Scream 5 in Development

I disagree. The only one that came off as over the top and silly was Roman and the whole I am your secret illegitimate brother/I made your boyfriend turn psycho killer/our mom was a Hollywood floozy who had me through a gang bang. It was like a plot line out of one of those cheesy day time soap operas.

It also stretched credibility that Roman did it all solo. At least all the other killers had partners.
Yeah I’m sick of when they try to shoehorn a villain as being the brains behind scenes in the earlier movies the whole time. They did that with Blofeld on Spectrum and the Emperor in the last Star Wars

I could take Roman doing this all by himself over Blofeld being behind every villain in Craig’s Bond films and the Emperor having clones of Snoke. At least Roman was a self-contained villain that did not have any impact on the previous films (at least if you ignore that he told Billy Loomis to kill Sidney’s mom).

I liked all these except 3 quite a bit. That said, cannot say I am overtly excited for a new one. I thought 4 was a good place to be done.

4 was fine. Wasn’t a fan of 2 and 3 (although I was cool with a good chunk from #2, but hated the third act). I’m only reaaally a fan of the first movie. As over the top and obnoxious as it is, in true Wes Craven fashion, it’s still tons of fun.

Not really clamouring for another Scream. But I’ll go see it if it’s marketed as the finale. Otherwise I’ll catch it on streaming 6 months to a year later.

I rewatched Scream 4 recently and it reminded me that despite how much influence other movies have taken from this franchise, these are still really fun to watch and a notch above others like them. I think mainly because Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson make a good team and they really make the movies charming and fun. One of the biggest issues with 4 was probably that the ending at the hospital really makes no sense. Dewey was also completely incompetent and his conflict with Gale felt forced and made him look stupid. But Sidney and Gale are still great characters and the new ones were good too especially Kirby and Charlie. I haven’t seen any of the directors’ other movies but Ready or Not was fun. I’m hopeful they’ll do a good job but Craven’s direction and Williamson’s writing will really be missed.

I think the problem with Scream 4 is the "been there, done that" aspect of it. Sure, the script was jokey about the reboot aspect, but Wes Craven was directing so the style was exactly like the previous 3, probably to the film's detriment. It needed to feel fresh, and it didn't.

I love Wes Craven. But what was new and refreshing about Scream in the 90s, the fourth never brought anything different to the table in terms of style for the 21st century. With the Ready or Not team, this might actually feel like a new reinvention while staying true to the essence of the original just as Scream did in the 90s while also staying true to its 1980s spirit.

Still can’t believe Wes re-filmed/edited out the bloody mask intro... ugh.

Scream 3 had the bloody mask at the end of the intro scene.

All this talk of Scream 2 just reminds me how shocked I was to read that Jerry O’Connell and Sidney’s BFF were originally intended to be the killers until the script leaked and they changed it to Mickey and Mrs. Loomis.

Oh wow, I never heard about this. Interesting. Makes me think of how the end of Batman Begins got leaked a year before the release and it made me wonder at the time if they were going to change it up so that Ducard wasn't Ra's after all, but they didn't.

Definitely seems like Neve is a bit reluctant understandably, but I do think she will end up signing on.

Not as much as she should sadly. She really is talented. Along with the writing, she made Sidney Prescott into my favorite horror movie character.

But cool to see new casting moving forward. Which means new suspects.

I'm still not sure how I feel about this movie just yet. I'm a complete fanboy of the Scream franchise (outside of Scream: Resurrection which ruined a surprisingly good TV series) but it just feels weird for it to be happening without Wes Craven. I'll still give it a chance, especially after how good Scream 4 turned out (easily the best sequel imo) but I'm just a bit cautious.

Whatever happens, I just hope there's less studio meddling this time around. I remember Kevin Williamson and the Weinsteins had a falling out during the last movie and iirc the ending was completely changed as was the supposed lead-in to a wildly different Scream 5. Unless I'm misremembering something I read back then, which could be since it's been 9 years already (how?) I think the original idea was for Jill to actually survive and 5 would have been kind of an 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' premise with a new killer coming after her.

This is probably my most anticipated horror release (with Halloween Kills). I'm interested in how they'll incorporate Sidney, Gail and Dewey while making the film interesting and feel like it has actual stakes. After having them survive for four films now, it's starting to feel tiresome. Hoping they get a good send off and pass the torch onto a strong, new generation.

It'll also be interesting how this'll most likely focus more on reboots. Wonder how they'll make it work with respect to the 4ths message (don't **** with the original).

So beyond excited for this. Good directors, the cast is shaping up nicely. I'm confident Neve will sign on. I think they will wait last to announce her. Maybe they can get Samara Weaving for the opening. Still can't believe we are getting another one.

I feel like Samara could be on her way to becoming the next horror icon or fan favorite. She's a fantastic actress and I would have loved to have seen her in this.

Sad about Samara tbh. Can we get Jessica Rothe then? Pretty please....

Has Neve Campbell been confirmed as returning?

My only issue with Sidney coming back is at this point I can’t by that she’d ever return to Woodsboro.
