Ok Hypesters, I'm wondering how others feel about this.

I think that when a person dies, if someone goes through the effort of making a thread for them, that thread should remain intact as a sign of respect.

The Hype likes to merge all the celebrity deaths in one thread... perhaps it saves space or something. I honestly don't know why the Moderators think it's necessary.

there is a thread that has a lot of celeb deaths in it. i assumed that was for lesser known or not as universally known stars.

But why? Why not let them each have their own thread? Does it really take up that much Hype real estate?

Probably because if they didn't merge them they would have to start allowing individual Hottie threads again as well?

it wasn't a forced thread that i know of, just kinda became a collective

I honestly wouldn't have noticed if they had just moved the Leslie Neilsen thread to the Celebrity forum... instead they merged it. So when I went to read about Leslie Neilsen's death I got to read about some female celebrity who died...

I don't mind having a thread for each actor who dies, but only one thread. I don't think we need three or four threads to discuss 3rd LOTR Orc from the left who died of a drug interaction

If it's someone really famous (like Michael Jackson), then they deserve their own thread. If it's someone who's lesser known (like the guy who played ***** on "Growing Pains") then they could probably be squeezed into the "RIP Celebrity Edition" thread.

Why? Was ***** worth less as a person than Michael Jackson? Shouldn't all deaths be equal.

Don't you want a hype thread made when you die?

That's a naive position to take, don't you think? Does anyone truly believe in their hearts that every life (or death) is equal?

I can truly say that every life's not equal to me. Michael Jackson affected my life and millions people lives. ***** didn't affect as many. It may sound mean, but it's the truth.

Btw, Leslie Nielsen should've gotten his own thread.

I miss Andrew Koenig. I was so sad to hear he killed himself.

I say let everyone have their own thread, especially big names. It's not like well known celebrities die each day and besides, there's many threads that exist on the hype that are more-less the same.

I think bigger names celebs and faces should get their own thread. If they let a huge sizeable impact they don't deserve to be bundled in with everyone else.

I mean god forbid, but what would happen if the Queen of England or the President to die today? Shouldn't they get their own thread?

I think we should put 2 bullets in each thread for the dead to make sure they don't come back as zombies.

I think the one thread for all the deaths is sufficient. It's like a mass burial/cremation!

Didn't you read my last line? I thought that made it pretty clear I was being hyperbolic:o

Well, whenever anyone tried to make one, a mod did kinda force it into the big one.

But I agree that I think that the bigger celebs deserve a thread of their own, where people can pay their respects, or if they died under mysterious circumstances, like say Brittney Murphy's young death, a place where fans can be kept up to date on the investigation.

But, it should be something kept strictly to the Celebrities forum. I don't need to got into there, the community, and a film or tv forum to see each having a thread on the same person.

The problem with the "less famous" criteria is that it all depends on Point of View. I know Edward D. Hoch was a great mystery short story writer, other readers probably know that as well. In my opinion he would have deserved his own thread when he died. However, someone who only knows movies or only knows music wouldn't have a clue who he was. If that person had "mod powers" they would be able to put his death in the "consolidated R.I.P. thread". It wouldn't be fair, because he has a larger body of work than Heath Ledger, but I could see it happening.

Yes.

Anyway, let each person have their own thread. There's no reason not to. If a thread's not popular it'll fade away.

I didn't realize that my merging a thread that had two posts in it into the general RIP thread would cause such a stir. That being said, I wasn't aware of the Nielsen remembrance thread that already existed in the Misc. Movies forum. Please feel free to continue the discussion in that thread.

This thread is just funny...

I do not see a big deal with having a thread for an actor that has died, as long as they do not already have an existing thread. SOOOOO, it would help if people did a little search first before starting their Thread of the Dead....

So far I don't think we have had many who already had their own threads, but in the future a quick search would help.

Ok, back to your mourning...
