Scariest Horror Movies You've Ever Seen/Favorite Horror Films?

I'm a huge Hammer Films fan so I just wanted to give a heads up about TCM Wed going into Thur this week. It starts with the Horror of Dracula and ends with Plague of the Zombies.

Even if you aren't a fan check out their version of The Mummy. Carpenter says that this is what inspired the unstoppable foe. Plus Christopher Lee coming out of the muddy waters is just iconic.

Also wanted to give a shout out to The Loved Ones. Great new horror flick.

I nearly forgot about Carpenter's The Thing and his Prince of Darkness, which maybe closer to the class of Halloween III, but nonetheless scared the crud out of me as a kid.

Cool, they're doing the Hammer marathon nights again? I loved that when they did it last year or the year before - the only Hammer movie I'd seen before then was Horror of Dracula, so it was a nice opportunity. While there aren't a lot of the 20 I saw that I loved, I liked most of them and am generally a fan of hte Hammer aesthetic. I love their version of The Mummy too.

I cant say I get really scared by movies but some good, creepy and suspenseful movies are, The Exorcist, the original Black Christmas, The Fourth Kind, Paranormal Activity and Signs.

I never saw Signs, and I didn't care much for The Fourth Kind (don't know why, just didn't). But the other movies you mentioned

Scariest movie i ever saw and really wont watch it til this day is The Exorcist.

Cool to hear. There should be more Hammer movies coming on TCM on the 27th.

The Dracula and Frankenstein sequals are actually really good. Well Dracula was great until they brought him into 70's Eng. Then it just gets lame.

As for 1 shots, Twins of Evil and The Devil Rides out are completely awesome. The Devils rides Out actually has a scene borrowed by Batman the Animated series and was pretty cool to see.

Hammer does a great job with Blu Rays too. Tons of extras. I didn't like Vampire Circus very much but all of the extras on the blu ray make it worth the buy.

I'm hoping more Hammer films find their way onto blu ray.

Me too. You can actually find a lot of them if you go to amazon.uk. They're region 2 though.

I'm going to try and convert my player to all region. It seems do-able. If I can't do it. I'll just get an all region player with wifi.

Curse of Frankenstein
Dracula Prince of Darkness
The Mummy's Shroud
The Devils Rides Out
The Reptile
Plague of the Zombies
The Skull
and a few more are out on Blu Ray. I think I remember hearing that the Horror of Dracula was set to be released and then Hammer found more footage to add to the DVD.

I'm hoping Curse of the Werewolf and The Mummy get blu rayed soon.

Also want to give a mention to these dudes doing great custom Hammer figures... http://www.distinctivedummies.com/

I purchased the Universal horror collection from the UK , it's region free. I've thought about getting an all region player though.

Those figures do look really good.

That dudes work really is insane. I have his Curse of Frankenstein, Baron Frankenstein and I'm waiting on The Mummy and The Reptile. You can see more of his work if you google it. My one gripe with him is that he doesn't showcase his work enough on his own site. He does the old retro glow in the dark heads too.

Pet Semetary. Even the happy Parts are filmed in such an unsettling way, and especially now that I have kids, the truck scene and funeral are just awful to watch. It's a well made film and really manages to get to me. Plus I love Fred Gwyne and I hate to see what happens to Judd, even though what happened kind of is his fault. It's a great film and one of the best King adaptions.

that film totally screwed me up, i've had nightmares of the sister ever since i watched it.

After watching so many horror movies I've almost become desensitized that nothing really scares me sure I might flinch a bit at the torture porn of Hostel and SAW because those events are more shocking than scary.

But as a kid I do remember covering my eyes during The Howling and as a 10 year old Aliens was also creepy that I covered my eyes when Ripley is dreaming of an alien bursting through her and then at the end when poor Bishop gets snapped like a twig.

Ah...that scalpel gently caressing Judd's Achilles tendon...

I'm not much into horror movies anymore, but some of my fav/scariest I've seen:

Hellraiser
Halloween(1-2)
Friday 13th(1-4)
Nightmare on Elm Street(1-3)
The Blob(original)

I'm not sure which Saw it was, but a couple of women were doing brain surgery on some old guy. Watched the whole thing without flinching. It looked pretty cool.
Ah yes that was in Saw III, I thought that was cool too especially the hard work the SFX guys did in making believe the woman was actually drilling Jigsaw's head.

I remember the audience squeeming on that one.

I love all the movies in your list. And I gotta say, despite my general dislike of movie remakes, the ramake of The Blob was pretty good too.

We might have to fight over Elm Street 2 and the Elm Street sequals in general. It started the craze of adding goofy humor to every horror movie.

Has anyone seen The Loved Ones yet? Awesome Aussie flick and one of the better horror movies I've seen lately.

Just got Dracula: Price of Darkness, Curse of Frankenstein and a Region free player. The Hammer Blu Rays are insane. Loads upon loads of extras and the transfers look awesome. You can see a lot of the ReAnimator was taken from the old Hammer Frankensteins.

Also wanted to mention that I saw the Halloween re release. Great look and feel on the big screen but no one knows about this so the theater was empty. Such a shame.

I have to put Cabin in the Woods up pretty high on my list.
