Shane Black Directing Predator Sequel! - Part 2

Someone should photoshop that Josh Trank tweet to make it look like Shane Black did it insteaed.

This I don't buy. You don't work on a movie for years of your life just to stick it to a franchise you hate. This just sounds like fanboy anger boiling to the surface. I think Black was definitely making a movie he thought was good. It just turned out wrong for the property he was working on. It happens.

I believe Shane Black would.

Plenty of people in entertainment world have spent years of their lives working on shows and things they hate or aren't passionate about.

I would watch a Director's Cut for this movie, for sure. Some of the stuff the article points out does smell like interference or getting out a subplot and such.
Oh damn, not again.

I'm not encouraged. What they originally had doesn't sound much better. That includes riding with Predators in an APC.

Apparently the budget here was $88 million.

Absolutely no reason is given. There is suggestion that humans are an endangered species and that's why but it's never really said. Not to mention the Predator trying to save humanity is still pretty much killing anyone it can find. It's all ridiculous garbage nonsense. Just like Olivia Munn's performance, the kid and pretty much everyone else in this giant flaming turd.

I truly believe Shane Black has secretly loathed and hated Predator for the last 30 years and really just wanted to destroy this series for good.

He doesn't know how to shoot the creatures either.

That's how Rian Johnson's Last Jedi felt to me. Like a Star Wars movie by someone who doesn't even like Star Wars.

Sorry Vile, this is a theory I just cannot buy into. This just sounds like sour grapes to me. I am not defending the movie, but I don't know many people who would spend years of their lives for purposeful sabotage. Especially for a franchise that was basically dead since 2010. Shane Black made a bad movie. There is no grand conspiracy on his motives. I know as a sane human being I would not turn down films I actually want to do in order to resurrect a dead franchise that I want to destroy just so I can laugh at its fans (and let's face it...Predator is a known IP but hardly an A-list franchise). Its ludicrous.

It's the only reason I can justify him allowing that horrible ending.

Quite frankly, him doing this movie was a bit of a shock to me. I always got the sense from him he wasn't a fan of Predator.

Why? Based on what exactly?

So, where do we go from here? Will this be the Movie that forces the Studio to reboot the series? Will they actually make a sequel to this train wreck of an ending? Will they wait another decade for a sequel and just ignore this Movie?

I just watched it last night in IMAX. Best Predator movie since the first. Honestly it might even be the best character driven, character building Predator movie of all.

If the first one wasn’t so iconic and had Arnie, I would say this is almost at par or even better than he first.

Shane Black made the Predator franchise even better!

As an action movie and Predator movie I give this film

8.5/10

Preferably nowhere. Especially after the way they ended this flaming pile of hot garbage. This franchise needs to put to bed for good. It's worse than where Genisys ended things.

Why does it have to be a question of where we go from here? Why can't things just sometimes end and exist as they are?

I came into the movie with zero expectations. TP was much better than Predators or the AvP films...

I actually cared about the characters for once in a sci-fi horror series...especially when they

Died. Specifically all the crazy loonies from the convict bus

Because it is a franchise and as such there is always an interest where things are going. This isn't exactly anything Earth shattering or new.

Since Disney acquired Fox, they can finally do a crossover Predator vs Boba Fett movie

If this is in fact a franchise, it's one of the worst franchises ever. It's not much of one.

How in the world is it not a franchise? 4 Predator films and 2 crossovers with the Alien series. That is called a franchise by any definition of franchise.

It's definitely a franchise that has struggled to keep going. Still a franchise. The comics and books have done a better job with the material but a lot of it is crap there too. So far outside of Requiem, I have liked all the movies enough to get them on Blu-Ray and watch them several times over.

Though it does feel like there are so many missed oppurtunities with the franchise. They botched AVP putting it in present time instead of the future. Predator 2 is a decent follow up but definitely fitting for the 90's. Predators could have expanded more on their culture and rivalries and the less said of Requiem, the better. Not having seen The Predator yet I can't say what I think of it. Planning to go tonight if possible or tomorrow afternoon otherwise.

The franchise was basically already dead (again) before this one, so why would Black go to the trouble to resurrect a dead franchise just to kill it all over again?

That'd be some potent vendetta.

It's like he really, really hated the franchise so bad he had to bring it back just to kill it again and make extra sure this time it doesn't come back.

Not sure I follow that logic. It's not a slasher franchise afterall.
