Scream 4!!!!! - Part 4

Yeah, by next weekend, Scream 4 will probably be gone from theaters. But that's what you get for releasing a movie so close to summer and just a week from Easter.

October. December. Those are months that they should have released this.

December would have been a terrible month as it would be before Christmas (where Scream 1 floundered at in 1996, but regained itself on strong WOM that S4 apparently does not have) and have to compete with family films and Oscar bait. February would have been a good month. Friday the 13th pulled in big numbers in 2009 (around $45 million?) in that opening as a brand name in the middle of dead winter months. Last year The Wolfman remake made $30 million opening weekend and would have done better if it had good reviews and WOM. Bob Weinstein obviously thought he could duplicate Scream 1's success before Christmas....but it had stronger WOM and no competition going into January and the other dead winter months. By the time Easter passed, Scream 4 is facing off against summer fare like Fast Five and Thor going into May.

I'm not saying it would have been a hit in February, but its opening would have cracked $20 million I bet (maybe even $25 million) and it would have a longer stay in theaters with nothing opening for its target audience until the March bombs that were Red Riding Hood and Sucker Punch.

Oh well.

Got Scream and Scream 2 on Blu Ray for my birthday. I'll watch them when I'm feeling them. Then I can't wait to get the fourth. Then I'll get the third from netflix and pull a marathon.

I have yet to pick up the Scream films on Blu-Ray because I already own them on DVD. I'll probably do it at some point, but I don't usually rebuy movies on blu-ray if I already own them on DVD.

It was too late for a sequel and I believe that it's having terrible legs because most people don't care for it.
Word around most boards I frequent people DO care for it. And some of these are boards for movies in general not just Scream fans, so it's definitely not that. For some reason it's doing awful sales wise here, but international it's at 68 million now.

^^ Yup. I think plenty of people care for it, it just came out in the wrong month, if you ask me.

I think some people are just waiting for DVD. Insidious was doing good and maybe that took some of the audience. Some people don't go out and see two horror movies in a row.Idk.

It depends on the quality for me. The Scream blu's do look better than the dvd but it's not the best video transfer. The sound however is fantastic. So it was worth it for me.

^^ Yeah, like I said, I'll probably pick them up at some point. I've only picked up a few films on BLu-ray that i already own on DVD. Maybe I'll do the same with these.

I just don't understand this point though. So if I like a movie and really want to catch it in theaters, I won't because it's being released in April and I hate April?

If ppl want to see a movie, they'll see it regardless of the month it comes out in. Furthermore, if it's an already established series, like Scream is, there's no reason anybody wouldn't see it, wether it came out in April or December.

Rio was the main factor. This is my take on it. I know ppl say those are 2 completely different target audiences and all, but how different are they? None of those kids would be able to see Scream 4 anyway, so by default it wasn't going to get their money. But you can't tell me some of those parents wouldn't have liked to have seen Scream 4. The majority of the ppl who are fans of Scream are young adults (20's) to older adults (30-40). Not to mention Rio was in 3D. Double trouble. Rio made around 40 million opening weekend. Had it never opened on that date, you can't tell me that 40 million wouldn't have gone - at the very least, partially - to Scream 4 or any other movie opening that weekend.

Now the hype for Scream has died down so all those ppl who haven't seen it yet have lost interest and will wait for dvd/blu ray.

It's spring. Horrors movie aren't as popular in spring because people want more warm, cheery entertainment. Horror works better during either around Halloween or the dreary winter months after the big Christmas and Oscar films have been released. People are just more sour in the darker nights and cold and up for that kind of thrill. Also, you're seeing more and more now that summer movies are creeping into spring. May has become the start of summer movie season (Thor's out next week!) and this week the pseudo-summer movie Fast Five opened. Scream 4 is just not what audiences want right now.

Anyway, the reason I got Scream (the only one I own right now) on Bluray is because the DVDs, as I understand it, are not anamorphic and therefore would not play well on a widescreen TV. That's the only reason to prefer the bluray for these films, I suspect.

See, now tthis is antoher point I was going to make. It wasn't just the wrong month, it was what it was going p against. Trust me, on my second viewing of the movies, there were so many kids and parents waiting in a long line for Rio.

Scream 4 is already out of my theater :( I was hoping to see it again. The Blu-ray is a day one purchase for me.

Yeah, it only has one showtime left at my theater. 10 pm. Jesus, that's late too.

It'll probably do incredibly well on it's DVD sales.

I bought the trilogy on blu-ray today. I had a brief look at the quality on each one and they look fantastic.

I never bought them on DVD cause I always ended up buying something else or not finding them in stores and so I quit trying,When I heard about Scream4 coming out I tried again and only saw Scream 1&2 But in standard editions(I'm a huge movie buff&sucker for extended/special/director's/unrated&collector's editions):(

I might go to Best Buy tomorrow and will look for them again,IF I can't find them then I'll just go for the Blu-Rays of the trilogy!!

I'll get the Blu-rays of 2 and 3 sometime soon, my Best Buy has a bunch of copies of 1-3 in stock, now.

I'm sure 4 will be huge on DVD and Blu-ray, and will make a ton of money there. I bet a combination of strong DVD/Blu-ray sales, good word of mouth and the combined international grosses will ensure at least a Scream 5.

I've seen this movie like 3 times...I was walking around the theater yesterday and caught the opening again and I still love it.. :p

I went on a Monday morning. The theater was completely empty. That just added an extra layer of creppiness for me. I was scared Ghostface was going to come from behind and slit my throat.

^^ The last time I experianced anything close to an empty theater was Punisher: War Zone.
