Scream 5 in Development

It’s also time for a returning/surviving character to be one of the killers in a sequel.

Digital VOD release date is March 1. Bluray and UHD release date is April 5.

I thought Kirby could have been the killer in this movie. Had potential.

I still facepalm about them killing Kirby and in such a mundane way. A type of wound that any final girl could survive, and at the hands of her incel crush.

:argh:

Well, there's some good news for you, then...

Another solid entry, third best in the series for me.

Was totally surprised by the Dead Meat cameo. So happy for James and Chelsea.

[Damn, apparently I have a lot of thoughts about this movie. This has to be my longest post here ever :funny::O.]

Well, I didn’t enjoy this as much as I thought I would. Felt undercooked. One of the biggest issues was that a lot of the characters just weren’t given enough time. Since the focus was on the two sisters mainly, I feel like the other new characters got like two scenes each before Ghostface got to them. The killers were also a little easy to predict, not because of their motivations but because of the actors that they got for them. The meta commentary also felt half-baked this time. Another issue for me was that Melissa Berrara’s acting was just… not good. It was especially bad in the hospital scene where she’s telling her sister why she left. Everyone else was acting circles around her. As for the rest of the new cast, I thought Jenna Ortega was great and should’ve been the lead and the twins were charming in their brief screen time but the rest of the cast didn’t leave much of an impression. Kyle Gallner and Dylan Minnette were practically cameos.

Speaking of Dylan Minnette, his death was brutal. After his mother died, I didn’t think he would die too. I thought he would just open the door after the fakeouts (which were done well and kinda funny) and find her body. The knife visibly moving through his throat was just so . That said, I didn’t like the logistics of some of these scenes. Like the backup taking forever to arrive and Judy getting killed in broad daylight and no one hearing her. The hospital scene also bugged me because that entire floor was completely abandoned. I know the sheriff said something about a private floor but still. Literally one guard? And the whole situation with Dewey not thinking to take the mask off when the killer was incapacitated and instead going back alone to shoot the killer just… it felt like a slightly convoluted way of making things happen. I just think the scene didn’t flow naturally.

I also didn’t care for Sam being the daughter of Billy. It’s an interesting idea but I don’t think it was done well and although it was a nice surprise seeing Skeet Ulrich again, the visions were very sparsely used and ultimately pointless. I did like the way they handled Dewey and Gale. Sidney was a total badass and I loved how over she was with all this **** but I do wish she had a more meaningful role. She just showed up wanting to kill the new Ghostface. Still, whenever any of the trio was on screen it was great.

As for the new killers, like I said they were easy to predict just because the actors playing them had that vibe to them. And their motivations were kinda flimsy. With the past killers, there’s always a movie related motivation that’s kinda meta and then another personal reason with at least one of the killers that pushes them off the edge. Anger, abandonment, revenge, jealousy, stuff like that. This time they just wanted to give moviemakers a new plot. There’s no personal connection to any of the victims which kinda made it feel hollow. They wanted to kill so they sought out the sisters and got the original trio back to Woodsboro. And also, after the reveal when they’re all jokey jokey and telling everyone what their plan was, that felt very been there, done that this time. I know that’s sort of the pattern for these movies but Ghostface was really threatening throughout the movie and I wish they had continued being a little creepy at least.

So yeah. A little bummed that I didn’t enjoy this as much I wanted to. Really enjoyed Ready or Not and had high hopes for this but even though I didn’t dislike it, I also didn’t love it. I might have to see this again but as of now, I think I enjoyed 4 more than this.

Okay. I’ve got it. I figured out the way to bring Matthew Lillard back.

Scream 6: The Legend of Stu’s Gold

Stu’s long lost twin brother Drew Macher returns to Woodsboro after spending the past 20 years in an asylum due to his obsession with the woman who killed his brother… Sidney Prescott. He stalked her for years but has never actually killed anyone. But maybe that is about to change.

This is generally how I felt. Undercooked is a good way of putting it.

I thought this was fine for a slasher. Especially compared to Halloween Kills and that Netflix Texas Chainsaw Massacre... :whatever:

However I don't want to give the movie credit for pointing out dumb stuff in other horror movies, and then they're also doing it anyway.

It also didn't really help that they mentioned my biggest issue with the Scream franchise, "Ghostface" is kind of lame because it's always someone else; a copycat killer. When they said he or she isn't a Jason or Michael Myers, I was just thinking yup that's exactly why I'm not a big Scream fan. (Even though I like the movies)

Rewatching this again and the “passing the torch” scene is so dumb :funny:.
Like she’s kicked, she stumbled and her hand accidentally turned the stove on. And then she got shot and thrown into the flames which somehow immediately engulfed her whole upper body. Was she drenched in alcohol or something? I know she got hit in the face with hand sanitiser but like… ok…

This is very, very nitpicky, I know. But you know how when you don’t like something, so every little thing about it bothers you…

Funny cause that’s what I love most about the series. That it’s someone new every time which keeps it fresh. An Agatha Christie slasher. Murder mystery. I think that’s why it’s aged better than most slasher franchises like Friday the 13th IMO. It makes sense to keep going unlike those lol

Still made 80M at the box office. Huge step up from the 38M of Scream 4 on half the budget and during Covid times. Glad it got a chance at a theatrical release. Keeps the franchise special.

This movie suffers from the Terminator Dark Fate problem in that the legacy characters are not very well integrated into the story, because it is really about a new set of characters, but those new characters are not getting fleshed out enough because we have to service the legacy characters and give them screen time, so everyone is basically competing for space in the film instead of working together seamlessly.

The gore was great, the stabbing deaths were brutal and violent as they should be. The killer's motivations were weak, and Billy Loomis's daughter seeing visions of him everywhere was a bit much (surely they could've conveyed how she felt about his legacy in a better and less corny way than making her Norman Bates?).

Honestly, if they make a sequel to this, its time to kill off Sydney and give her that one last personal battle. Because this wasn't it.

Finally got to see this tonight. Loved it thought it was great. I went almost unspoiled but yesterday one of the killers was ruined for me in a random YouTube thumbnail. But the other killer I didn’t know and it definitely caught me off guard. But this one is definitely tied for me with Scream 4 as my second favorite. Both in that spot.

Was not a fan at all though of the main character Sam. The performance to me was very just boring and bland. Not good. She basically had resting ***** face the entire film, came across as extremely annoying to me.

The best and most enjoyable part of this movie was seeing Mikey Madison burn to death a second time. Hopefully she now becomes the Sean Bean for a new age of cinema. Every role she gets offered should end with her character getting set on fire. :funny:

After first watch I had this tied with Scream 4 as my second favorite. I do need to rewatch though because I’m thinking I might have Scream 2 above this one with Scream 2 being my number three. Not entirely sure yet where I have this one.

Just watched it on Paramount+ and I enjoyed it. Had some good callbacks to the original and I actually liked the new cast. Pretty solid entry. Don’t know where else they can take this franchise but whatever they got planned they just have to bring back Stu
