Shane Black Directing Predator Sequel! - Part 1

While I can appreciate the diverse cast, it's down to Olivia Wilde and Yvonne Strahovski. I'm sure there are a few other actresses but are not featured players.

But because it's Shane Black, he'll give them things to do and have plenty to say. He's good at that! The one lazy trope of some movies, that includes Sully and American Sniper, is the thankless 'worried wife on the phone' role, and we probably won't see it here.

It'd be such a waste to cast Yvonne in the film and then stick her with a role like that. And Olivia is playing a scientist I think, so there's no reason why she cannot be more directly involved either.

I can see Yvonne being an equal to Boyd's relationship. I hope so. Often Black tries to subvert expectations, with children and female characters.

I mean why not make them both soldiers? I mean military people marry/hook up with each other sometimes.

Yvonne could be a soldier, maybe, and that's how she met Boyd?

Olivia MUNN. Not Wilde.

I did not realize Sarah Walker was in this? Well thank you Shane Black.

Tell me it takes place inside a maximum security prison!

Judging by how great FX has been, that's a good thing. I'd like a blockbuster film to be as good as an FX tv show.

Loving what I'm seeing.

The Walking Pred.

I wouldn't mind a FX or Netflix series involving Predators at all. Could follow a team of contractors who work for the US government traveling around the world tracking Predators, cleaning up after them and occasionally having close encounters of the violent kind.

Like the Walking Dead, I would focus on the human interactions, between the team and other humans in the hotspots they visit, cartels, guerillas, warlords, terrorists, etc.

Deadline is reporting today that Jake Busey has just been cast in Shane Black’s The Predator. It’s of course interesting to note that Busey’s father, Gary Busey, was the star of the 1990 film Predator 2. To make this even more interesting, perhaps even fateful, Gary Busey was 45 years old at the time Predator 2 was shot. Jake Busey’s current age? Yup. 45 years old!
No character details are available at this time, and we’re thinking it’d be fairly silly to suggest that Jake will be playing the son of his dad’s character, Peter Keyes. But you never know!

Well, this is a welcome surprise.

This is a pleasant surprise, I really hope that he is playing someone related to Keyes. It would be a big step forward in them officially recognizing Predator 2, which the other movies haven't acknowledged. Predator 2 is a fun movie and a more than worthy successor to the original movie. Time has been very kind to it and it has aged well. And I will fight anyone who says different. The more connections to it the better.

The lions. The tigers. The Buseys. Oh my.

Ok my memory is getting foggy a bit with this one so someone please remind me. So is this film taking place after the original? After the first 2? After 1&2 and Predators? Is it just a soft reboot or a full reboot? I totally forgot what the plan was with this.

Predator 2 is certainly watchable imo. It's biggest problem is that it's, inconsistent.

Predator 2 had its moments but it was a downgrade.
How many action films on their own come close to Predator? It's not many.

Predator 2 has only gotten better with age. At the time it was criticized for being too different from the first movie, and that's what makes it work.
We get everything flipped on us right away. The Predator is involved from the first 5 minutes. The traditional hunt has been abandoned. This hunter goes nuts on everyone instead of the traditional hunting of one prize at a time. You also have nice little time capsule of a movie, from the hard copy satire, to the growing fear in the early 90s of the escalating urban crime rate.
On TOP of all that, you have prime badass Danny Glover who is completely believable, intense Gary Busey, and prime Bill Paxton chewing the scenery and being as *****ey as we can expect him to be.
Despite the different setting, the urban jungle is also very eerie when accompanied by the new motifs that Alan Silvestri provided, ditching alot of the military motifs from the first movie and adapting jungle and tribal motifs.
It also has some excellent suspense, the aftermath of the subway scene, the meat locker, and the pursuit of the Predator undergound. It also expands the mythos of Predator, it's been a shame nobody has been able to build on it worth a damn. It's very different from Predator, and that's what makes it a good watch!

Well then:

C'mon mother****er, LET'S DANCE. :woot:

Predator 2 aged extremely well. Today it would be rated as likely best Predator movie sequel. Not good as first one, but certainly movie in right direction for franchise. If this Predator movie is good as 2nd one, we should all lick Shane Black boots.

Predator 2 got too much backslash. Really, Predator is maybe best action sci fi movie of all time. Not many movies could have live it up to hype of first one.

My biggest problem with it, is actually the Predator itself (or more specifically it's characterization). Everyone else works pretty well imo.
