No. I am against it. It's too much. Kids should be allowed to have identities and express themselves. And it is a form of self expression and not an expresion of how much wealth their parents have. My mother wasn't wealthy. She wasn't even middle class, but the clothes I made due with were an expression of myself and who I was.

And for the most part I don't think clothing makes much of a difference in who gets picked on. It's more about physical appearance such as breast size, obesity, height, and symetrical facial features. IN some instances "nerds" get picked on because of the way they dress, but they like dressing that way. Obviously it's an expression of who they are. Some people like to make a statement about themselves with their clothes. Some people like to stand out. And some people like to blend in.

This is just another example of people trying to make everybody conform to the norm, and fighting diversity.
:up::up::up::up::up::up:kids have identities too.....they can express themselves A++

And thats fine.....but I've seen film where a regular T-shirt and jeans held over 75 different weapons.........in the high school I work in daily.....sorry.......but I don't want anything oversized......they want to put that on afterschool, and their parents want to pay for it........thats their choice at that moment......and actually, fr about it....from what I've seen, theres only a few that really *****, and I don't think the rules of a school should be dictated by a few.....in all of these cases in my district....the parents gave their opinions through a survey sent home, and the overwhelming majority opted for standardized dress....they are given 10 different colors of Polo's, and 4 colors of slacks....every Friday is jeans day....as well as the weeks of finals......we have never allowed earrings on guys etc...even though many teachers, myself included, have wanted that out of the school dress code....it has not been taken out.....we had a few gripe, quit, move, try to stage a walk out etc.....but the majority have gone with it.....and its just not that big of a deal........do I want a full on national ruling....hell no......but it works for my district and others.....

guns can fit in back packs and lockers as well. A kid could even hollow out a book and put a pistol in there.

And there is a differnce between standardized dress and uniforms. Standardized dress means no see through shirts. It doesn't mean eveybody wears the same shirt. Support for a dress code is a far cry from uniforms. In my state everytime they have done this poll only like 20% of the people support it.

People got their whole life to wear uniforms. Let kids be kids for at least part of their life.

yes... kids can still express themselves by other means then their clothes...

it save parents money in the long run not having to buy gajillion different matching or unmatching depending on your kids taste clothes...

plus most jobs have some sort of dress code... get used to it..

a little discipline and conformity cant hurt.. its not like they are being taught religion against their will..its a frickin dress code.... even NBA players have one... just clothes people...dont know.. my kids dont have an issue with it... thats the least of their worries

I am stunned why people think the only way kids can express themselves...not by their character, talent, athletic ability, academic ability, ....but by their brand designer clothing. Seriously, I think we give little kids too much credit. Kids wear what they see in their environment, peer pressure, pop culture. It's human nature to want to wear what your friends are wearing.

Since we're all going with anecdotal evidence, I remember distinctly kids in middle school making a huge obsession when Michael Jordans sneakers came out. I remember kids getting robbed out of lockers, kids buying sneakers during lunch, kids making fun of people based n sneeakers were. Friggin sneakers??

The point here is that schools should be a place of learning, that's the top priority.

And for the most part I don't think clothing makes much of a difference in who gets picked on. Typical argument I see. "well, yeah....but..there's other bad things in school and kids can still do this...so let's not do anything" I'm not suggesting school uniforms will solve all disciplinary problesm (far from it), but I think the impact of its use is significant and benefits everyone overall. That's why parents and teacher support it overwhemingly.

Conform to the norm, or reduce disobedience and distraction in the classroom? I don't see the diversity of a school full of kids wearing the same designer fad. I really think allowing kids who don't buy their own clothing to dictate dress code adds little to no value in society.

Again, that's a job. You can always find another job. Kids don't get paid to go to school. Let them wear what they want before they have to face the conformity of the real world.:whatever:

:up:agreed...it's the real world out their people not just a cupcake/pie/cake/pudding/poop/etc.

The fact that somebody has an orange, doesn't mean we need to steal their apple.

Actually it costs them more money. Because not only do they have to buy a gajillion outfits for them to wear after school, they also have to buy uniforms too.

And if by chance it did save them money, wouldn't that hurt the retail industry costing people jobs?

plus most jobs have some sort of dress code... get used to it..
Wow. I just said that people got their whole life to wear uniforms, and we should let kids be kids for a little while. Get used to it? That is not a reason to support it.

a little discipline and conformity cant hurt..

Conformity can. It robs people of their individuality. These are schools were talking about. They aren't Borg cubes and they aren't military units.

A little diversity doesn't hurt.

And clothing is not a form of discipline. It has nothing to do with discipline. And what about lunch time? Kids need to socialize. I remember being a teenager, during the first month of school, figuring out where are you going to sit at lunch. Searching for your friends so your not the one sitting alone with nobody to talk to. I can't imagine finding them if everybody wore the same clothes.

its not like they are being taught religion against their will..
Some schools do. It's that conformity you were talking about.

its a frickin dress code.... even NBA players have one... just clothes people...dont know.. my kids dont have an issue with it... thats the least of their worries
so what are their worries?

Bay County (Fl) Schools went to Dress Code last year, in the name of "discipline and to improve test scores".

Incidents of student misconduct and FCAT scores went in the wrong direction almost across the board

Tell those ungrateful crumbsnatching tax deductions to shut their cakeholes and wear the uniforms.

LOL! The FCAT is disgusting.:csad:

Its also a shame most High School Students are so ignorant. Dress Codes have been fought against and won in the legal system.

I tried to fight the one in my county - but the only true "civil rights" attorney in the Redneck Rivera is the local ACLU which didn't care about the case.

Maybe it wasn't the uniforms, maybe they are just bad a$$ kids who needs a kickin'

Had to where a uniform from elementary to junior high and hated every minute of it so definitely no

May I ask how old you are? Because the part I highlighted in bold made be burst out laughing. We should make friends based on clothes they wear? This type of value system is what causes our public schools to rot. Schools are here to educate students. Student need to learn respect themselves and their talent in other ways besides the clothes that their peers wear.

It's only disobedience when they do something they aren't allowed to do. I dressed a lot different from everybody in school. It wasn't a form of disobedience. disobeying means to do something against the rules.

And what about people with different cultures? We got to force them all to dress like American corporate desk jockies now?

Not all kids dress the same now, and they didn't when I was a kid either. We had kids dressing grungy, and we had kids wearing baggy clothes. We had kids dressing preppy. We had kids wearing pocket protectors and high waters.

And the fact that they dont' buy their own clothes is completely irrelevant. It's completely irrelevant, and not always true. I remember when I was 12 years old. I spent 3 weeks painting the trim on my grandfather's house earning money, so I could choose my own clothes. There is your disobedience for you.

And for my last few years I bought my own clothes as well, because I had a job. There is some more lack of disclipine and disobedience for you.

The fact is that a lot of kids enjoy their clothes and take pride in them. We don't want to suck the fun out of everything. Let kids be kids.

I'm 26. And if we are going to run the lives of children than we have to remember what it was like to be children.

I didn't say choose your friends based on the clothing they wear, but if you know your friend is wearing black pants and a red shirt it's easier to find him in a crowd. How would you find him if everybody is wearing the same thing?

And just because somebody wears something different form you, that doesn't mean they don't respect themselves. What about the kid with too much respect to go along with what all the other kids are wearing? You think uniforms will teach kids to respect themselves? LOL.

And no diversity is not what's causing our schools to rott. it's a lack of discipline, which has nothing to do with clothing.

They implemented uniforms in my high school the year after I graduated. So, I got lucky.

Publisc schools have a responsibility to educate students. That's the purpose of mandatory public schools. Public schools should be equipped with ability to stomp out unnecessary distractions...and if a dress code creates that environment where students respect themselves, then that should be used. Allowing peer pressure and clothing de-stratficiation dictate dress code policy and environment undermine's the school's ability ot carry out its purpose.

You like stating the obvious don't you? What people wear will not stop someone from getting an education. It's irrelevant. My god, you have to wonder how our parents and adults made it through the turmoil of non mandatory uniform schools. Jesus folks, get with the program.

And once uniforms are in place, parents will get ripped off, because corporations will bribe Super Intendants into getting them state contracts.

theres studies that say that uniforms reduce violence and disobedience.... so yes.
