Shane Black Directing Predator Sequel! - Part 2

Yes. Yes, now you're getting it! Attaboy.

"Mediocre at best" seems to be the common denominator among the RT reviewers. That's a whole different point on the spectrum to your take on it.

Progress! Nobody's arguing it's not a disappointing movie, a pretty bad one even. You don't have to go full-on salivating Alex Jones with the thing though. Black didn't spend 30 years plotting & scheming some grand revenge over supposedly hating the original, he's not ****ing with the fans, it's simply a case of his movie turning out less-than what we'd have been hoping for.

Life. Goes. On. "Best since the original" is still up and above what we've been getting for 25 years bar one single movie: it's hardly a best-case scenario, but there's likely a couple grins & chuckles to be had throughout. Chillax, as the cool kids say. Or don't.
Dude. He's allowed to intensely dislike it.

This movie was a dumpster fire. Not even good as a Shane Black movie. Unfunny drivel punctuated by nonsenical action.

I didn't like the music. It sounded off frequently when they used the more familiar tunes and goofy when they played the heroic original tune for the third act.

I didn't like how the classic score was used either. It just didn't mesh well with the tone of this movie in my opinion. It felt more natural in Predators and the other movies, but out of place here, especially when you had some really stupid/silly stuff happening onscreen.

So does anyone that’s seen this already think they would’ve enjoyed the original version more before the reshoots? Or would the third act still not be all that great. Cause it seems the first half of the movie is at least some what enjoyable.

i actually liked this movie.... it is the best one after the very first movie..... and its like ironman3 funny too.

So had a good time watching this..

Honestly from what I've read i don't think i would have liked that stuff either. I just don't think the ideas in mind for the film work for what we have seen with Predator. It really felt like some Independence Day: Resurgence type ideas for this.

Disappointing, but fairly enjoyable. Definitely funnier than I expected, this part had me rolling:

Predator using a severed arm to give someone the 'thumbs up' gesture.

I think it would depend on how much of the new third act would affect the first two thirds, because I thought they were equally as bad in terms of editing.

From what I’ve read though, the prereshoot stuff didn’t seem all that great or interesting anyway, at least to me. It most likely would’ve been a better and tighter movie than what we got.

This is by far the weakest of the standalone Predator movies, it was very disappointing imo.

Had a little chat with a friend who recently watched it. He says it doesn't deserve to be called trash.

...

Because trash doesn't actively try to anger you. XD Suffice it to say that he didn't have a good time with it. ='D In his words "However bad you’ve been told it is, it’s worse.". So I jokingly asked "Worse than AvP:R?" And he feels AvP:R was actually more competently made.

But then again, another friend enjoyed it for what it was.

I almost want to go back and rewatch it to see if it could be more enjoyable but I'm not ready to buy another ticket for a movie I wasn't very impressed with.

The part where they had to actually go and make fun of the name "Predator" was one of the most obnoxious and insufferable attempts at "humor" that I've seen in a movie in a long time. And worst of all, THEY KEPT DOING IT and I was going "shut up, shut up, just shut the heck up" in my head every time.

Heck it doesn't even really feel like a Predator movie at all. The tone is off, the pacing is poor, the characters are thinly sketched, the CGI is inconsistent, the humor was poor most of the time and flat-out obnoxious at other times, there's unexplained crap and stupid moments galore, they make the Predators look like bumbling morons frequently, and the changes/retcons to the Predator mythos were stupid imo.

On the flip side, most of the cast were good and they had some decent chemistry, but that's not enough to save this film unfortunately.

Yvonne Strahovski is completely wasted in this film, talk about a thankless role. Also they make a point of getting Gary Busey's son to play the son of his character from the second film, and then they do NOTHING with him, talk about a waste.

That happens so frequently in this movie it feels like they are saving some of it for a sequel. I hate it when movies do that.

Recent clips gave me the impression this will be another Suicide Squad movie, but because the name Shane Black is attached my expectations were of a good Suicide Squad movie.
I think I'll want to rewatch Suicide Squad before I watch this movie.

Seems semi-fair.

Gotta love how he's lamenting all the crazy guys only just being "a quirk" in terms of depth though, like somehow the guys in the Arnold movie were any more than that. :oldrazz: Billy's a cliche Indian tracker, Blaiine's a giant macho badass d*ckhead, Hawkins is a dirty-mouthed signals operator, Weathers is the formerly-decent-dude turned ruthless CIA guy, Arnold's a pair of testicles with a gun.

Characterization has been two-dimensional in these since the start.
How do you know it's semi-fair?

I thought, "Wow, this proves more than anything they studied our social behaviour". :funny:

But they got the point. He's not a predator, he's a trophy hunter. :funny:

Predators still kill prey they don't eat and play with their prey. It was a stupid conversation.

No duh. We just don't need a thirtieth variation on "it's cinematic holocaust" every third post over multple pages. Point's driven home.

It's a tough call. Maybe there's a more complete version of this movie out there that exists that's way more cohesive and better explains the things that make no sense and is better edited.

At the same time, the other big idea they cut was to have the US military Predator allies apparently working for Edward James Olmos. That also sounds ridiculous.

But they got the point. He's not a predator, he's a trophy hunter. :funny:

I wouldn't mind to get a Movie that does away with all the honor nonsense. Well, not really nonsense. Of course there are multiple Predator clans and I'd assume each clan has their own code of conduct. But the first Predator wasn't exactly honorable. Though I guess there are two ways you can interpret the Predator's actions when he fights Dutch unarmed. You can view it as the Predator wanting a fair fight, even though Dutch wouldn't have a snowball's chance in hell to survive a fist fight with a Predator. Or you can view it as the Predator just wanting to prolong Dutch's suffering, because he's been such a pain in the ass to kill. I mean the frikkin' Predator keeps pummeling and beating him to a bloody pulp, instead of finishing the fight off right then and there. And only when he assumes Dutch's spirit is completely broken, he goes in for the kill.

See I actually agree with this. The cast isn't really the problem, but the writing definitely is. The chemistry was there and some of the back and forth did manage to get a chuckle or two out of me from time to time, but once this movie gets to the second half that's when the jokes just stop being funny and the movie really becomes a mess IMO. Sterling K. Brown and his group of military frat boys were some of the most cartoony, human villains I have ever seen. None of that stuff was good at all.

This film made me chuckle. However, my mind was somewhere else while watching this. Its not every engaging I suppose.
