Shazam Shazam General Discussion and Speculation - Part 2

Almost a day later and I'm still buzzed about Aquaman and Shazam! trailers. :D
Get ready for inevitable 'child abuse' jokes in the future whenever Captain Marvel/Billy or any Marvel family member get hurts in either form.

Grace Randolph actually brought forth a great speculation.

Given Billy Batson based on the footage isn't much of a superhero fan, he's "too cool" for that, his Superman-inspired alter-ego is supposed to look & feel corny. Freddy's the one trying to break him out of that comfort zone.

It's kind of cool that Freddy is superhero obsessed because it's a different take on the whole, are these people dangerous tone that seems to be in superhero films, not just DC. People are rightly concerned about superheroes but on the other end of the spectrum, there must be people who think they're cool and aspire to be like them

The new 52 version of Billy is obvious what this is, and he's a lot more cynical than his original incarnation. He still helps people but he's kind of a dick.

I saw the Shazam trailer and it was funny as hell but it also had the superhero vibe to it but also like a Tom Hanks Big quality to it as far as Billy turning from a kid into a fully grown adult by saying one key word and he turns into a superhero and discovering his powers...I wonder why the other foster kids weren't seen in the trailer or why they haven't come into their powers either

That's disappointing. I prefer the very honest and cheerful version who doesn't show signs of being rude, like he did when laughing at the name of the wizard.

That's barely being rude. He's just not Freddy or Holland Spidey-tier enthusiastic outside of the Shazam persona.

This trailer had a Spider-Man Homecoming meets Big type of feel to it...Shazam pretty much is the Spider-Man Homecoming of the DCEU if you really think about it

I think that's the reaction one would normally have if someone forces you to say some silly word and imply that it's important that you say it.

So Barry is like Holland Spidey in Civil War, Billy is that character from Homecoming.
I hope we don't get an equivalent to Infinity War Spidey in a future DCEU film.

Perhaps, it still feels a bit rude to burst out laughing like that.

Wasn’t feeling this movie at all until the trailer. It was surprisingly good. I have a few problems with it, which I won’t get into now, but it did a great job of making the movie look interesting in its own right.

Big kudos to the Freddy actor. He gave the trailer people really good stuff to work with.

We did see the rest of the Shazam family in the dining room. We also saw Mary outside the school when Freddy got bullied.

And they're probably keeping their adult counterparts outside of trailers/marketing.

Don't know if this has been posted before, so..

But...but...they need to give everything away in the first trailer!!!!1!!!

The transformation from Billy to Shazam is done really well in the trailer.

I don't think the family was focused on because they want you to know Billy/Shazam & his best friend Freddy first. I'm pretty sure the 2nd trailer will focus on everyone.

DC tried to come up with something against deadpool but unfortunately failed miserably.

:whatever:

I swear, everyone's knowledge of Superheroes nowadays comes from what they watch in theaters.

"WB saw Deadpool and since they don't have a Deadpool they made it up with Shazam"

Despite the fact that Captain Marvel has been around since Superman and was at one point, popular than him.

Guess he can't wear a Flash shirt, to avoid confusion. :o

Lol and no Cyborg shirt because, well...he's lame.

It's a silly nitpick, but i really can't get over them using official movie merchandise inside a movie. I wish they had their own version of the s hield and batman shield etc for their own merch - it looks like they are comic book fans who happens to be a real life hero.

It's like, if we had super heroes, for sure we would have merchandise but at least think outside the box to how we would handle it, then translate it to their world. A bit like UFO and alien merchandise and also, why is there a toy of superman with the red pants???

They do that in comics all the time though. Characters wearing real life merch.

Crazy that the movie is a year away. That means it's missing a lot of its effects. I think his chest piece is going to have an animated lightning effect.

David F. Sanberg already promised that Billy won't be a 'huge d--khead'.
I do hope that he meant it and not a playword of 'not a huge d--khead, but just a d--khead.' :funny:

What I got from the trailer was that Billy is a loner, not trusting anyone and not ready to open his heart yet. He ran away from 6 foster houses before and we don't know exactly why. Maybe he just need the right family to tear down the walls.
Defrosting the ice prince or whatever that called. It seems to be designed for some character development action.

But maybe his Captain Marvel self is actually his true self unleashed. And later he'll be as cheery.
From some clip of Andi Mack, Asher excels at playing happy goofy cheery kid, definitely want something similar like that for Billy. :D

I do agree that Billy laugh more because of the idea of sudden magical power from weird magic word but the trailer edited it for a punchline about 'Shazam' that seems sound silly.
Plus, unlike Freddy, he doesn't seem particularly enthusiastic about whole superhero stuff or superpowers.

But I don't know why he is appears so stubborn or almost passed like a skeptic even though the subway train transported magically to strange place. And live in a world that superpowered beings exist nonetheless. :funny:

Ah, I forgot to say that while I hoped that whole Marvel family appeared at SDCC panel, I'm glad that for now the panel, trailer and marketing are more focused and contained.
They're saving up more characters and surprises for later.

Funny how it's the adult that is acting more goofy in the trailer. Billy was always a serious kid, I thought. Had a lot of troubles. Guess being Zachary I mean Shazam frees him up a bit?

I just rewatched the trailer and Billy showed hints or cocky sarcasm to the bullies, so yeah i think naturally being shazam makes you hyped and feel indestructible. It lines up.

They do that in comics all the time though. Characters wearing real life merch.

They did that in TASM2 and a child dressed like Iron Man in a MCU film so it's not unusual and I imagine it's cheaper for WB to use existing merchandise that create fake ones for one movie.

Aside from the plastic look to 'Shazam!' I thought it the trailer was great. I feel after JL there's been a clean slate. I went in to WW with intense worry (it turned out a bit generic but overall good) but saw JL begrudgingly (and did not enjoy).

Right now, I'm mixed on Aquaman but SHAZAM!, I think think WB/DCEU has a hit on their hands (I also think the animated Teen Titans flick will do well too). Loved the tone, felt balanced, loved the naivete of CM kind of had a Spidey "I'm new to this" type of feel. I feel nothing but joy and and am looking forward to seeing the next trailer the film!
