Comics Sensational Spider-Man Annual #1

Anyone remember the last time they "killed off" MJ? Blew her up on a plane. But then it was revealed she wasn't on the plane when it blew and had been held captive by some stalker guy with weird telepathic abilities.

I was just wondering. Was that the plan all along, or did the negative reaction to MJ's death cause such shockwaves they decided to bring her back due to a negative reaction?

Also, I'm one of the Spidey fans who really got into comics with a married Peter Parker. It's never felt cumbersome or hindering to me. I've never thought, "Wow....he'd be cooler if weren't married".

Good point. Hadn't thought about it from THAT angle...BUT...I've been reading since the "beginning" of Spider-MAn...I was SINGLE (am happily married now) when Pete tied the knot.

And now thinking back, not ONCE did it cross my mind back then that "I don't relate to a married Spider-Man anymore." In fact, I still enjoyed Spidey the same as ever. IT MADE NO DIFFERENCE TO THIS KID. I didn't stop reading Spidey and switch to a "single" Green Lantern.

Nor did I ever take down my Larry Bird posters when i was a kid after reading Sports illustrated, finding out that HE was married. He was still one of my heroes. "Marriage" has officially never ruined ANY hero of mine!! LOL.......sheesh! (get a grip Marvel!!!!)

In fact...it seemed normal and fine...like a logical progression. I've never found it odd or weird or "offensive to singles".

It WILL make a difference HOWEVER if we go backwards now, killing MJ. (Which i don't think she'll die.)

Worse than killing her, is MINDWIPING the marvel world, including MJ, to fix dumb storylines and "fix" the marriage (but in someway satisfy long-time fans" by keeping her "around" like the little red haired girl.) There will be NO satisfaction in THIS more likely scenario of what they will do.

I've already read (before) when MJ & Pete dated. Done that.
Pete "RE-DATING" his wife and not knowing it is just DUMB. (*please RE-READ that last sentence JQ and anyone else who thinks otherwise.)

Nor do i want to read MARRIED PETE unknowingly date OTHER WOMEN for any reason they contrive. Spidey-wife-cheater is NOT a better option than happily married. Nor is more relatable or natural or logical.

See....my thing is, Peter has always been written as a one-woman man! He was headed for marriage ever since the beginnine. Betty....Gwen....MJ...the only one he never really seemed bound to marry was Black Cat.

In fact, Peter has dealt with all the cool scenarios with dating:

-Betty loved Peter but hated Spider-man.
-Gwen loved Peter, hated Spider-man, and died directly due to Peter being Spider-man.
-Black Cat loved Spider-man, but not Peter Parker.
-MJ, the girl next door who accepted Peter as Peter and Spider-man, and he married her.

How many more steps and types of relationships could Peter go through before it all just started to repeat?

Really...do we want a swinging single Peter who wants to marry every girl he dates until the girl is killed off, or learns to hate Spider-man?

^All so true.

We've been there, done it, with all of it.

Pete IS the kinda guy, raised in a loving family per say with AUnt May and Uncle Ben, who has "family values".

He IS the kinda guy, as you pointed out, would want to be married. (and pass on those values, (someday). And, a mindwipe doesn't make him UN-MARRIED or change his core "person" or values.

And, I've been meaning to ask....IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE WHO HONESTLY WAS TURNED OFF BY PETE'S MARRIAGE WHEN IT HAPPENED AND QUIT THE BOOK???? Or just couldn't find it in them to relate to any married person????

It was all the negative reaction from The fans,

Yeh, it was VERY negative before.

THat's why i don't subscribe to those who say she is going to get killed here.

They will try a different angle...mindwipe of sorts...to get rid of her, per say.

Man...I remember when they tried to kill her off. It was horrible! To make it worse, they spent the entire relaunch trying to make her into a total b****! She didn't care about Peter's responsibilities, she only cared about her carreer! She was constantly working or working out, and she and Peter never spent any time together. They tried to phase her out of the entire book and make us hate her before killing her off, and it STILL failed.

Also, we all knew that it was all a test when we didn't see her body....which was made more stupid by the fact that her wedding ring was recovered from the crash, but no remains (see the ASM 2000 annual where Peter has the ring to give back to her).

Now, 6 years after JMS wrote an actual great reconciliation issue (ASM50), and MJ has become an even more permamnent fixture in Spidey's world (3 movies, all "about a girl"), he's thinking about giving it another try?!

Argh....

I love how peter talks about MJ .

I think the past twenty years of stories kind of vindicate the marriage...:yay:

And I've been there since then and kept an open mind and I thought the marriage would be great, but things just didn't seem right after that. I've liked a lot of the Spider-man stories, but I don't feel like Peter's life has gone anywhere.

Amen. Also, I'm one of the Spidey fans who really got into comics with a married Peter Parker.

This is the reason why I think a lot of people have a hard time grasping this, just like the people who came in when the Clone Saga came out, and to this day think it's the greatest story ever told (which is fine by the way), and one day there will be people who will think that Sins past was a masterpiece. It all boils down to opinion I guess.
By the way Shinyle, is that your artwork in your avatar?

Yup...Punisher War Journal just doesn't do it for me...especially when Punisher MAX kicks so much ass!!

Yeah, that MAX book is freakin' awesome. I suggest everyone start reading that book instead of War Journal. That is if you're not already reading it! :wow:
