C'mon, Daniel Day-Lewis is a credible, serious actor. He's not pretentious. So he's picky about his roles, so what? Is Cate Blanchett pretentious? Is James Dean pretentious? I mean, c'mon, these are great actors who are creating art in their field. Of course Guy Ritchie wants DDL, everyone does, but Guy Ritchie makes complete s**t. He doesn't deserve DDL and, frankly, DDL should be doing more "self-important" movies and giving us more classic performances, not wasting his time playing a one-dimensional role in a s**t Guy Ritchie movie.

If you think his movies are complete sh**, then why even come into this thread? Obviously, the majority of us here like his movies (or at least Sherlock Holmes)... do posters like you just get off on annoying people?

And as far as Day Lewis only picking great movies... there are a lot of people out there who thought Nine was horrible.

Nine was horrible. It was crap. And i honestly feel DDL decided to do that film because he thought he'd get an award out of it. "Oh i'll do this film and learn Italian! The Academy love stuff like that!"

Don't get me wrong i think he is a fantastic actor. But a lot of the time i do get that "award hunting/oscar bait" vibe from him.

Yep. And hey, the guy is entitled to do what he wants... however, unless every single movie he does is universally praised by critics and audiences alike, he is being a bit arrogant if he thinks that certain movies are beneath him.

Totally agree with you but I've got to point out that DDL already knew Italian, given that he retired from acting for a brief period to become an cobbler in Italy. :D

Haha, no worries.

One has to learn new things on here to offset agaisnt the things you forget as a result of the brain-damagingly stupid posts you read on these boards from time to time. :D

haha yea i've only been here a little while and i can feel my brain cells dying slow and painful deaths!

I know DDL is a brilliant, credible, serious actor. But so is the likes of Gary Oldman. So is the likes of Morgan Freeman. So is the likes of Bob De Niro. So is the likes of Tom Hardy if you wanna talk newer generation.

But they still have fun with their roles and appear in more light hearted movies.

Daniel Day Lewis is pretentious. You just know that Kirk Lazurus from Tropic Thunder was taking the piss out of him. The thing that annoys me about DDL is he seems so picky because he wants roles that give him the best chance for awards. I sometimes get the feeling he doesn't do it for the "art". Especially with Nine.

So wait, wait, wait... are you saying Lock Stock, Snatch and Sherlock Holmes are ****? Wha...? That's just baffling. Lock Stock and Snatch are brilliant character movies with ace interwoven stories, direction and editing styles. RocknRolla was great too, but not as good as those.

And Sherlock Holmes? I thought it was great. Again, a brilliant directing and editing style. Some great character moments and great performances. I mean hell, Ritche made Jude Law relevant again.

If you don't like Ritchie or his work on Sherlock Holmes what are you even doing in this thread? Just trollin? lol
Well, I don't agree with DDL picking roles just for awards, I think he does pick roles for the art, it just so happens that those are the kind of roles that get awards. It's the ones who give the awards who are the pretentious ones. They should give awards to all kinda of films.

But yeah, you're right, why am I here? I hate Guy Ritchie, so I'll leave. I hate it when people come into threads just to hate, so I'll stop. See ya :)

Methinks Krod2 is a massive Merchant Ivory fan.
LOL, not at all actually.

I hope the username Krod isn't referring to that Comedy Central show.

truth

and I've always wondered about the bold, pathetic down to the letter

Lewis isn't pretentious. He does things that interest him. Roles that he can sink his teeth into and be will be committed to. He takes acting seriously, as an art. And he shows it. Not to mention he's one of the best actors who has ever lived, of course he will get award attention. Awards recognize people who give good performances. Lewis does just that. If he doesn't want to do Holmes, fine. I don't think he thinks they're beneath him. They just don't interest him. That's it. I think people sometimes get confused with being pretentious and just not being interested in something.

Why does that show he is full of himself? He wants a great actor in one of his movies... what's the problem?

If anyone is full of themselves it's Daniel Day Lewis.

I don't think DDL is full of himself. The guy just gives his family precedence over taking more movie roles, there's nothing wrong with that at all.

I don't know why someone would call him pretentious either, is it because he's a method actor? Well guess what, RDJ is a method actor as well, so does that make him pretentious?

Anyway, on topic, I'm a fan of Guy's work. I really liked Snatch, Lock Stock, RocknRolla and Sherlock Holmes. He's a very stylish director and you can tell that his cast always have a blast making films with him.

She deserves it. Her role in Dragon Tattoo was the first powerful and interesting female character on film in a long time.

So this is taking place across Europe and Mycroft will appear? I kind of wished he would be in the third film instead. I hope they go to France.

Never seen Dragon Tattoo, (heard bad things about it from my sister and we have simular taste in films so I'm in no rush to watch it) so I can't judge her acting one way or the other but I'll say this, I hope that she is better than McAdams was in the first flick.

Interesting to see that Noomi picked a role in SH2 as her english language debut, but hope she does well as she did in her swedish films.

She's the standout of the film. The rest of the film is okay, but she makes it worth watching.

From THR
The logline is being kept under wraps, although it is known Holmes will face off against Moriarty. Also making an appearance will be Holmes' brother, Mycroft.
So Moriarty and Mycroft are both in this, nice.

Let me guess, Holmes brother is killed by Moriarty sometime during the film and he must get some sort of revenge.
