I think some people are underestimating Chinese box office numbers here.
My guess is $800m worldwide

It has a release date in China? It didn’t last week.I think some people are underestimating Chinese box office numbers here.

The difference with Shang Chi compare to those two,is Shang Chi belongs to a cinematic universe with plenty of ips. I want 2 sequels but I'd believe that happening when this perform at least okay or when Marvel Studios announce a sequel.Cruella and Free Guy are both getting sequels. Shang Chi will do far better than both those movies. The times we're in are different, so expectations will be different as well.
I'm sure Shang Chi will get another movie along with crossovers.

Black Widow. Will definitely get a sequel especially since every mcu movie. Aside from the hulk, has been given a sequel so I don't think that will change anytime soon.
It isn't about how good the film is.The reactions to this movie are simply out of this world, I had a feeling this movie was going to be amazing. I'm already seeing people change their tune, and order tickets.
It's really good that the reactions have highlighted, how amazing the action in the film is. I know that is really going to help Shang Chi, open higher than its opening weekend projection.
I'm sticking with 60-100 million opening weekend.
Those 30m predictions were laughable. It's Marvel ffs
TSS got low numbers because people couldn't care less about yet another DC reboot
Super early but here it is
You know, after all the doom and gloom about it possibly doing as poor as 30-40 million, I'm ecstatic about it being on pace to do 60+ at the moment. If the good word of mouth keeps spreading, maybe it can climb even higher.
The movie also has no comp with Sony moving Venom out of the way. So it could have decent legs as well. Maybe beating Crazy Rich Asians domestic box office is still on the table lol.
I don't have any issue with CRA, I actually like the movie. I just wanted Shang Chi to beat it as a goal for the movie. Would have been easy pre pandemic, but man it's going to take a herculean effort at this point lol.

Over 50 million would be marvelous.
Black Widow.
It isn't about how good the film is.
How comfortable do people feel about returning to theaters?
THAT is the question.
It is the ONLY question that matters.
Eternals can beat Widow if Shang-Chi does 60-70
Over 50 million would be marvelous.
Black Widow.
62 million in this climate would be a GIFT.My range I am going with is 40-60 mil for the OW. Prob somewhere high 50s if I had to commit to a smaller range.
BW had name recognition as a character.Yeah, that movie always had the higher ceiling. Where as Shang Chi is a personal story centered around family and identity, Eternals is a huge sprawling epic that spans thousands of years across human history.
But yeah what you said makes sense. If Shang Chi opens to 60-70, I think Eternals definitely beats BW's OW.
BW had name recognition as a character.
General audiences have never heard of Eternals.
Nobody heard of the Guardians either, but that movie did huge numbers.
Black Widow, like Shang Chi is a personal story that tells a story on a smaller scale. Eternals is a huge sprawling epic with a big ensemble cast and probably bigger bigger stakes like the fate of the world. I think it will definitely have a bigger draw if all things were equal.
