SDCC 2007- DC Comics Edition.

But a whole lot less funny.

SDCC '07: DC BIG GUNS PANEL

Interesting enough. If "Alpha Lantern" is about Hal Jordan I will murder them all.

Wonder Woman, best strategist, best warrior? What is she, Batman now? I do appreciate Simone's enthusiasm.

Wonder Woman: Best Warrior is something i can accept

Wonder Woman: Best Strategist?

Ahem...Mr. Terrific, Batman, Deathstroke, and ****loard of other people would like a word with Ms. Simone.

Im not trying to be a wise guy, or anything...i just dont get why in this situation, the families of Superman's creators are "greedy bastards", yet the huge business conglomerate is somehow justified in keeping the lion's share of profits.

IIRC, Supes creators finally got some cash, but it didnt even come out to 5% of what Superman had made at that point in time.

That kinda sucks.

I don't think that anybody here will dispute that Siegel and Schuster got ripped off.

But the fact that their greedy families are just simply attempting to cash in on their work that they took no part of, are hindering the quality of the Superman mythos in the process, and if given the oppourtunity would do the same to Superman is what is annoying.

Exactly. Why should Conner Kent or Superboy-Prime even be an aspect of this suit whatsoever? Siegel and Schuster have had no part, none whatsoever, in their creation. These people who aren't even the original creators are suing for rights for characters that the original creators never even created? It just makes the suers look like greedy mooks who want far more than they were ever entitled to.

What pisses me off is that they spoke little on what we can expect from Superman. They have been doing that more and more as of lately is all of this because of the law suit or something?

BWAAAA, HAHAhAahahahah!! :woot:

I was thinking the same thing,

Wonderwoman should go beat slade into poor health,... with one arm tied behind her back,.. and a long skirt pulled over her head.

I'm so tired of a somewhat super taking down definite supers with less prep time than batman.

That's why I have never been able to stand Simone. She just seems TOO woman-oriented.

I mean, equality is awesome, but, when she says something like she's wants to protect every woman in the DCU from death. ...why? Just because they're women? What about who they are? What about what they represent? What about what they are inside and as characters? It just seems sexist, and it irks me, frankly.

Now, I may just be kind of forgetful about some things, but exactly WHERE has Wonder Woman shown vast amounts of graceful strategy that just goes about trumping others?

Can't really stand Didio.Using deaths to hook readers is completely lame.Oh yea,and it's called Final Crisis for a reason.:whatever:

Thank god for Joe Q.

I applaud this post. Sexism does go both ways people. Simone on WW might've been a dream for many, but it just reeks of "Simone is a female comic book writer, so she should write comics biggest female character!" Lets see if her run lives up to Perez and Rucka, who happen to be men. I hope...

I don't expect it to. Simone does not have nearly the plot coherence that those two have. Which isn't a diss, not really, since the majority of writers don't either. But it seems to be a problem for her specifically. Not always, but often.

I expect it to be about Heinberg quality (which, incidentally, I liked), but, y'know, on-time. Of course she has an incredibly unfair advantage here 'cause whoever tackles this book after recent months could write pure abhorrent ass on grass and it would still come out two or three steps on top of the current run.

Heinberg's run could've been epic.:csad:

****ing Grey's Anatomy.:cmad:

I think they are not allowed to use the word Superboy. The rights to that in combination with the concept of Superman when he was a boy or a young Clark Kent in a Supeman costume was Siegel and Schuster's creation.

That's bass-ackwards. Is the original creator of Donna Troy given royalties for Cassandra Sandsmark? Is the original creator of Wally West given credit for Bart Allen? Conner Kent's origin is entirely different from the silver age Superboy, and so is Superboy-Prime's. I perfectly understand the..."logic"...they're using behind their litigation, I'm just saying it's stupid and greedy.

Well, I don't think it's particularly wrong to put a woman on a book with a female lead. I mean, I don't think anyone would disagree that women...know women pretty well.

That said, IMO, it's Simone's demeanor that's sexist. That's what I find wrong and bothersome. Y'know, I love tons of female characters. But not because they're female, but because they're interesting and quirky and in general appealing characters to me. I don't like Wonder Woman that much. Not because she's a woman, but simply because I've never found her character to be all that interesting.

With Simone, it seems like, if they're female, she loves them because they're obviously amazing just because they're female. And, interestingly enough, IMO, I think that actually hurts her writing. Reading Villains United and Secret Six, I couldn't help but love the way she wrote all of her male leads. Deadshot, Dr. Psycho, that creepy little clown guy, all great characters. Yet her women all seemed to be too tough to like. Too...guarded to really care about. Personally, I wish she'd just drop all of that crap and just focus on creating good characters. That's the standard I hold all writers to.

I think everybody's making a bit too much of the "best strategist" comment; every writer of a major character wants to make their character look really good in their own title. Simone is saying she will write Diana as a great warrior and strategist; using words like "best" is slightly hyperbolic, especially since, in a shared universe with multiple titles and authors, no one character is ever established definitively in most cases.
Simone on WW might've been a dream for many, but it just reeks of "Simone is a female comic book writer, so she should write comics biggest female character!
Well, she's already done a run on Superman's comic, so she's not just a "female superhero" writer (although her most famous book is Birds of Prey, where she writes numerous complex, strong female characters). I agree that some people would like to see a woman write Wonder Woman; but she has a track record, as noted, for strong, complex female characters, so you can see why many would want her to take on DC's biggest female icon.

I haven't seen anyone else mention this, but does anyone subscribe to the DC Comics podcasts?
You don't have to have iTunes, you can simply download from the website, but they've got recordinngs from their panels. There are Vertigo ones as well.\
It's great 'cos you get the vibe of the whole thing and I do find myself laughing every now and then, especially when Grant Morrison is involved.
