Shawn Ryan and Martin Campbell team up for "Last Resort on ABC"

Terrific pilot!!

Gotta wonder, though, why they would name a Southeast Asian/South Pacific radar outpost a NATO station.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization is an alliance based in the northern hemisphere on the other side of the globe. It has no presence down where this show takes place.

The repeated mentioning of that name puzzled and perplexed me -- they could have easily made up a less-identifiable acronym.

Just watched the pilot, and I thought it was pretty bad. It seemed filled to the brim with cliches and the writing and acting generally ranged from eye-rollingly cheesy to downright awful in spots. Having said that, I like the premise enough to give it another chance with the second episode, but I'm not expecting much.

Finally got around to watching this. Awesome pilot. I can see this show dragging along at some point during the season but it looks like ill be sticking around for now.

While NATO is made up of mostly North Atlantic countries their mission takes them all over the world.
Recently they have had troops in Afghanistan, Libya and Iraq.
They are taking part in Operation Ocean Shield where they protect ships in the Gulf of Aden and Indian Ocean from Somali Pirates.

From Collider:
Bad news again for ABC’s excellent new drama series Last Resort, as the show was down from its disappointing series premiere numbers with a 1.8 rating and 7.87 million viewers.

I guess it will get cancelled :csad:

guess that means we'll never find out what's going on and who and what's behind it all...

great, just frikkin' great... ANOTHER one will probably bite the dust... :cmad:

*throws hands up in frustration*

The special forces guy is already irritating me but the 2nd ep was solid, I'm just not sure the Braugher/Speedman bromance and Autumn Reeser awesomeness can keep this afloat, the other characters are flat.

Well, I made it to episode 3 and haven't quit yet. The whole Washington subplot isn't really gelling with the rest of the show nor is the [blackout]nuking[/blackout] subplot yet but I enjoy the tense moments and character moments. I guess it's somewhat scratching my StarTrek/Battlestar/Stargate itch a bit too in its own way.

From I've read the ratings are down week after week, though maybe that didn't take into account DVRs and online viewing?

I may have said this in here already.... but i think this would have made a great movie plot more than a TV series run...

I agree with you -- the DC segments seem oddly detached from what you would think would be near worldwide hysteria over the nuclear bombing of Pakistan, and the jihad that would unleash on the U.S. and its embassies.

And they don't seem to be dealing with the government conspiracy storyline much . . . yet.

I think the reason the Washington part of the show is struggling to click is the scenes are way too short, I mean this week they could have fleshed it out more and shortened the dull Sub "action".

Yeah it would have also have made a good book.

Just got caught up all the way to episode 4. Hooked like a fish and counting down until Speedman's character ends up in bed with the French chick.

Either I got distracted, or just didn't understand what was going on . . .

. . . but what was the deal with the French dame and her geological testing kit?? I thought she was a radar technician!

So she took soil samples and discovered there was valuable oil (or something) on the island, but lied about it to the bad little self-imposed chief of the island?

Then she and Scott Speedman were standing in sort of the same area near the end of the episode and I thought she was going to let him in on the secret . . . but she just said 'something enigmatic', smiled coyly, and walked away.

Can anybody explain what that was all about?

Its the same island from Lost

Is this show holding in the ratings? I know it started out with a drop. I think it's pretty good, they just need to find more time for the Washington part of the story as the answers are going to come from there.

It seems inevitable Sawyer but given it would make Speedman's character a giant ******* I think they'll have to kill his wife off first or have her turn on him, which seems unlikely.

from what i understand, the ratings have been getting better.... and they have been given another few of episodes on this season run, so the outlook is slightly positive...

next weeks episode looks rather intriguing...

That's good to hear, I'd like the story to have a chance to really delve into the why of the situation.

i hope we do get enough episodes to allow the writers to at least tell us WTF is going on....

ABC has had trouble in that timeslot since it moved Ugly Betty after three seasons there in 2009.

Remember Flash Forward, My Generation, Charlie's Angels (2011) and Missing?

TVByTheNumbers

History:

Last season, Charlie’s Angels lasted 7 episodes going 2.1, 1.5, 1.2, 1.3, 1.3, 1.2, 1.1 [yank] in Last Resort's timeslot.

Two seasons ago My Generation went 1.6, 1.1 [yank] in that slot.

Pan Am lasted 14 episodes on Sunday at 10pm last season, going 3.1, 2.6, 1.9, 1.8, 1.8, 1.8, 1.7, 1.8, 1.5, 1.3, 1.2, 1.2, 0.7, 1.2 [yank]

Present:

666 Park Avenue has gone 2.1, 1.7, 1.5.
Last Resort has gone 2.2, 1.9, 1.6., 1.7

DVR usage seems to be up across every network show this year but Last Resort basically can't dip any lower. It will probably air until the end of January and then be cast aside for Red Widow. ABC has a very short bench this year, they only have 3 midseason dramas and Wife Swap to fill any cancellations. Oh and Modern Family reruns for their comedies. So they're in no rush to cancel Last Resort but they're likely not giving it a full season order or even renew it for a second season. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Private Practice will only air 13 episodes, likely replaced by Mistresses
666 Park Avenue likely replaced by Zero Hour
Last Resort likely replaced by Red Widow

Oh well. :( I just saw the trailer for Red Widow, I can't believe they cast Anson Mount and killed him off in the first episode.

Damnit i dont want this show canceled. I havent had this kind of fun since Battlestar Galactica.

I read that this show is bringing in men, which is something most ABC shows don't, so that's something........ right? :csad:
