Which is why they gave the Oscar to "Spider-Man 2" for the train sequence and not because the two helicopters during the end swinging scene looked like toys.

that scene was terrific, no doubt.

the rest of the fx, especially the cgi human faces/digital stunt-doubles were terrible... and especially considering the budget of the movie, and the fact that movies like the matrix sequels and blade II and many others did the whole digital stunt-double thing just as good years before it. everything else in spider-man 3 was on par (at best) with spider-man 2. that's why it didn't get the nod.

and that's why i don't think at world's end should get the nomination... it didn't do anything we hadn't seen in dead man's chest, and it was a pretty crappy movie to boot.

I see your point, and I would have to agree with you on Pirates 3's nod. I think that Transformers should definately walk away with the little golden naked guy.

I was not impressed by the FX in Revolutions at all and they didn't save that poor ass movie.

To me FX have to work in conjunction with the movie, and even if it has the best FX, if the movie sucks it doesn't deserve a nod.

Well, the visual effects did'nt save PoTc 3 from being a crappy movie now did it...Nor Spiderman 3..
I will agree visual effects are'nt just about the special effects or CGI used. Its how it was used,was it needed,does it flow with the movie. Does it make the movie worse or better.

300: It was visually entertaining. The cut scenes,the scenery,the coloring of the film was very good. Though I think the 'matrix' style effects will hurt it for this voting..

PoTC3: Though I disliked this movie,the visual effects were very solid. The sceneries were very well done,the CGI stuff looked like it belonged,everything blended in with its surroundings..

Bourne Ultimatum: Though this movie did'nt have the CGI like the others it was still visually good. This movie proves u don't have to throw in CGI robots,or matrix illusions to make a visually good movie..

Transformers: Not sure what to say? IMO this movie was way overrated in every department. However for this award its all about visuals. They were well done overall. I will give the CGI props on the auto/deceptacons,but overall visually the movie was'nt on par as I think it could of been..I don't think visually it was appealling or worthy of winning. However; I dont get a vote,but I will assume this one will win?

I am Legend: This ones hard to say. Visually it looked solid,but I don't think enough to win the award. The whole deserted city was very good,though complaints on the Dark Seekers came to forfront.

CG at its finest point are the best kind of special effects in this day and age. See "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, "Jurassic Park", and even the original "Star Wars" trilogy for reference.

-Special FX go beyond CG. The Bourne Ultimatum was a remarkable achievement for live action practical FX.

-Instead of bashing it, we should be celebrating movies that take the action movie genre back down to earth with all the CG garbage that gets shoved down audiences throats.

-Nothing in The Bourne Ultimatum looked fake. Watch the commentary and there were many things that never looked like FX that were as well.

I don't appreciate the unjustified bashing for Ultimatum. Die Hard 4 looked ridiculous and overblown to me.

a) They feel that Transformers is more worthy of the award because there is just so much more special effects (CGI and practical) in it than in Ultimatum.
b) Just because you think Ultimatum should be the winner doesn't mean everybody will, man. You give remarks like that, and you're going to get flack for it.
