Season 7 Spoilers and Speculation

Justice was probably the best received episode of the season but Clark was pretty much a secondary character in it who got schooled by Oliver.

I think what Clark has actually learned is that now he has a new deus ex machina (Oliver) to randomly mention in future episodes.

I'm gonna go on record and say if that happened, I'd be ecstatic. It's all down to the casting for me right now (big surprise, huh? LOL), and Bell would bring many new fans to the show. So I'm all for it. Yeah... it's all about casting.

What's Sarah Carter up to these days? LOL
Heh.. I called for Kristen Bell to be cast over on B.T. yesterday. She'd be PERFECT.

What's cool is that KB is at least on a friendly basis with both Tom and Kristin (Kreuk) because there are candids of her having fun with both of them at CW events.
AND remember.. Tom and KB won that recent poll we were pumping... there were an awful lot of voters in that poll - maybe TPTB were paying attention. :D One can only hope.

I took a stroll around a few msg boards to see what the natives were saying about the Supergirl news. 90% of posters at TWOP and Sweet (and I'm being generous with that percentage) HATE it.

Does that surprise anyone? LOL... The more 'vocal' of the posters on TWOP hate everything (they just like having a place to ***** and sound cool ;)), and Sweet people truly only care about Lana and Clark.

What's the reaction at K-site? Or DTS? The one thing that is consistent across the board - is that people are talking. Methinks TPTB aren't so dumb after all. ;)

Incidentally, for those who've been asking, Clark is 20 years old right now. He stated he was 18 in Hidden, and he has a birthday near the end of each season. So at the beginning of S5, he was 18. S6 he was 19, and S7 he is 20. At the end of this season (S7), he'll be 21. I'm sure they'll make a point out of showing his b-day like they have in the past. Easy way to remember it is to just take Welling's actual age and minus 10 years. It's close enough to Clark's age within a few months LOL. ;)

Oooh.. thanks for laying that out. I knew he was 19 or 20, but I always forget when his birthday falls (approximately) in the season. Good rule of thumb about subtracting 10 from Tom's age.

How is Clark supposed to "mentor" someone his own age?

I think the actual mentoring will be more in terms of the practical differences of a human society vs. a Kryptonian one.

If indeed Kryptonian society is cold and No Fun, this will be an interesting contrast to Human society and how differently Kryptonians respond to the different environment. A lot of who our "Clark" is, is truly attributable to being raised by humans in a human society. This whole scenario just goes to further prove how truly unique and alone Clark is in this universe.

In TV writing, it's a bad sign when you have to keep introducing new characters into your show.

There's no doubt that it's an attempt to boost ratings, but isn't everything about that? With all the recent success of Spidey movies and Heroes, and the big numbers of the mythology episodes last season, TPTB are just going with it and trying to give the people what they want (so they'll tune in.)

I agree that it sucks to mold the show *only* in terms of ratings, as opposed to quality story-telling - but we can only hope that they are going to try and serve both. So I don't mind the ploy for ratings as long as they do it justice and keep the real heart of this show at the forefront.

Jeff from Concord, California: Any news on the seventh season of Smallville?
It has just been announced that Kara, aka Supergirl, will be joining the cast for the seventh season. Kara, who is Clark's cousin, will have all of Clark's powers and will be able to fly. Kara will also be a potential love interest for Jimmy Olsen.

I find this twist interesting. What does this mean for the Chloe/Jimmy relationship? Maybe it's just a one-sided passing teenaged crush on the part of Kara? Or is the Chloe/Jimmy a thing of the past at this point?

What gets my goat is the fact that they've already gone down this route. TWICE. I figured "Covenant," was enough of a nod to the Supergirl character. Even when she turned out to be some teenager trapped in the cave during the meteor shower, I figured the writers got their Kara fix. This also brings up something problematic. Why would Jor-El fake a "Kara" to lure Clark into the cave wall? How did the A.I. Jor-El know her ship didn't make it to Earth? Let's say it's program was able to detect a malfunction in Kara's ship. So, why does Jor-El send FakeKara to Clark as a romantic love interest? Ewwww....

LOL.. I was trying to figure out how they will incorporate the 'other' Kara into the story. I think it could be as simple as Jor-El needed a name for a beautiful young Kryptonian girl and Kara is the one that his limited memory cells popped up. The fake Kara never said she was Clark's cousin (I don't think)... that's just the excuse that Clark used to explain her to Lana.
Secondly, the character of Raya filled in the rest of the Supergirl interpretation that was absent from FakeKara.
Did she? My impression was that Raya was just a Kryptonian woman who was also Jor-El's loyal assistant. Is that part of the Kara backstory? I honestly don't know.

After very little FOS and Jor-El last season, I just hope we get some training in and more Jor-El/Clark interaction...now that he fullfilled his mission to rid the world of Phantoms. (After Bizzaro that is.)

Oh man.. they REALLY need to get back to the FOS. I think everyone misses it. And what a cool setting for them to use on a TV show - I know that seems so simple, but it's part of the major coolness factor, IMO that distinguishes SV from anything else on TV.

Yea, I like the fact that she can fly..it'll make Clark want to hurry and learn how it's done. Plus it will be harder for him to keep track of her if she can just up and fly off on him...so he will need to learn how to fly quickly.

I just have a feeling that they are going to break the original premise, and have Clark learn how to fly this season.:woot:

I've also been wondering about the flying thing.

What if what Kara says is correct and Clark really can't fly yet? I know the ability is within him since we saw Kal fly - but perhaps the red-K was needed to make that latent ability accessible to him at this time. It's like his other abilities, and how they all had to come in their own time and took a little work on his part before he could actually control them.

I dunno.. I'm babbling here.. but that seems to make sense to me. The ability is there, but perhaps he doesn't have full access to it yet.

And girls DO mature faster. :p

i know this is a bit off topic but, i saw the last episode of L&C and i am completely confused about the baby. Cna anyone tell me what the hell was going on with it?

(If memory serves...) Officially, the baby was supposed to have been left there by one of Lois & Clark's decendants. I think it was left there for safe keeping due to some crisis on-going in the future. The next season was going to be with them dealing with trying to care for a child.

oh. so it was a baby from the future. At first i thougt that was how Kryptonians concieved.

Maybe Kryptonians get their powers at different times.

I have not been faithfully watching the last few seasons. I seem to remember in the first few seasons he had somewhat of a fear of heights. I remember two scenes, one on a windmill and one jumping across buildings in Metropolis.

I imagine his inability to fly is psychological at this point, especially since his body has done it before. He needs to gain confidence in his ability and judgement.

Exclusive Breaking News: ALFRED GOUGH SPEAKS ABOUT SUPERGIRL ON 'SMALLVILLE' - SEASON 7

Plus, the co-creator reveals plans to bring original Supergirl herself -- Helen Slater -- on to the show some time next season

LOCATION: Smallville

THE SKINNY: When iF got the word that Supergirl is going to be a part of Season Seven of SMALLVILLE, we couldn’t wait to find out more from co-creator and executive producer Alfred Gough.

Today he gave us a glimpse into what having Supergirl on the CW series will mean and that also includes the revelation of an appearance by the 1984 Supergirl herself – Helen Slater.

In the Seventh Season premiere, Supergirl (whose name is Kara) will arrive. She’s Clark Kent’s 19-year old cousin and was born on Krypton. She is the daughter of Zor-El, Jor-El’s brother and she possesses all of Clark’s powers and one he doesn’t have yet – the ability to fly. She’s also a bit rebellious and that puts her at odds with Clark and on the radar of Lex (Michael Rosenbaum). Jimmy Olsen (Aaron Ashmore) will also be a romantic interest.

iF MAGAZINE: The original SUPERGIRL movie was derided by fans and is still ripped apart to this day. What do you think the key is to making the character work within the SMALLVILLE universe without carrying over the movie stigma?

ALFRED GOUGH: I think that the film was so long ago, and so forgettable, that most people have done just that. Our interest in Supergirl stems from her recent resurgence in comics especially the work done by our old pal Jeph Loeb.

iF: With Clark it's a no flight, no tights rule. For Supergirl, she's going to fly, but are you giving here the "no tights" rule too?

GOUGH: Kara will have flights, but no tights

iF: Will Supergirl be learning her powers like Clark did during the season or will she be more advanced when we meet her than Clark and serve as sort of a mirror to Clark's evolution?

GOUGH: Kara will be more advanced, although there will be powers that Clark teaches her about and vice versa -- perhaps Clark will even attempt "flying lessons."

iF: Will we be seeing a Helen Slater cameo by any chance?

GOUGH: Our plan is to have Helen on the show sometime this season, although when, how and who she would play are still up in the air.

iF: Since Jeannot Szwarc helmed the original SUPERGIRL movie and has directed many SMALLVILLE episodes, any plans for having him direct the first episode of Supergirl's appearance?

GOUGH: Jeannot, unfortunately, was all booked up on other shows by the time we got the official Season 7 pick-up, so he won't be back this season.

iF: How will Bizarro fit into all of this and will the character have a season-long arc?

GOUGH: You are just gonna have to wait and see about Bizarro like everybody else, but I'll tell you one thing, he won't be completely vanquished in the season opener like Zod was.

Bizarro's staying around & Clark may attempt those flying lessons, pretty much what everyone was hoping for right? There you go. :D

I'd be more than happy to explain it to you . for starters the Child is their biological baby but it's from the future .

Second read this

that sounded good i wish they hadn't cancelled it.

Seems kinda silly that Kara is more advanced than Clark. But whatever.

she'll still have to learn some powers from Clark.

Agree, thought in some twisted way (While TPTB on Lois & Clark never got to explore the life of The teenage boy version of Clark Kent, throught his son .)

Al & Miles sure have done a bang up job on smallville . With their twisted version of Clark Kent's life growing up in "smalllville" before he became SUPERMAN in Metropolis *note

she'll still have to learn some powers from Clark.

I doubt that very much (I'm almost certain that either her uncle Jor-EL or her Father Zor-EL told her about earth's Yellow Sun's effect on Kryptonians, and how they have powers far beyond those of mortal men or women)

Also keep in mind Kryptonian's are a highly advance Intelligent Civilization. Clark spent 16 years on Earth so his Intelligent level isn't at the proper place yet, By the time he becomes SUPERMAN , he'll will have arrived .

do you think they'll carry on with a Metropolis spin off. In a few years i mean not straight away.

Maybe it's just that I'm not the biggest fan of Silver-Age Supes, but I don't think he needs to be super-intelligent in order to be Superman, or that it really plays a factor at all.

to me Superman has never seemed SUPER intelligent, intelligent yes but, not a genious.

He's super intelligent in the classic interpretations; 78 Superman, Superman Returns..

Considering all the years of training in science and knowledge he got from Jor-El; hes probably the smartest individual on the planet.

He just isnt that wise when it comes to how he handles Lois Lane.

In the modern postcrisis version; hes more cosmopolitan and worldly....than booksmart.

I wasn't talking about "Silver-Age" I'm talking now Post Crisis, because clark's really smart, even Bruce mentioned it quite a bit , on how Clark's brain work faster than a normal human being .

Which, to be fair, is simply a restoration of the old super-intelligent Silver Age Superman.

So I guess we both win this round. ;)

the thing i like about superman is even though he is super intelligent he doesn't show it off you know what i mean he doesn't use all big words and long phrases he speask liek we would showing he is human.
