I think the problem with Scream 4 is the "been there, done that" aspect of it. Sure, the script was jokey about the reboot aspect, but Wes Craven was directing so the style was exactly like the previous 3, probably to the film's detriment. It needed to feel fresh, and it didn't.
I love Wes Craven. But what was new and refreshing about Scream in the 90s, the fourth never brought anything different to the table in terms of style for the 21st century. With the Ready or Not team, this might actually feel like a new reinvention while staying true to the essence of the original just as Scream did in the 90s while also staying true to its 1980s spirit.
