Shane Black Directing Predator Sequel! - Part 2

Watched this tonight. Meh. Very disappointed, thought with Shane's involvement in the original film that we might have got a return to that kind of form - but what we got is a mess. Ridiculous storyline riddled with plotholes, enough CGi blood to fill a swimming pool and a hulking monster Predator which is totally the opposite of the lithe and agile Predators we've come to know. I don't proclaim to know much about making movies but there's at least 2 or 3 different directions they could have went which would have been better than this.

Can't remember where I saw it now, but I watched a video back earlier this week which claimed a bunch of changes made to the film that, if they'd of gone with the original script, the film wouldn've been much better. Recalled highlights;
  • Dutch arrives in a Helicopter at the end and informs [the team] that there's an ongoing war between Humans and Predators
  • There's a faction of Predators working with Humans (the one that arrives is among them); though it's unclear why he kills those soldiers at the start
  • The Hybrid Predator's mission is to actually wipe out all the other Predators on Earth (the ones helping us)
  • That exo suit didn't exist
  • There's a scene between Munn and that guy who was charged/cleared of sexual assault allegations
  • The initial escape scene was filmed in the day, but Black wanted to reshoot it at night
...and that's all I remember. Sorry if already posted.

I'm sure that went down well with the Production Team.

'Right are you sure you want to see people escaping in the day time Shane, when it's bright and sunny'.

'Yes, I do'.

'Are you absolutely sure, cos we can film this at night when they won't be seen and they can escape with less fuss, you know, we're okay with that'.

'No, I'm sure, shoot it'.

*Sequence is shot*

'Oh wait, people don't usually escape burning objects when they are on the run in the daytime do they ?'

'No Shane, they don't. You've done this directing bit before ? Right ?'

'Oh yes. Lots. I directed Iron Man 3 with that wonderful piece of mis-direction with Mr Kingsley'.

'Re-set. Nightime Folks. Now !!'

May I just say, now that was a Predator movie I enjoyed. And of course, they snack a little Alien surprise there at the end, for us AvP lovers. Sprinkles means business. Ho, Ho, Ho, MOFO's.

They should have chosen the Ripley ending, it would have been the rotten cherry on top of the poop cake.

So... hmm... New news. They filmed 3 alternate endings for the last Movie, and in one of the endings, Ripley from Aliens was inside the Pod. How even...

Alternate Ending of The Predator Was Filmed Featuring Ripley!

FYI, it was Breanna Watkins, a stuntwoman, as Ripley. Not only that, but she's wearing a Weyland/Yutani breathing mask that looks like a ****ing facehugger. Why? Just why?! What kind of qualudes were they doing to arrive at this decision?

Seriously, they actually designed breathing masks that basically resemble the Facehugger Xenomorph. WTF?!

Even Arnold was smart enough to avoid this and they never filmed that scene with Dutch.

I'm still confused, if Earth is about to become wiped out due to global warming, how does a Predator suit help the human race?

I mean literally over half the first movie is set during the bright of day and it still works. They reshot the climax at night and it looks like garbage. I wonder why.

From what I've read, Arnie was only not involved because his portrayal (as Dutch) was only ever going to be a small one. He'd of probably wanted a significantly larger amount of screen time for him to feature. I doubt it had anything to do with the script.

Even if it was because the role is too small, he still dodged a bullet for once.

While I didn’t like the movie much, I finally caved it and bought the 4K Steelbook blu-ray today just to have in the collection.

And with that said, I’m actually ready for another cycle of drama while we wait for another crappy movie to get green-lit. And for once, I think a female Pred and a new environment/era would be the start of a fresh take.

They should finally give us a period piece and for once have the Predator get away.

Just dumb. The timeline doesn’t work. And clearly they wanted to nail it over the head with the face higher mask.

Better twist would have been giving us a Terminator endoskeleton.

So.. between this movie (The Predator) and Alien: Covenant, which one is the worst ? (Haven't seen either of the two but I have watched all trailers for the two)

10 years ago, before Terminator: Salvation, I would’ve argued that that should never happen.

But after getting the movies we’ve gotten from these last three franchises since then, I’m just gonna say screw it and make a movie with all three of them.

They can start off with a Terminator trying to go back in time and a Resistance fighter messes up the calculations. They end up in a planet where Pred’s are hunting Xeno’s and go from there. Hell, transport Kyle Reese and Resistance fighters meeting up with Hicks and some CM’s since it’s an alternate universe too. It really can’t get much worse than it is right now anyway.

I would say The Predator is the worst of the two. I even find the first AvP to be better.
Just my opinion of course.

I hate them both for betraying what their franchises were all about but I agree. With Covenant there was at least a felt effort to make a reasonable and good film. The Predator almost feels deliberately bad.

The Predator just felt like a bad rehash of much of Shane Blacks previous work.

Covenant was mostly boring (Fassbender androids random pipe blowing lesson ) and unimaginative.

I think Covenant was worse because it strayed so much further from the original material than The Predator did. Sure The Predator was a disappointment but it mostly kept in line with the Predator. A lot of it could have been kept if they just rewrote the worst parts of it.

Covenant all but abandoned the xenomorph to focus on David the android and how much he enjoys playing god. It only had the protomorph as much as it did because Prometheus was devoid of them and fans wanted them back, being the entire purpose of the franchise. Then in the last five minutes there is a proper xenomorph before going back to David playing god again.
