This is according to some guy who asked THC a few questions regarding SM3... this is by no means a guarantee... just throwin it out there before we get a million threads on it when we do get confirmation:

I think it makes perfect sense to open the movie with a relatively well known classic (although updated) villian that Spidey can take out with a quickness. You get the story started off with a bang and get to throw another villian into the mix without having to develop him. I love it.

I always figured that the movie would open with a cameo villain. Then when we heard that there was going to be a fourth villain I figured we'd get:

-Shocker
-Rhino
-Vulture
or
-Beetle

THere is no sand at the bank scene... he was talking about the sand in the truck
