Breaking: 'Smallville' to end next season
by Michael Ausiello
Discretion and restraint are clearly not among Tom Wellings superpowers.
The CW was hoping to announce at its upfront presentation Thursday that next season of Smallville the shows 10th would be its last. But Welling who was expected to deliver said announcement in person jumped the gun and blabbed it to the press last night.
Season 10 of Smallville will be the last season, Welling told HollywoodLife.com last night at an event in Beverly Hills.
That noise you hear is Dawn Ostroff frantically searching for her blue kryptonite dagger.
I think what's more surprising is Tom Welling giving an interview!
Welling better wear the Superman tights in Season 10.
That's good. Not that I don't like Smallville, but 10 seasons is great and we'll have more than 200 episodes. More importantly, they know that this will be the last season from the start and they won't have to decide mid-season, or even later. I hope they give us a big series finale!

I doubt CW will do this, but I would love it if they made the series finale an event much like how ABC is doing it for LOST. Show a 2 hour retrospective followed by the 2 hour series finale. At the very least, I hope they promote the series finale like crazy.

For a show carded off into the Friday slot, I'm skeptical they'll do that too.
If anything, I think the series finale may tie in with a sneak peek of "Green Lantern;" which could boost up ratings.
All so very, very true.As sad as it is to hear officailly that the show is ending after next season, it's not very surprising.
This is really the best thing for the Show at this point because now the writers have a definitive end point to work towards and can finish the show on it's own terms. Seeing as how it pretty much carried that Network for a decade, it's only fitting.
I will miss this show like hell when it's finally gone, but the time has come to make Clark into the legend and move on. Smallville will end it's run as not only the longest-running Superman show ever, but also the longest running Superhero show period, and the longest running genre show. pretty damn impressive if you ask me.

Because of working nights or being busy I just stopped watching it after the 1st season, I never thought it would last without some hints of the costume.Back in 2001 who would have thought that this show would last 10 seasons?
Fat chance, it's probably a big DVD seller but I barely even hear a passable mention if anybody still watches the show.Mikelus said:I'm glad it is confirmed, ten seasons is more than enough, hopefully we'll get a "Smallville: The Final Season" promotion like Lost.
