Scream 5 in Development

The killer’s “it’s an honor” line makes me think they’ll lean heavily into parodying the “20-year-later-legacy sequel” thing (which is basically what this is). I guess that’s one of the great things about this franchise; if it’s well-written you can always find ways to make this feel fresh and new because Hollywood will keep finding ways to revive old franchises and Scream can poke fun at that (while following these patterns at the same time lol).

Nice to see them back and I’ll definitely see this opening weekend but it’s more for the fun of seeing a new Scream. That trailer was really mediocre and felt like nothing new. “Just another Scream”.

The super weirdo Manson girl from OUATIH is in this movie so either she’s a part of it or she’s there to pull off the ruse lol. If I was them I’d kill Gale instead of Dewey.

Hopefully the next trailer in December shows more about the plot.

I also feel like we’re getting a child of the OG Ghostface. A bit lazy. But we’ll see. I didn’t like Ready or Not. The humour didn’t land with me. But those directors have the perfect style for a Scream movie. It definitely looked like a Craven Scream but nothing about it grabbed me.

I love the quality of the killer’s voice this time around. I mean, obviously in-universe, it’s a voice changer, but it sounds aged in the same way that Michael Myers is a sixty-something now.

Yep. Roger L. Jackson has always done the Ghostface voice. He's very old now, so naturally, his voice sounds older and more gruff. I actually love the progression of Ghostface's voice throughout the series. It sounds a little different and gets a little deeper in each film.

Based on what’s said in the trailer and now this, I’m guessing Gallner is a relative of Stu.

Agreed. It sounds like a natural progression. Met Roger Jackson about 7 years ago! He's so proud of that role, as he should be.

So pleased from what I seen from the trailer. The sequels got sillier and more comedic as they went on (particularly with the opening kills) this looks back to spirit of the original. Ghostface is f****** scary again!

I hope the 'voice' does some of those early "speak... slowly... calmly" and then he just bursts into something like "IF YOU OPEN THE DOOR I'M GONNA GUT YOU LIKE A FISH!".
That first conversation with Drew Barrymore in the original is perfect.

It looks vague in terms of plot but fun and scary.

The new directors have captured Wes Craven's essence so far, in terms of camerawork and atmosphere.

I guess I should finally get around to watching Scream 4 before seeing this, even though I can barely remember what happened in 2 or 3.

LOL, he's only 63.

Lot older than 37 when he started this, no?

Looks ok. Too many forgettable interchangeable young faces. It’s a shame they couldn’t get someone more well known to be the opening kill but I guess the shock value of that wore off after the first one.

Really the store is secondary to the tension and kills. As long as it’s not some convoluted reason to connect to the other movies, then it shouldn’t be too bad.

Is it just me or are Ghostface’s arm dangles a lot long and have more character than ever before? I love it.

Sure but it's not like he's 90 years old and knocking on death's door either.

I for one would love to cut back to Ghostface being revealed as

Neve stole the Scream Queen title from JLC… and now almost 25 years later, no one has come close to stealing it from her.

Why would a child of Billy or Stu be targeting people related to Billy or Stu?

Curse of Thorn?
Scream 4 Killer had a weird family motivation + the “I wanna be famous!”. Just saying, it’s usually convoluted or like ummmm okay? with these sequels. The only one that felt like it was built into the storytelling from the beginning in a logical and cohesive way was the 96’ movie. Every other sequel feels like a random last minute rewrite just to shock the audience. I’d love for this movie to return to the original in that sense. Maybe they will. But after 3 sequels that were rather eye rolling (some of 2 and 4 were fun though) I’m not expecting anything great here. This is a franchise that has to prove itself again as far as I’m concerned.

I’m trying to think of any characters - nonvillain - from a current horror franchise post-Scream that would elicit extreme excitement ala Sidney or Laurie Strode 20+ years later?

Honestly… for me it would only be what’s her name from It Follows.
