**** yeah, Tom Jane is a great catch for this movie, loved that guy since The Punisher '04. Last good thing I saw him in was The Mist. Though Mutant Chronicles was a guilty pleasure of mine also.

Tom Jane with Arnold as Dutch, and Shane Black directing? Yeah, I could definately get behind that.

He's gonna... talk to the predator?

The dad finds some piece of Predator tech, kid goes snooping, finds a way to activate it and it's a holographic interactive thing with Predator language and it acts as a rosetta stone?

Nailed it.

So like Arrival but with more beheadings.

On paper some aspects of this movie sound awful. Hopefully it translates better to screen.

Hmmmm… Ok then.

It sounds like the rumoured suburban setting could actually be true.

Black debunked that.

EDIT: Black has talked quite a bit about this being a propper blockbuster event movie.

They called me and I was reluctant. I said, "Look. You guys at Fox, I mean, I enjoy these movies, but we've been churning out these AVP whatever, they each cost a certain amount of money, they're okay, but there's no effort to elevate them or make them any kind of an event." They're just sort of another Predator. "Oh, there's another one that came out." They said, "What if we said to you we want to reinvent this, and really treat it with as much of an event status, or as much hoopla as we would the Alien prequel, which is coming out also? We really want to make this something. The kind of movie that people line up for." I said, "Really, you'll spend a bunch of money?" They go, "Yep." I go, "Make it really scale, spectacle?" "Yep." "****, that sounds interesting."

In possibly related news (but just wild speculation on my part)
I think Cowboy Cerrone (UFC fighter) might have a small part in this. He was being interviewed and said something about being in a "remake of a film everybody's seen" and starts filming next month in Cuba, and he sounded really excited about it.

Could very well be something else entirely, but Cerrone is a legit badass and cool as f***, it'd be great to see him as Special Ops soldier #4 on a team that gets ripped apart by the Predator.

Makes sense, there was a casting call some ways back asking for UFC fighters and martial artists as background characters.

I see people getting worried about a kid who can talk to Predators or whatever, I'd just like to point out the idea has been executed well in Guillermo Del Toro's Mimic already.

I hope this role is a career ressurection for Thomas Jane. The man is starring in the biggest sci-fi show on television at the moment but he never really got his due since The Punisher. I still remember him in Deep Blue Sea.

This cast is shaping up great. I just saw Moonlight and Trevante Rhodes was awesome in it. And Jane is a great actor who deserves a career resurgence.

Yeah I hope so too.

I gave "Drive Hard" a few minutes of my life that I'll never get back. Was hoping it would be decent with both he and Cusack.

Jane is the Punisher, no doubt. Looking forward to some better opportunities for him.

Not a fan of the autistic kid angle. I'm guessing there will be a scene where the Predator confronts but doesn't kill him.

Preds don't kill kids or pregnant women, they have a hunting code.

They also don't kill people who are unarmed or who have serious/terminal diseases/medical conditions either.

Rumours/plot details blah blah... you guys know the drill.

Potential Spoilers Ahead

Boyd Holbrook is Lieutenant Quinn McKenna (characters name might change), an elite soldier suffering from serious PTSD now working covert ops around the world. His team is trying to assassinate a drug lord in Cuba when the story begins.

Jacob Tremblay is Rory McKenna. The estranged 12-year-old son of Quinn Mckenna who lives with his mother. He’s an autistic genius who gets bullied at school.

Olivia Munn is Casey Brackett. She’s a science professor at Berkeley who’s an expert in Evolutionary biology. Basically the Amy Adams character from Arrival in the Predator universe.

Sterling K. Brown is CIA Agent Traeger. He works for an off-the-book organization who’s known the Predator’s existence for a while. He captures Lt. McKenna and recruits to help investigate the situation.

The story takes places 30 years after the events of the first and second movies. A predator spacecraft crashes in Cuba during covert ops run by Lt. McKenna. Before being captured by the CIA and Traeger, he sends part of the downed Predator armor by mail to his son Rory.

After the supposedly “comatose” Predator is revived, a race for the missing tech brings all the characters together face-to-face with something much more nefarious… THE PREDATOR 2.0 A ten feet tall genetically enhanced and more advanced Predator who will crash the McKenna family reunion in suburbia.
