Shang-Chi 2 Discussion Thread

It will be a shame if we dont see another, the first is still easily the best Marvel have done since Endgame. The first is elevated a lot by Tony Leung so he would be a big miss in a sequel but it would have been cool to see where they went with it, doesnt seem like its a priority for Marvel any more though.

At this point, they would need to hire someone else for Shang-Chi 2 to be released in late 2026 or 2027.

It just seems a bit of a waste, the top grossing non sequel Marvel movie of 2021 without a sequel. While Spider-Man 3 and Venom 2 are now both getting a sequel, when they were released after Shang-Chi 1.

I love Shang-Chi more than most and am really pissed off at how much this sequel is seemingly being put off and ignored, but Sony is a different studio with its own priorities. And Venom isn't even an MCU franchise. Those examples really aren't relevant to Shang-Chi.

Since Shang-Chi 1 came out, Sony also released Madame Web, Morbius, Spider-Verse 2 and later in this year Kraven and dozens of non Marvel movies...

The point is if Disney wanted to release a Shang-Chi 2 asap, there's nothing that would stop them from doing it. Other franchise movies like Venom 2 and Spider-Man 3 are now getting a sequel, Sonic 2 too as well. When those movies were released after Shang-Chi 1.

Yeah however you look at it this is a bummer if true

They should've fast tracked the sequel the day the first film came out. If 2024 was Deadpool & Wolverine and Shang Chi 2, it could've been a great rebound year

I feel like with the Multiverse Saga, IF they didn't pursue movies for Black Widow, Eternals, a Captain America legacy movie and Thunderbolts (and also Blade), and if instead they just launched Shang-Chi and Fantastic 4 (the latter was on most wishlists to appear after Endgame aside from the X-Men and Deadpool). These new mcu franchises could be filming their 2quel now or it is already released.

Back in 2021, I thought Shang-Chi 2should have been out by 2024, if not 2025. In 2019, I didn't think we would wait til 2025 for a new Fantastic 4 movie, and thats if, it doesn't move to 2026. And there's the X-Men as well.

It will suck big time if we don't get a Shang Chi 2.
I won't say it would suck big time as Shang-Chi is still a b-tier character from the comics. A 1 and done Fantastic 4 and X-Men movie, those would suck big time.

But no Shang-Chi 2 is a still a missed opportunity. I just hope Marvel Studios doesn't get any ideas about launching a solo movie for Tigra, Ghost Rider, Silver Surfer, Namor, Ka-Zar, Squirrel Girl and another obscure team, before Shang-Chi 2.

I have to wonder if Marvel and Disney just don't consider Shang-Chi 2 a priority. Or perhaps they really want Cretton in particular as the director? Because otherwise, they could just as easily get a different director altogether.

Again, Feige has said they couldn't make a FF movie right away due to legal hurdles.

Its definitely not a priority. If they already hired the director for two other Marvel films.

I don't doubt there'll be a sequel but all signs seem to be pointing towards it not coming until after Secret Wars unfortunately.

I wonder if the pivot from Kang to Doom forced them to maybe go back the drawing board? The rumored subtitle at one point was "Wreckage of Time" and I seem to recall Simu Liu saying that the story they had come up with required it to come post-Avengers 5.

2027 or 2028.

The good news is only Avengers 5/6 and Spider-Man 4, are the only MCU films (as of today) that already have a director and have yet to start to filming.

Now if Blade (again), Armor Wars, Thor 5, Doctor Strange 3, X-Men, etc... get a director before Shang-Chi 2, expect the wait to be longer. But I also think they would really need to hire someone else for it to be released before those films. Destin is unlikely to return to Shang-Chi 2, a year after Spider-Man 4. Who knows how long will he direct his next film after Spider-Man 4? I don't think he directed any film since Shang-Chi 1 came out...

We got a Shang Chi 2 forum sub-section before Marvel Studios set the date!

I was just thinkin' of the Mcu 2026 dates, then noticed the sections for Ant-Man and Captain America were moved to Avengers. And then I got notified about the new sub section for Black Panther 3 and Shang-Chi 2.

It has a likelier chance of happening than Blade or Captain Marvel at the moment. :o

If they go the Agents of Atlas route in the sequel then I would be down for Golden Claw (Plan Chu) as the main villain.
Continue the theme of casting popular Hong Kong film stars as villains and cast either Andy Lau or Anthony Wong as Chu.

I feel like marvel rivals has reallly reinvigorated Iron Fist so seeing him cameo with Shang Chi would be really cool

I hope his appearance in Doomsday, leads to a Shang-Chi 2 movie in late 2026 if not, then 2027!

I just expect these successful cbms to have a sequel, 3 years after the last one. They should have fast tracked it, rather spending time to make Brave New World and Thunderbolts*.

I think Shang-Chi 2 will definitely happen, but I’m predicting 2028, especially if Destin Daniel Cretton is still directing it.

If Marvel decides to move on without him, maybe we could see it earlier, but from everything we’ve heard, it sounds like he still really wants to make Shang-Chi 2.

And since he’s going to be busy with Spider-Man Brand New Day, which is already locked for a July 2026 release, my guess is Shang-Chi 2 won’t come out until 2028. It sucks that it’s such a long wait, but at least we’ll get to see Shang-Chi again in Avengers Doomsday and Secret Wars before then.

Also, based on what Simu Liu said:

“I don’t think anything’s been impacted. I speak to Destin often and there’s nothing coming out of both of us but excitement to make this film.”

To me it sounds like Shang-Chi 2 is still very much alive and in the works. They probably even have a rough idea for what the story could be.

My guess is it’s set for the 2028 slate, with mid to late 2028 seeming like the most likely window.

I think it would happen but I'd only be confident once they are filming.

Inhumans
Blade
Armor Wars

These were already announced before and had their own logo! 7 years since the first solo film is just insanely long. Its crazy they let that happen.
