The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 6 "Swear" Discussion Thread

I mean it's not everyone's favorite, but come on, nothing to the overall plot? Nothing? It seems like this was some story building going here, most likely Tara will need to break her promise about this place, Ricks group will need their help, their weapons, they have a reason to help fight Negan.

All of that could be done in 10 minutes. theres no need for a Tara centric show. wtf is this lol... i forgot these 2 were even part of the cast! what a complete waste of budget... No wonder they can't afford to have Rick lose a hand or to show Shiva more than 6 seconds 4 weeks ago.

2episodes left? So little has happened that actually seems quick. :(

I find it odd that so many people only want episodes that center on their favorite characters and don't care how other characters factor in at all. Comic books, other shows, etc. all do the same thing. Not every episode/issue can be full throttle with only the main characters.

no one is complaining about the lack of main characters... but these 2 aren't even sub characters. they are basically extras :lmao:

We've had one episode with Carol and Morgan... It's not about only wanting episodes about main characters... it's about getting more than 1 or 2 of them per season. Thats not really 'main character' material doing it like this. Are you telling me Tara deserves as much screen time as Carol? Cause she just got it and I'm pretty sure the ratings and reactions will show how badly that worked out.

Yeah, it feels that these one off episodes are just going in too many directions and not driving any kind of rising tension. The season is almost half over and there's hardly any increased drama in where the story's going. I get that this new settlement might become one that joins together with the others later one (a fishing community would be great to trade with), but it's not driving people to have to see what's coming next.

Well, nice to get an intro to the Oceanside community. I didn't think this was as bad as some made it out to be, given that it was Tara and Heath centered, but I do think that had there been no mention of the Saviors at all, it could have been considered filler. But here, we see the repercussions of the outpost attack and another group that the Saviors have terrorized.

Agreed. We are two episodes away from the mid season break and we have only just gotten to the point where each character responds to the events of last season's finale? That is sloppy pacing. Especially when three of these episodes could have been combined. Game of Thrones is a prime example of how to do an ensemble with multiple storylines. Each moment of screen time is meaningful. Here there is just so much filler.

This episode is basically Tara being brought up to speed (the death of Denise, Abe and Glenn, team Rick living under Negan's thumb, etc.) to what we as viewers already know and vice versa. I didn't expect her to return to the ASZ so soon b/c Heath said they were pretty far from the community and two weeks had already passed prior to Tara crossing paths with the Oceanside colony. She even beat Heath (assuming he's still alive) back there on foot, while seeming to be exempt from any danger, which was very convenient for the plot.

We'll see if this'll be the last we see of the Oceanside colony. And if they'll play a role in helping Rick oppose Negan.

It was nice seeing the underdeveloped Heath again even though it was brief. I guess they're leaving his fate ambiguous and open in case the actor wanted to return b/c he's occupied with the 24 spinoff/reboot.

I didn't mind the episode. I know a lot of people don't care for Tara or her sense of humor, but seeing her in survival mode (including her awkward interactions with that colony) was an interesting change of pace from Rick's core group if they were in the same situation. This episode was basically tying up the loose end with Tara while adding more with Heath's fate being unknown and if the Oceanside community will return or not?

Well, I fully look forward to Heath's full episode coming back from the shocking midseason finale. :o

I mean, I liked the episode. But, couldn't, you know, splice her story with another's in another episode? And why the hell was this an extra ten minutes? AMC, I know it's your golden child, but someone needs to speak out against the shows largesse.

And now I laugh at those who thought we would get to the war with Negan at the winter finale. They are going to stretch this out.

I'm still enjoying the show, but I am noticing some big problems with the show.

There are definitely always a number of episodes that are such filler that I can skip entirely. This was one of them. On my blu rays for each season there's a lot I can just skip over, and yeah this will be one of those episodes for sure.

And the length of this episode made no sense, did it really need to be like an extra 11 minutes? Reminds me of the hour and a half Morgan episode last season (or the season before? I can't remember). Just pointless seriously. Let's make the most boring episodes longer...um why?

Who would have been foolish enough to think that? We haven't even gotten things like Rick meeting Ezekiel or Carl ending up at the Sanctuary yet. No way would we go straight to war this fast, and certainly not by the MID-season finale.

This episode should have been edited into another episode... Geeezaz.

An entire episode focused on Tara.....WHY? She is the worst character on the show and not interesting enough to hold interest for an entire hour

Isn't it weird that Rick has factored into the storyline only twice so far this season? How is that possible?

As for the poster who said shows can't focus on the main characters all the time, um...why the hell not? What do you think shows with smaller casts do on a regular basis? Want to show the audience what Tara and Heath have been up to, fine. But devote a whole episode featuring just these two characters? Big mistake. Especially when we barely know anything about Heath.

At least we get to see Rick and Aaron team up next week.

Maybe because I'm the slow burn type but I like these kind of episodes that slows things down and does some community building and found last night to be one of the more entertaining episodes of the season. I don't even mind Tara's character probably because I know someone just like her lol. I've never been a fan of full throttle constant splicing of different threads together trying to tie up loose ends. It's one of the things that frustrates me about Game of Thrones.

Yeah, there's no reason why this couldn't have been combined with the Daryl prisoner episode.

Totally. A better show would have been able to tie these two separate storylines together with a central theme. We learned that the Oceanside was terrorized by the Saviors. So, why not contrast that with what life is like in the Sanctuary? There, you have a group of women who act as a harem for Negan, while in the other community, women are self sufficient. Seems like a no brainer.

Another boring and disappointing episode this season that does nothing to advance the story. All Out War won't even start until season 8 at this point.

I've actually liked the rest of the episodes this season. In the grand scheme of things, I think that this has still been better than the first half of season six. I see a lot of people complaining about this season, but were they paying attention a year ago? To me, that was way more frustrating. It was basically 8 episodes of Daryl, Sasha and Abraham driving back to Alexandria after the mostly failed attempt to drive the walkers away combined with the annoyingly unnecessary Glenn fakeout death that was stretched out over a month and the 90 minute Morgan episode that really didn't need to be that long. The only standout episode from the first half of season six was when the wolves attacked. It didn't really start to pick up steam until the midseason premiere. I think the show will start to pick up steam again once all of the groups join together, but outside of last night's episode, I've been enjoying season 7.

I enjoyed Tara's attitude towards the women, but that's about it.

All these filler episodes would've been okay in a vacuum but it''s been so tedious watching them one after another. I can't believe the writers had so little plot in mind for the first half of the season. Or maybe it's been a budget problem. Either way, AMC executives need to start upping the tempo of the show or it will continue to bleed viewers.

omg I hate Rachel! Did you see her spit on the floor at Tara's feet???! i can't with that b*itch. She is being raised as a tramp

I didn't mind this episode but my expectations are low because the writers are weak this season :(

Oh, is that what that was? I caught that on a second viewing, but all this time I was wondering why Tara just randomly gave Rachel the finger. I thought it was for Rachel almost shooting her, but yeah, just saw her spit on the ground as Tara walked by...and missing.

But then, looking at their shooting prowess, the women of Oceanside aren't exactly good at aiming.

^Which is ironic since the woman in charge of the Oceanside colony told Tara they shoot/kill strangers on sight. Not only most of the women (aside from Cyndie) are bad shots but they've hesitated shooting/killing Tara, when they had her at gunpoint a couple of times during the episode.
