Well, I looked at some of the box office collections of kids movies, granted that they need to be adjusted for inflation but just to give an idea, Shazam is not performing like those..Well if Shazam is playing more like a Kids/family film, It's because WB marketed it that way.
"Family family family".
"A movie you can take your kids to".
We heard those types of things constantly in the marketing.
Not the publics fault if they followed suit.
