Shane Black Directing Predator Sequel!

I think people are taking the word "reboot" far too seriously, especially since Black actually did a script rewrite for the first film.

Anyway, pretty cool news though I'm more interested in The Nice Guys & Doc Savage.

Why on earth does Predator need to be rebooted-?

It's not as if there's a long, complex storyline. You can watch any Predator movie and easily follow it without having seen the others. They all stand alone perfectly well.

No, I bet what we'll actually see is a remake of the original. If as Predators wasn't remake enough. Yawn.

Here are five better ideas off the top of my head than remaking the original classic Predator;

- Predator lands at sea and attacks a Conquistador ship in the 15th century
- Predator in the arctic tracking explorers
- Humans on the Predator homeworld
- Predators hunting an undersea treasure hunting party (Predators underwater! Fighting sharks! And octopuses!)
- Predator captured by humans and experimented on/rehabilitated - what rights would an alien being have on earth? More sci-fi than action.

How about having it set in the not too distant future where the Predator(s) is hunting some resistance soldiers only to arrive to find its quarry wiped out by a Terminator and we end up with some awesome Predator vs. Terminator action.:oldrazz:

"reboot" is kind of a looser term these days. Technically Predators was billed as a "reboot." But in reality is was simply a sequel to the first (and maybe the second) film. They even reference the events of the first film. Terminator Genesis is being billed as a "reboot." But it appears to be more of a mash-up sequel/prequel/reboot. I wouldn't be at surprised if this movie is something similar.

Predators was a sequel.

It used the same continuity as Predator and Predator 2.

The goal should be to expand the mythose in creative and fun ways, not start from scratch.

I really doubt it's a reboot. Why would they need to reboot when there's little connection between the films & the last film did well both financially/critically?

You guys are not getting. Even the 'trades' guilty of misusing the word 'reboot'. For God's sakes, the trades even used the word reboot for the new Cliffhanger which was one movie.

Step up for the Predator franchise. Step down for Black. I'd rather him do something original.

Black is a not a pus.. who likes to please fans by giving him the movie they wanted. he will try something different.

i expect a very entertaining and original movie. and of course angry fanboys haha.

I would much rather see a sequel to "Predators".

What if Shane Black wouldve directed one of the Expendables. That would've been some sh** to see

If he did that i would actualy see the new film, the last 2 films have been kinda weak.

Did you even read that guy's post? He didn't contradict any of that, he pretty much said the same you did in fact.

Why reboot? Why not just make a sequel?

There is still many things to explorer and expand upon with the predator mythology which you can do within the continuity of the previous three films.

My thoughts too. Sounds cool to me.

As long as he does this after The Nice Guys I'm fine with it. This is great news, yet a part of me wishes he was saved for Die Hard.

With Shane Black involved I have a glimmer of hope this will be good.

And this may or may not be a reboot. It's just the way articles keep phrasing it.
There's no word on if the new film will tie into the existing franchise in any way, or when Black will shoot the project as his original screenplay "The Nice Guys" is tipped to begin production this Fall.

I’m over the concept of the first film being repeated in the films. I’d like something like the Concrete Jungle video game, with the story from the perspective of the Predator, not the humans. Like taking on the mafia in a futuristic landscape, regaining his honour.

An actual reboot would be completely stupid and pointless. I've been down on Fox's stupidity for awhile, but I can't imagine they'd be moronic enough to think the Predator slate needs wiping clean for God sake.

In this case, I think reboot = "We're giving Black the keys to the franchise to do as he will" which means it will be awesome, but also kind of sucks as I loved Predators and was hoping for something else drawing from that.

Also Iron Man 3 kicked ass. Neener neener.

Seems a bit unnecessary. I mean, they left the franchise on a cliff-hanger in Predators. They couldn't at least finish that story first before moving on?

If this is just a new Predator movie with new characters and setting, cool. If it's a true remake, jungle and all...what an idiot. I don't see why he would waste his time doing an exact remake when the original is fine and we had a new Predator film a few years back.

Agreed and I think that is what it will be, I just don't see Black wasting his time doing a direct remake. I am hoping they set it somewhere snowy and mountainous!

I wish I could be enthused about this project, even as much I love Fred and Shane's work, they better make this very different from the first film.
