Shazam Shazam General Discussion and Speculation - Part 2

I know IT was shot two years ago but Jack Dylan Glazer has really grown which isn't too shocking considering he's 14. Asher Angel still looks relatively young despite being the same age

The ONLY issue I have with it all, and it's no biggie, I am sure it will work itself out over the film, but I would buy Jack as the younger Zach more than I do Asher.

This.

Let's say in real life that Asher Angel had Jack Dylan Grazer's personality and vice versa. Now since they wanted Freddie to feature more, would they have cast Asher Angel as Freddie instead, or would they still have cast him as Billy (because he looks more like Levi)?

Personally I would've gone for someone who looks less like Levi but acted more like him than someone who looks like him but has a different personality.

They did that in TASM2 and a child dressed like Iron Man in a MCU film so it's not unusual and I imagine it's cheaper for WB to use existing merchandise that create fake ones for one movie.

As i said, it's nitpick, but i would have rather they tried to be original... it wouldn't have cost an arm and a leg, just contract some half decent custom figure makers or some bad ones and say the kids made these out of crappy marvel toys ;)

I really enjoyed the trailer, it reminded me of the 80s film "Big" but with superpowers lol.

I did chuckle that this trailer was very similar to the Aquaman trailer (almost beat for beat, the kid bullies were a big stand out). I wonder if it was cut by the same DC/WB editor.

Jack was my top choice for Billy after seeing IT.
Asher has grown on me since he was cast and especially after the trailer but I still would have preferred JDG.
Glad he has what looks like big part in the movie though:D

I think it’s kinda cool that they used existing merch.
I remember as a kid I’d want things that looked exactly like what I saw in the movies. It would always be disappointing to realize that it was just something made for the movie :funny:

Kids have access to things they’ll see in this movie.
They can have a lot of the same things that Freddie has.

DC's Deadpool is Harley Quinn. Shazam is more like DC's Spider-man. Failed miserably? The movie didn't even come out yet. Some people are nuts lol

You can’t really believe that Shazam is supposed to be DC’s Deadpool.
That’s ****ing ridiculous. :funny:

DC were trying to make their version of Iron Man and the result was Wonder Woman. The first thing they should've done to be like Iron Man was to cast someone who was a man. :o

This looks like a really fun movie, can't wait!

Here's the original Big trailer from the 80s:

Maybe it would've been cool to have Tom Hanks or Elizabeth Perkins cameo in a role in this movie. Not sure who as, but as a nod to Big. Unless that would be too on the nose.

I think Billy tap dancing on the piano is more than enough of a nod :woot:

Captain Marvel was around like 4 decades before Big. That movie should've had a CM figure in it somewhere as an homage, not the other way around, lol.

https://pursuenews.com/shazam-dr-sivanas-new-version-of-backstory-revealed/

Finally, the first trailer for Shazam! is here but we don’t get to see a lot of Mark Strong as Thadius Sivana except for a shot of the villain facing off Shazam. Fortunately, EW’s recent Comic-con Bonus issue shared some insight on Dr. Sivana’s backstory.

We all know that Dr. Sivana is a mastermind villain who can be compared to the likes of Lex Luthor. Though in the comics, Dr. Sivana only has the power of science at his disposal. The movie version has given him an upgrade and has also made changes to his backstory.

In this new version, Dr. Sivana also encountered the Wizard when he was a kid but it doesn’t look like things went his way as after being rejected, Sivana spends his life searching for a way to gain the abilities of Shazam!. It seems like his search for power comes from his desire to live up to the expectation of a domineering father.

Though rejected by the Wizard, Dr. Sivana still seems to have other abilities up his sleeves as the article states that he also acquires magical powers. While the trailer doesn’t show the villain using his magic abilities, some of the set photos did show him take on Shazam! and also have the upper hand against the superhero.

In the new 52 continuity, Dr. Sivana got a slight upgrade as one of his eyes had the ability to see magic. The trailer confirms that the villain’s right eye will grant him this ability. but it looks like the movie version goes a step ahead and grants him the power to use magic as well. It will be interesting to see what form of magic Dr. Sivana will use against Shazam! in the movie.

any examples?

Moviemasters or perhaps re-action could have easily made a toy line based on the toys we saw in shazam... another marketing miss. I just feel it's too self aware (and cheap) to use toys based on movies in that actual universe etc. anyways..

So how does this franchise work if they want to do sequels and the kid playing Billy Batson continues to get older?

I saw the Shazam trailer and it was funny as hell but it also had the superhero vibe to it but also like a Tom Hanks Big quality to it as far as Billy turning from a kid into a fully grown adult by saying one key word and he turns into a superhero and discovering his powers...I wonder why the other foster kids weren't seen in the trailer or why they haven't come into their powers either

Probably because it was a first trailer? Maybe? It's obvious there is still tons to finished in this film. This was a taste a very, very preliminary taste. Have you not seen this type of teaser before? And before anyone brings up Aquaman that film has only five months until release. For all intents that movie is in post production with the finishing touches etc. being locked in or refined. Not so with Shazam.

People it's obvious where this movie is at in terms of completion so expect things like more action and other characters showing up and being introduced to the audience in later trailers.

I swear... EVERY SINGLE TIME.

First trailer drops that shows bare minimum. Fanboy online reaction as thought this were the first time they had ever seen or heard of the concept of a trailer: "Why didn't that show me the film in it's entirety?!!"

Or...

First trailer drops revealing more than the bare minimum. Fanboy online reaction as though this were first they have ever seen or heard of a trailer: "What? They showed me the film in its entirety! Who is telling you to do that?!"

Asher Angel looks like he’ll be able to play younger for a while.
They could get two more movies with him and keep him under 18.

It’s not like he’s gonna suddenly be Levi’s age.

It’s really ridiculous.
You even see it coming from the same people over and over :funny:

Freddie's shirts.

I wonder how this will be explained. I can get behing merch for Supes and Batman since they have been around for quite a while but how does someone like Aquaman get a t-shirt with his own logo on it? Was he ever even out much in the public during JL to be caught by cameras and what not?

Also, that kid has a Certificate of authenticity card among his stuff, I wonder what it's for.

Back in my day, we only got to see trailers in the cinema prior to the main feature, none of this 24 hour internet malarkey, count yourselves lucky.

That was a great trailer!

Didn't know what to expect but was pleasantly surprised. The movie comes off to me as a superhero version of Big

It's a silly nitpick, but i really can't get over them using official movie merchandise inside a movie. I wish they had their own version of the s hield and batman shield etc for their own merch - it looks like they are comic book fans who happens to be a real life hero.

It's like, if we had super heroes, for sure we would have merchandise but at least think outside the box to how we would handle it, then translate it to their world. A bit like UFO and alien merchandise and also, why is there a toy of superman with the red pants???
There was Superman and Batman merch in Suicide Squad. The only Batman merch shown in Suicide Squad wasn't based on his DCEU look. So I think more of the heroes might have become a little bit more public during the events of JL due to the Superman resurrection happening out in the open. Which would probably explain why Freddie has a DCEU accurate Batman toy and an Aquaman and a Wonder Woman t shirt. I think he doesn't have a Cyborg shirt because he was the only hero in JL that didn't have a logo on his body.
