Iron Man 3 Shane Black to write/direct?

Yeah, Favreau didn't seem too interested in finishing the trilogy out and I'd rather have a new talented guy who wants to helm it helm it than the regular talented guy who doesn't really want to helm it.

Late to the party but just want to say I'm happy they chose Shane Black to become the new director for Iron Man 3.

Has it actually been announced that he's directing, or is it just rumoured or in negotations at this stage?

SHH still hasn't mentioned it on the front page. Perhaps they're awaiting solid confirmation by Marvel.

And Gwyneth confirmed it on the red carpet last night, so that was surprising.

Deadline said they were in final negotiations with him. So its pretty much a done deal.

I like what I'm hearing. I felt like the Knauf's entire run was Tom Clancy meets Iron Man and seeing as how they did one of the best Mandarin stories ever - yes, very much yes.

I like the idea of the movie being more sel-contained, the Shield/Avengers tie-ins became too distracting in IM2. But no Mandarin again? Dammit.

Where does it say no Mandarin

I think more self-contained is a good idea to a degree. I think you can have mentions of what is going on outside that film in news reels and such (or references) and have people pop in for a few secs without it taking over the film. You don't have to go as far as IM2 did to still play around with cameos.

This is fantastic news. :awesome::awesome:

They never said anything about no Mandarin. If anything this gives me more hope that Mandarin will be the big bad.

They should borrow from The Haunted storyline that the Knaufs did. Like Upset Spideyfan said, it's Tom Clancy meets Iron Man, with the best take on Mandarin to date.

When he says no more crossovers after Avengers I hope he means that there will be no more crossovers that are automatically expected to happen. I still like that they now have the freedom to do crossovers if it is applicable to the current film but they by no means should ever get to the state where they are expected to happen as a matter of course. They should happen when it makes sense for them to happen, and no other way than that.

I think you also have to take into account the contracts and actor schedules if you, say, wanted Cap in IM3. If it is more than a day or two of shooting, that could get messy when you consider Evans is on a 6 film contract, and prob wants to do more films outside of being Cap all the time. So, filming of an IM3 would be taking place when he is pursuing other stuff or relaxing after filming something. Plus, would a pop in appearance in IM3 count in Evans 6 film contract? If Marvel wants 3 Cap films and 3 Avengers films, then they have to be careful of that (same goes for Hems, of course).

Cameos are a great option, but I can see where it could be hairy.

I like what I'm hearing about the self contained story, thats probably the best way to go really. Also its nice that we have confirmation of his involvement, really looking forward to seeing what comes of this.

Great info.

As much as I'm looking forward to The Avengers, I'm kind of glad Marvel's plan is to go back to films that don't bring in other Marvel characters. It's a nice experiment so far, but I want the focus to be on the hero of whatever movie you're watching.

I like what he has to say. I just hope he's doesn't shy away from the Mandarin for the villain.

Sounds really awesome. I wonder what they mean by "the studio wasn't happy with Iron Man 2" though. It's not like they didn't have any creative control.

I hope we get to see Madame Masque.

Mandarin, Madame Masque, and Ghost would be great if they want real world villains and no more metal men fighting eachother.

Although I wish they would add Fin Fang Foom.

Holly crap,a iron man movie thats about iron man only,it's crazy enough that it might just work.

I know right, the last one I was just hoping for Iron Man vs Whiplash funded by Justin Hammer, not Iron Man and his merry friends who oh I guess should fight Whiplash.

They need to drop War Machine, Widow and just have Fury there for a scene telling Stark intel about Mandarin or the big bad. That's it.

No more bogging down with useless subplots about friends taking suits and becoming superheroes, and other stuff. Iron Man vs Mandarin, that's it.
