Shane Black Directing Predator Sequel! - Part 1

No way this happens. This will be bad, like really bad. If it gets over 40% on RT I will be shocked.

I just don't understand how some people don't see it in the footage....

I don't understand how people see the footage and think it's bad. So... to each their own. :whatever:

And I don't like to whip out RT, but since you've mentioned it: Shane Black has yet to direct a movie which wasn't critically acclaimed:

'KISS KISS, BANG BANG' 85%
'IRON MAN 3' 80%
'THE NICE GUYS' 92%

Maybe watch more movies, learn a little about director track records, Lime.

This could be divisive, like IM3, some controversial decisions made. But as JKR pointed out, Black's never directed a "bad" movie, and even the lesser movies he's written and passed off to other directors are generally decent-to-good.

Plus just tonally he's the closest we've got to McTiernan since the original film. Keep an open mind, it's good for ya.

I judge the footage I see. I will be extremely happy to be wrong the movie to be awesome. And I will be the first to apologize if it happens.

Classic lime.

:woot:

Off the top of my head I would've thought that the Predators wouldn't take too kindly to their 'game' being wiped out by the Terminators/Skynet.
There are other planets out there aside from Earth. ;) I'd think if the Predator species are smart enough to travel the Galaxy, they're already a step up on Skynet (as far as I know, they're Earthbound). All the Predators would need to do is drop a planet-wide EMP and Skynet is toast!

The one that’s currently filming?
I didn't know this. I still have reservations about it though!

I wasn't impressed by the Predator trailer. I will see the movie though. Trailers are not always the best indicator of quality. But I do think the movie looked generic in the trailers.

The trailers have been shoddily edited and seemed kind of rushed, but I think the footage itself looks good.

They need to put out a full length, well edited, Redband trailer.

Ultimately I'm here for the well-drawn characters that Black does so well, bouncing off each other in the middle of a Predator attack, probably with a good dose of genre trope subversion to top it off. The next trailer needs to show that off.

This is so not getting a 40% RT average, either. Probably high 70s or 80ish at the lowest. It's Black.

I think the Predators should encounter the Guardians of the Galaxy.

*Generic Morgan Freeman being Morgan Freeman awesomeness*

Anyone else thinks of the bad marketing A New Hope suffered from before people knew what Star Wars could provide? I'm thinking of that and will stop being a pessimist.

Don't take Arnold rejecting to take part cause he didn't like what he read as a sign of the show's quality, and think of all the bad movies he took part in.

Arnold not taking the part had nothing to do with the quality of the script but the quantity of his part. He wanted a major role, not a cameo.

Frankly I really don't care that he isnt in the film. I enjoy Arnold in some of his older films and hes good for a meme but these days I'm fine with him not appearing in films.

He should have just taken the small role imo.

An Arnold cameo would have been cool, but the one I'm still bummed about not being in the film is Benicio del Toro. He had to pull out after filming was pushed back to where it clashed with Soldado, which, incidentally people had been saying looked like a generic action film from the trailers, but is getting great reactions so far.

The movie may be fine, only thing I miss is the one on one, single guy v/s powerful alien feel of the first two films.

We haven't gotten that on the other movies.

This is the problem with Predator, Alien, Terminator etc. The original movies did well so a sequel was always inevitable but they're just not set up to be franchises. They have great central concepts and EVERYTHING else is just guff to give the concept (ie. man vs technological superior alien) some credulity.

When James Cameron made The Terminator, he set out to make a slasher film. When Ridley Scott made Alien he set out to make a horror film. Simple concepts.

Now, instead of trying to make a horror film or a slasher film, they're trying to make a 'Terminator film' or a 'Predator film' and they focus on all the guff which is rarely as interesting (if the guff was interesting the original movies would have been about *that*).

I like Shane Black so I'm expecting some twist or subversion but the trailers are just saying "this is a Predator movie" without even hinting at what the movie actually is (in the style, themes and genre sense of the word).

Believing in test screenings is probably a joke as well.

Is that a joke?

Because I just read the new batch of test screenings reactions...
What's the joke in trusting a writer/director with mostly fun projects under his name? His worst thing so far doesn't even reach the low of mediocrity.

I think the disappointment for those expecting good things here will be quite painful.
