Shane Black Directing Predator Sequel! - Part 1

This series' main antagonist is a species of super predators that look like something cooked up in a mad scientists lab. They have interstellar travel and all sorts of strange scifi of equipment. But the predators genetically altering their bodies to make themselves better is just too far for some of yall? Even humans try to experiment with genetics to improve ourselves. What's so wrong with the idea of the Predator species, a technologically advanced species, doing the same thing?

Yeah I’m with you on this one I don’t see what the problem is at all honestly.

Oh gosh, we're going to get one of those scenes where a suburban random thinks the Predator is a really cool Halloween costume and uncomfortable chitchat with it before getting killed, aren't we?

So the stakes in this movie are the save the world type? That's a first for this series since the objectives of the Predators in the other movies are just hunting.

Yes.

It's not that Predators genetically-modifying/upgrading is something they wouldn't do, it fits. It just sort of reeks of "bigger, more badass, even more extreeeeeeme duuuuudes!", somehow doesn't seem like the type of thing Shane would resort to.

Like, the original guy's not hardcore enough? Wasting a half-dozen green berets and tussling with Ahnuld for a while before blowing himself up so as not to be dishonored with defeat?

Now we need them injecting themselves with DNA from freakin' space-wolves & interstellar crocodile-dinosaurs & ****? :oldrazz:

Sure it'll work fine, it does admittedly sound kind of cheap though. Even so, Shane's the man, Holbrook's a cool choice for the lead, I'm in.

Shane said from the very start that he'd be doing something very different with the franchsie/concept.
And I'm pumped for that.
If I want to see the original "Predator" I'll just watch the original "Predator." If I want an inferior (yet still fun) rehash of the original I'll watch "Predators."
It's a shame that people can't accept something different and demand a variation of what's been done before.

If the DNA thing plays a part in the story why not but if it happens to just be a gimmick without purpose in the story I would be disappointed.
AFAIC, I would prefer the Preds to stay "pure", no DNA manipulation, they can update their weapons, their hunting tactics etc.

Their species is a mix of primitive or simplistic hunting versus their obvious technological superiority. In one way it feels like they use other planets as a hunting ground which fits. They "go back to nature" as it were but then they are not using sticks and stones either.

To put it in simplistic terms: It feels like these guys are the intergalactic equivalent of weekend hunters who go hunting while being severely overpowered against their prey so they aren't as easily injured.

Additionally I have this "really?" kind of thinking of why would they upgrade their DNA from other species where it feels somewhat out of place. More so because it feels like a kitschy thing to do. I have absolutely nothing against DNA modification but in this case the synopsis kind of throws it in there like it's a new thing (because it is) and almost a desperate response where it does not fit.

This is exactly the reason why I didn't care for the Super Predators in the last Movie. We get 3 Predators that are bigger and better than the previous Predators, and they get beaten by a team of randomly thrown together people. Now we get Predators that might be even more advanced, and for some reason they apparently want to wipe out the human race, only to be stopped by some Ex-Soldiers and a science teacher. I hope there's going to be more to it, but that Plot synopsis doesn't sound reassuring.

It doesn't make sense based on established franchise lore.

They are hunters looking to hunt the most dangerous game. It's that simple.

When I think of a Predator in the suburbs I have horrible flashbacks of Aliens Vs Predator: Requiem, the absolute bottom of the barrel for both franchises.

Shane Black, though. He doesn't disappoint.

That sums it up better. And it also points out they are hunters, not exterminators. Why would they want to exterminate us in the least effective way possible? They clearly have mini nukes on their forearms for when they lose. Imagine what their proper war-mongering weapons can do.

M only concern; you would think if they were advancing themselves both technologically and biologically, they would change their prey accordingly too. They know they can best humankind, so why still try to pick us off? There's an entire universe out there, surely there's better suited species to hunt?

Maybe they like what Earth has to offer in terms of people, landscape etc.
The AvP movies tried to make them hunt the Aliens and it was bad.

I have no problem with this. Maybe it will give us something fresh or new.

I don't have a problem with it. Depending on Black's execution, I think it could work.

As long as A) I can see what's going on, and B) Predator rips out some damn spines, I'll be happy.

There's some materials, if I'm not mistaken, that imply that it's human's ability to adapt to different situations/think on their feet/improvise/etc that the Predators respect most of all.

It makes the hunt more challenging, and thus for fun and the kill more valuable, if your enemy is clever in their own right.

And that's basically what happens in all three previous films. Dutch, Harrigan, Royce, and Isabelle all won in the end by improvising and being cunning (and getting lucky as well).

Preach.

It was fine in theaters. I have no idea what the hell they did to the DVD/Blu-ray release.
