Developer needs more time to deliver on quality.

Shadow-of-War-Delayed-Oct-10.jpg

Warner Bros. Interactive has delayed Middle-earth: Shadow of War from its previously planned late August release date to October 10 worldwide, the publisher announced.

Here’s a message from the game’s development team:
Middle-earth: Shadow of War expands gameplay in every dimension, including the massive open world, the story, the RPG systems, and personal player stories of the Nemesis System.

As with Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, Monolith is committed to delivering the highest quality experience. In order to do this, we have made the difficult decision to move our launch date to ensure that Middle-earth: Shadow of War will deliver on that promise.

We understand that it might be disappointing to have to wait a little longer for the release and are sorry for the delay, but we are working hard to make an amazing game. We’re excited to show more at E3.

I'm actually happy to hear this. While the game looks like it's developing nicely, I'm glad they're allowing themselves more time to polish it.

I'm glad it will get some more polish. I'm getting kinda tired of hearing about delayed games though.

However, I am glad that this isn't one of those games that was announced years ago. I like a short announcement-to-release window.

I was hoping this game would stick to its original release date, but whatever. I can wait, this is going to be one incredible game by default, adding two extra months of polish will put it over the top.

Game studios really need to stop announcing release dates months in advance. AAA games seem to always get delayed some. At this point the first release date that game studios announce might as well have an asterisk beside it with the statement: "This release date is 100% BS."

Well, I am only about a quarter of the way through the first game, so this delay doesn't bother me at all.

A delayed game is a polished game.

Shadow of War may be delayed until October, but Monolith has promised that the delay will only make Middle-earth: Shadow of War even better. This past Friday, they hosted their regular Twitch live stream and on their latest episode, they explained the delay.
VP of Creative, Micheal de Plater explained:
"This build is old, there’s a bunch of stuff we fixed already. We’re embarrassed to even show it, our E3 build is light years ahead. The thing that we’ve learned during the course of making this game, is how much Shadow of War is bigger than the previous game in every dimension. The size of the game, the number of enemies, the complexity of the combat system, the Nemesis system…
The process of actually testing, debugging, fixing bugs is just absolutely massive. We know that when this game ships, the level of polish and stability and balance has to be that of Shadow of Mordor, so there’s a really high bar that we have to meet."
With many die-hard fans of the previous game, this standpoint is promising. Chips on developer's shoulders are usually what causes the downfall of many sequels. The vast increase in RPG elements and customization should have the same polish as the original game, Shadow of Mordor.
Shadow of War will be showcased most likely at Microsoft's E3 Briefing next Sunday at 2PM Pacific Time. Stay tuned to GameZone for more news on Shadow of War and the entirety of E3.

Troy Baker will be returning as the voice of Talion in this year’s Middle-earth: Shadow of War, but that’s not the only responsibility Baker shouldered during the game’s production.
In addition to voicing the game’s lead character, Baker took on the position of performance capture director for Shadow of War, as revealed in an interview with Glixel. Baker is arguably the most prolific video game voice actor and performance capture artist of recent years, and now that experience will translate to the performances of every major character in the upcoming adventure.
Baker also described being deeply involved in production meetings on the game, helping to flesh out the story and motivations for characters as well as ensuring the cutscenes reinforce the playable portions of Shadow of War. From the sound of things, he put in an impressive amount of work behind-the-scenes in addition to the effort we expect from him on the mocap stage.
To learn more about Baker’s experience as performance capture director, and the responsibilities that came along with it, fans will want to check out his full interview with Glixel.
An initial tease of Baker’s performance as Talion can be found in the game’s reveal trailer, but the publisher’s extensive livestream of the game during E3 2017 will provide an even deeper look at the performances that bring Shadow of War together. The livestream runs all three days of the show, with Shadow of War‘s various times listed in the official streaming schedule.
Middle-earth: Shadow of War launches October 10th on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The game was originally planned to drop on August 22nd, but it was recently delayed so the team could spend more time on polish.

Really hoping this game is as great/ better than Shadow of Mordor. Just read up on Mass Effect Andromeda development problems and it was said that last few months of development are mainly used for polishing, but for Mass Effect Andromeda they were still trying to keep the game from falling apart. That's why I'm optimistic about Shadow of War's delay - hopefully it's to allow more polish time.

keep in mind these people aren't the same studio and aren't Ea middle management that screw this game of Andromeda up. and this same thing that happened to Ea recent happened to sega year's prior with this same middle management problem's. thiswas pre sega buying atlus that has change that culture but this is a separate studio from both of them and a seprate publisher .

They (monolith soft) are under warner games. Un less they mistakenly hired those same people that were managing at EA over seeing andromeda that did not allow their own dev's to work on the game of Andromeda and out source to other places, this shouldn't happen. it shouldn't this isn't likely.

beside from what we've seen of the live streams the director the the dev's they have shown aren't former bioware workers.. And please think positively.

More interactions between Talion and his enemies will make the story even deeper.

We've learned a lot about Middle-earth: Shadow of War over the past few months. So far, we know there will be Nazgul boss battles and much more robust predator skills.

With as much information, the announcement of a delay was disappointing, the developers promised it was for making the game absolutely perfect.

At Microsoft's E3 conference, we saw even more gameplay, showing an assault on a fortress. As Talion takes over the mind of an Ogre, a cutscene starts, showing more personality put into the enemies we can take over.

[YT]zkC_K5XPlx0[/YT]
Assaults happen on a tactical level, picking what Orc does what as they plan out the attack. Talion is also assaulted out in the wild as certain captains and warlords seek vengeance in a much stronger way than before.
The game will be released on October 10, 2017.

Your nemesis returns, but so does your strongest ally.

[YT]eZ1AGT0rwzY[/YT]

Although Middle-Earth: Shadow of War was delayed until October, the game remains filled with hype. At E3 this year, Microsoft took the stage to show off more of Shadow of War after the delay announcement and fans remained excited. With this delay, Monolith Productions has the chance to polish the game to perfection, as well as add features like the one announced today: The Nemesis Forge.

The Nemesis Forge is technically a free add-on to 2015's Shadow of Mordor, but it acts as a transfer function between the games. Shadow of Mordor created the Nemesis System, which randomly builds enemies with different personalities, looks, strengths/weaknesses and if they defeat you enough times, they'd become your nemesis. Likewise, the thralls you get throughout the game grow in strength the more you assist them, and thus become powerful allies. All of this was randomly generated and not scripted by Monolith.

Accessing the Nemesis Forge in the selection screen for Shadow of Mordor allows players to take these Uruk Hai that players have grown fond of and bring them into the sequel, Shadow of War. Take your Nemesis and most loyal follower with you into the next fight.

As the video above states: "Nothing Will Be Forgotten."

When we heard Silicon Valley‘s Kumail Nanjiani was lending his voice to Middle-earth: Shadow of War, we weren’t expecting him to voice an orc. But that’s exactly who he’s playing, except with a twist: Nanjiani’s orc is completely insecure.
One of our favorite parts in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor was when the orc captains would spit violent threats at us, but Nanjiani’s character, the Agonizer, hasn’t quite mastered the art of the insult. He’s almost too self-conscious for us to even want to kill him. It’s possible that you’ll be able to recruit the Agonizer as an ally, thanks to the game’s upgraded Nemesis system, but who would want the Uruk equivalent of Woody Allen leading their troops?

[YT]gi7jt-RvbBM[/YT]
A well-known gamer, Nanjiani has lent his distinct voice to characters in a couple games, most recently taking on the role of Jarun Tann in Mass Effect: Andromeda, not to mention animated shows such as Bob’s Burgers, Ugly Americans and Adventure Time.
Middle-earth: Shadow of War is coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on October 10th.

In a live stream today that lasted around 30 minutes, Monolith introduced the in-game economy of Shadow of War as well as the Marketplace. Jared Rabago and Mike de Plater explained what the market contains and what in-game currency you’ll need.
Through the market you’ll get: Loot Chests, War Chests, XP Boosts and Bundles. Loot chests contain gear (weapons and armor) of varying rarity (rare or epic). These chests also contain Boosts that will help your character level up faster.
War chests, on the other hand, provide Orc followers of varying rarity (regular or legendary) to help you forge a strong army. They also contain Training Orders that will enable you to level up and customize your Orcs.
With the types of boosts you get you can customize your orcs and grant them different weapons or elemental damages like fire arrows. You can even level up a rare orc and make it a legendary one with boosts.
The final type of item that you can buy here are Bundles. They package up Loot Chests, War Chests and Boosts together at a good price.
The first currency you’ll need is “Mirian”, which was used in the first game (Shadow of Mordor). You can use it to buy basic silver and gold loot chests. Mirian can be obtained by:

 • Defeating Treasure Orcs
 • Destroying Gear for Mirian
 • Destroying Orc followers for Gear
 • Finding Mirian stashes throughout the game
The second one is “Gold” which can be used to buy higher level of loot boxes, War chests, Boosts and bundles. It can be obtained by:

 • Purchasing through the Xbox store, PlayStation store or by adding to your Steam Wallet using real money.
 • Awarded in small amounts at specific milestones.
 • Awarded for participating in community challenges.
Keep in mind that all of the stuff you buy here you can also get it through the game. However, if by some reason you feel you want to get them faster, you can go to the marketplace and buy it.
Be sure to catch Monolith next week on their next stream.
Middle-Earth: Shadow of War will be available October 10 on Xbox one, Xbox One X, Windows 10 PC (Windows Store and Stream), PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro

First Loot Boxes, now this.

MIDDLE-EARTH: SHADOW OF WAR HAS A RANKED ONLINE MODE NOW

Middle-earth: Shadow of War is learning some slightly unexpected lessons from contemporary gaming. Last week, we found out it features loot box microtransactions - today we discover it has a ranked online mode.

Social Conquest (as it is somewhat oxymoronically titled) will task players with choosing one of their captured Nemesis Fortresses, outfitting its defenses, appointing an orc Overlord and accompanying captains, then making it available for attack by online players. It's not a far cry from Metal Gear Solid 5's Forward Operating Bases, essentially.

To read more, click the link. Yeah, looks like I'll be waiting for the GOTY Edition to go on sale.
