction to learning Gaiman is a monster.

I’m going to be honest, I’ve never watched Sandman! Maybe I should now!

Better late than never, I guess. Sucks because of the controversy!

Seems like this has no buzz at all. It's been out a couple of days, and I'm not hearing anyone talking about the show. (I haven't even watched it myself yet, to be fair) I guess the Gaiman controversy killed it.

I don't even think they tried promoting it.
This. Netflix sent the show out to die. Even before the Gaiman controversy, there were already reports they weren't planning on renewing the show.

Just finished S2 pt.1 and it is so forking good. This is why we cant have nice things.

Season 1 exhausted all of The Sandman that I had read, so season 2 will tread new ground. I’ve been torn on whether to read the books before the show or not.

I will say that Sandman season 1 was one of those rare instances where the show was so well done that I thought it was superior to the books.

So, so sad that it's hard to bring myself to watch this now. Absolutely no one involved in the shows fault and I loved the first season.

I was planning on watching it as soon as it came out but haven't been able to muster it.

It’s a shame. It’s a good series and many talented people worked on it but that’s what happens when a creep ruins everything. It has a very sudden ending.

Ah well. That’s the end I guess

What do you mean? It's a staggered release, five more episodes come out on the 24th, and the finale comes out on the 31st.

As for the show itself, it's okay. The first three episodes are kind of rough, and I don't think they did justice to A Midsummer Night's Dream. There's also the weird subplot of Morpheus impersonating a black man, though people didn't seem to mind when Doctor Manhattan did it in Watchmen.

At least they stopped doing that awful stretching of the aspect ratio from last season. I have no idea why they thought that was a good idea.

Oh I didn’t realise. That’s good news!

Yeah Gaimans a big pile of poo but damn this show is sooo good. I’ll be sad to see it end but also glad that Gaiman won’t profit off it anymore.

So.

I have a lot of feelings about this entire affair. I don't think it would be hard for any of you to see that I've been a fan of The Sandman for the longest time, especially if you consider that my username is literally taken from a very important Character in the Sandman back in the good old year of 2002. I even treasured the little interactions I had with the author and the few Likes on my twitter account (RIPiss twitter, you can't die fast enough for me)

When this show was first announced I was ecstatic and had huge hopes for it. The audiobooks had been a Delight, with magnificent casting and an ethereal ambiance. Then when they showed the whole cast for the first season and saw Patton Oswalt as Matthew I knew the whole thing was in good hands.

The first season was good. I enjoyed myself watching it and it filled my heart with that nostalgia from when I was a kid, learning the English language reading this book with an English to Spanish Dictionary by my side. Sandman was finally on TV and I was watching it 20+ years after reading it for the first time. Something I couldn't think possible. Something all of us couldn't think possible.

... And then the allegations came out. The feeling of betrayal I felt was tremendous and yet it dwarfed next to the monstrous crimes he committed on people that loved him.

The show was already produced by the time the articles were released and over all it makes sense to be only 2 seasons since a whole 3rd season will only tell tangential stories to Dream. Netflix doing something more tight by showing Dream's story from capture to Wake is adequate.

Regardless. It is done. I'm done. Maybe 2 years ago I would've been outraged by what Netflix did, but I'm not now. I'm ok with this. This is my wake.

Started watching this and it’s so good. Sometimes the way they weave different stories in through flashbacks isn’t super smooth but the content itself is good so it’s thoroughly enjoyable. Especially enjoying seeing more of the other Endless who are all great characters.

The whole thing is honestly a little tainted especially since I was such a huge fan of Gaiman and his writing. But I have to say it’s absolutely commendable what a good job this cast and crew has done in keeping you engaged with the material and out of the shadow of it’s creator. Really looking forward to seeing how they conclude the series. It’s going to be very bittersweet.

Jenna Coleman as Johanna Constantine continues to be one of the best casting choices on this show. I need more of her on my screen.

Destruction is also kinda hot :o.
