Dwayne Johnson is slowly turning himself into the Guillermo del Toro of actors.
The Rock? What? He does not look like a pulp hero from '30s at all.![]()
I'm not familiar with the Doc Savage character so I wouldn't know. I'll leave that discussion to the fans.
I just find it funny how he keeps accepting roles for movies he'll probably never even shoot. I'm not blaming him because, why shouldn't he do it; but again, it's starting to remind me of Del Toro.

It's OFFICIAL: For all comic book fans you already know the world's first superhero (pre-dating Superman) is the "Man of Bronze" himself Clark "Doc" Savage. Want to thank my bud director/writer Shane Black and his writing team Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry for flying in from LA and sitting with me and our @sevenbucksprod's producer @hhgarcia41 on this Memorial Day weekend to chop up creative and break story on this very cool project. Comic book fans around the world know that the cool thing about "Doc" Savage is that he's the inspiration for Superman. First name Clark, called "Man of Bronze", retreats to his "Fortress of Solitude" in the Arctic etc etc. Doc was physically and mentally trained from birth by his father and a team of scientists to become the perfect human specimen with a genius level intellect. His heightened senses are beyond comprehension. He can even identify a women's perfume from half a mile away. He is literally the master of everything. But here's the #1 reason I'm excited to become Doc Savage.. HE'S A *****ING HILARIOUS WEIRDO! Confidently, yet innocently he has zero social graces whatsoever due to his upbringing so every interaction he has with someone is direct, odd, often uncomfortable and amazingly hilarious. After speaking for hours w/ Shane Black I can see why the creator of Superman took only the best parts of Doc Savage and leaving the "weirdo" part behind. But to us, it's that "weirdo" part that makes Clark "Doc" Savage dope! Can't wait to sink my teeth into this one of a kind character. #ItsOfficial #WorldsFirstSuperhero #GeniusIntellect #PhysicalSpecimen #FnLoveableWeirdo #DocSavage
Doc Savage isn't supposed to be socially inept. Reserved and aloof, yes. But also highly educated and well-versed in manners.I'm looking forward to seeing a socially inept Johnson as a superhero no less.

Ah, I see.Inept would be true strong a word then. I'm just going by what I heard Black say about him being this guy who can do anything physically, but when a woman thanks him or interacts with him, he clams up.
Strolling back to the little city beside the golden pyramid, Doc and Renny encountered the attractive Princess Monja Obviously, she had maneuvered this meeting. She was, it could plainly be seen, greatly taken with the handsome Doc. This embarrassed Doc no little. He had long ago made up his mind that women were to play no part in his career. Anyway, his was not a nature to easily lend itself to domestication. So he answered Princess Monja's eager patter in monosyllables, and carefully avoided being led into discussions about how pretty American girls were in comparison to, well - Monja, for instance.
It was not an easy course to take. Monja was one of the most ravishing young women Doc had ever encountered.
The young woman smiled archly at Doc. Obviously she was captivated by the bronze man's manners and unmistakable character. For the last few minutes she had hardly taken her eyes off him.
Doc realized this, but carefully kept his bronze face expressionless. To Doc, young women were something of a problem. There was no provision in his perilous existence for feminine company. It was necessary for Doc to ignore all eligible girls - for the personal safety of the young things, if for no other reason.
Doc's enemies were legion. They would not hesitate to strike at him through a girl whom they thought he liked.
The prettier the young women were, the harder Doc found it to gently repulse them. The more beautiful the girl, the more stunned she was when the bronze man failed to bow before her charms; and the more vigorous her renewed efforts to ensnare him.
Ah, I see.
The reason for Doc's behavior around women is because he had resolved never to fall in love. Here are a few examples from a couple of the novels ("The Man of Bronze" and "Brand of the Werewolf", respectively.)
Perhaps. It depends on how you looks at it, I suppose.I dunno man, that sounds in line with how Johnson described the character (I know nothing f Doc Savage). He intellectualises it as "resolving to never fall in love", but it even says right there that he's embarrassed at the interaction. Picturing The Rock in those scenes seems pretty funny to me.

It's just that when I hear about Doc Savage being portrayed as socially inept, I get nervous that they'll make him utterly clueless around people like Robert Downey Jr's Sherlock Holmes, for comic relief purposes.
