Scarface

Scarface (1932) is a great movie, Paul Muni and Howard Hawks rock

P.S. I'm assuming your not an ignorant film watcher, and you have seen the original, that is 100x better than the hammy remake... Please don't prove me wrong :(

You're awesome. The 1932 movie is far superior to that pointless crap De Palma did. I didn't think anyone alive cared for the real Scarface. You beat me to it. Not only do you recognize that the original is a great film, but you also rcognize that the remake was stupid. You rule! Let's be friends.

I hated Scarface. It was so friggin' boring. I waited 14 hours of sitting through crap just to hear him say "Say hello to my little friend." I always liked that line and I wanted to see the movie. What a waste. So overrated!!! for those who loved it all I can say is more power to you. I just don't see the appeal of it.

And now I wait to be flamed.

The best movie ever made needs a thread? By golly your right. Where be our Godfather and Casablanca threads?

Scarface the best movie ever made?! Yeah right. It is a good hammy cheesy ganster flick that oozes fake '80s. I think DePalma was far more successful with the much better and underrated Untouchables he made a few years later with the superior cast. This had going for it mostly Al Pacino in a riveting if ketchy performance as Tony Montana in one that was both immensley entertaining and silly at once (unfortunately he would play more Tony and less Michael from this point on).

A good piece of '80s pop culture that stands up today in a cheesy sorta' way. But the best picture ever? C'mon now, just because a bunch of rappers have posters of it in their "cribs" because they were "inspired" by it does not make it great. I mean Pacino was doing better work the previous decade with the iconic Godfather, Godfather Part II and Dog Day Afternoon now.

And The Punisher was any better?

Hawks version is better.

I love this movie....I really like the short version too..LOL... never seen the 1930's one probably too outdated for me....This movie is one of my Favorite's
Best movie ever made maybe dabetable......I should make a thread for the movie "Heat" and declaret that the greatest made

Overrated but the movie is loved by drug using teens around the world.

In my opinion yes the Punisher is 10 times more entertaining that Scarface. But that is for me.
I'm not going to flame anyone for liking or disliking a movie that I like or dislike. I just don't understand the fascination for Scarface. At least I have seen the movie to form my opinion.

I think the movie is like Howard The Duck...great to watch when nothing and I mean nothing is on:o

I love how many people love me for being an elitist film-jack ass :D It pisses me off since I really have been yearning for a DVD copy of Scarface (1933) since "I am a fugitive from a chain gang" (1933) relit my love for Muni, I saw it once a while ago, but I'd need to buy the ****in deluxe edition of Scarface (1983) errr!!! I'm just going to succumb and buy a frickin bootleg off ebay. But the 1983 version is simply this... Take the original movie, insert cubans and drugs, take whole scenes and shots, and just STRETCH IT OUT TO 3 HOURS and include Pacino hammy yet entertaining acting. That's really it, the movie is damn entertaining, but too long, because of Pacino and the ridiculousness of the 80s.

Look what mTV has done today's children, they can't even pay attention to a hour and thirty minute movie unless it has flashy lights and ****/ass... Scarface is a very violent film, hell the entire movie is just SHOOTINGS! So much so that it caused for immediate censorship of all movies here-after, for a good 20 years I believe. The movie's also mentioned in the Aviator since Hugh's production company made it.

Scareface is a cult film, Tony Montoya is basically the the most ruthless character on film.

People used to say the film was one of the greats, but a lot of film buffs have dismissed it since a lot of guys in the rap world have taken a liking to it. Guilty by association I suppose.

I swear this is becoming so cliche and it's really a dumbass argument against the film. The reason Scarface has stood the test of time (20+ years) certainly isn't because of rappers or some stupid TV show lol.

True. But it became a huge hit again which it was not nearly as big with the mainstream until it started appearing everywhere in the hiphop culture and now teens have posters everywhere of it claiming it is the best picture evre made and a better movie than the Godfather, etc. etc.

You cannot deny that that had something to do with it. It is a very hammy, silly '80s movie that while certainly very enteretaining is nothing special and does not deserve all the hype it gets nor the tile "best movie ever."

Rappers haven;t kept it popular, the violence and swearing along with the larger than life central character have but what rappers have done is completely contorted the films point for the younger fan

It hasn't been released on DVD in the States ? It was released here in Belgium six months ago, so I suppose it's bound to get an American release sometime soon.
The Hawks Scarface is infinitely superior to the DePalma remake.

That makes sense, because wasn't the whole point of the movie suppose to be what would happen if you get into that kind of life and it's consequences? Now if you ask a rapper, or someone younger, what the point of the movie is they'll say "it's about how you can come from nothing and have it all", sure that's what happens but it shouldn't be that way.

I think second to LOTR, Scarface is the most overrated movie of all time. Scarface only gets its appeal from its violence and Pacino's portrayal of a violent, foul-mouthed criminal. The fact that gangsta rap has taken such a sad obsession with the film speaks volumes.

I finally saw the movie about two years ago. It was great, but still not a favorite of mine.

I didn't watch Scarface past the Nightclub scene. It was so boring :(
