The Walking Dead Season 7, Episode 2 "The Well" Discussion Thread

Carol's hallucination at the beginning was wonky, but overall where she is now makes sense and her arc as a whole has been, bar none, the best in the show. This was a good episode. Some actual levity and hope for a frickin' change. Ezekiel is really compelling. Unfortunately it will inevitably all go to hell by the end of the season. Such is this show.

Hey I agree on the episode being great. Just for my personal preference and taste Carol is not working for me anymore since last season. That's all. But besides her, great episode. Love seeing the Kingdom and Shiva and Ezekiel.

I thought Shiva was extremely well done.

His guard, Jerry?, was hilarious. Here you have King Ezekiel putting up this act. And there's Jerry keeping it real.

"Holler. I'll keep in hollering range. Deuces!"

Morgan never went from surpressed victim to bad ass. It makes sense for Carol to question all the killing she's done considering who she once was, and how this world has turned her into something so merciless. Carol shut herself off emotionally. Look how she treated Sam. The sweet nurturing mother of Sophia threatening to leave a child tied up in the middle of nowhere to be eaten alive by zombies. She traumatized him, and inadvertantly caused his death.

She's tormented by what she has become and what she's done. Frankly I think she's far less annoying about her demons than Morgan and his all life is precious credo.

Agreed. Eastman described it perfectly in the episode with Morgan last season, about how one reason soldiers get PTSD is because it's not naturally in our nature to kill others. Once you're forced to, you have to live with it.

This is a world where yes, they have to kill in order to survive. They kill so they can be safe, so they can find a place where they can be safe. But when you get there, where it looks like you're finally safe, you have to live with the person you became to in order to get there.

For Carol, I think she's wondering if being safe is worth the price she paid to get there. If she even thinks she deserves it. Morgan too - his failure to protect his son nearly destroyed him, and he couldn't live with himself. What he learned from Eastman is what protects him now.

I know people prefer them to be a bunch of killing machines...but they're not entirely wrong when they take a step back and wonder how they mentally survive this world.

Either way just doesn't work for me when it comes to Carol. Has turned me off to her character. But hey that's me just saying.

Plus Sasha gaining Andrea's sniper skills.
And then there is Enid getting the Sophia role I hear. I just wonder if Carl is gonna be as much of a player on the show as he has become in the comics, what with him having a girl in every community practically.

To follow up one of the most intense episodes, it's only fitting that we get one of the most mellow episodes, if not the mellowest of the whole show to date. I thought it was going to be really slow but I quite enjoyed it. It's cool to see Shiva around, though she's just window dressing for now.

Same. I was iffy about the actor (I was worried he'd be too young as I was expecting more of a Keith David type), but he sold it for me during that scene with Carol at the end.

Can't wait until the Sanctuary next week!
Is it Keith David or David Keith? I always get their names reversed! They should do a buddy cop movie. Kidding.

I hated this episode! the writers are so bad tbh compared to other shows these days. They only know how to write good episodes when they have a big incident like the s7 premiere or like when a zombie herd attacked the farm in s2. The in between episodes are always poor. i wish they would improve but they always let me down :(

Some people really need to grasp this property comes from specific source material that the show is following. So many people think it's stupid he has a tiger, ...uh huh, just wait...
