Should they make another Punisher movie?

I preferred Ray Stevenson over Thomas Jane but Jane got the better movie. Like some said before me, War Zone was a pretty good movie up until Jigsaw became the comedic villain. Jigsaw should have made the movie a very dark and gritty movie but it was just filled with camp. Way too much camp.

War Zone was promising up until Jigsaw showed up.

Yea, and then Looney Bin Jim showed up and it crashed and burned.

Everything else was good about War Zone except the the villains. I mean why make Jigsaw someone like that? Plus the brother was a ******ed addition.

if they are going to make another Punisher movie, I guess it won't be for another 5 or so years probably, then they will probably have to leave "Punisher" out of the movie title.

Just call it something else, just don't put Punisher in the title. Then the box office will definitely be improved.

The Punisher has no real box office value anymore and never has.
The only reason the 2004 movie made any money was because Travolta was in it and that probably attracted a few curious film goers.

But otherwise, the character is just not popular enough to warrant another $30 million budget.

Either stick to straight to DVD or get a serious director to pull of a medium $40 to $50 million action epic without the Punisher name in the movie title.

They will probably need a few big names though to pull in any sort of crowd.

Jigsaw was HORRIBLE!!!!! His voice just gets right on my man boobs. I thought the movie was pretty good,I liked it more than the 2004 movie. Stevenson played a good Punisher and it was accurate to the source of material.

I can't believe I'm going to defend something from warzone, but there was way more wrong with the film besides Jigsaw. Maginty and his methhead free-runners, LBJ, everyone talking with a terrible Italian accent, the music, cartoonish violence, the script, direction, director. Sure West hammed it up big time, but from the first opening scene at the dinner table this film was doomed. Decapitation of old man + severed head dangling like a speedbag= waste of time for everyone involved and those who paid to see it.

In truth, you have to be a hardcore Punisher fan to like the movie...strangely,while Im not a massive fan and I aint a big fan of senseless disturbing violence,I enjoyed the movie nonetheless. Not a good movie, but certainly not awful.

Actually, I think it's the hardcore Punisher fans that dislike it more. Especially because of what comicfan4Life already listed.

On top of the $54,700,105 The Punisher '04 made, add the roughly $60 million in DVD sales and rentals, and you have a movie that made back it's budget just over 3 times. The DVD sales are what prompted a sequel to even be considered and more than made up for it's under-performance at the box office.

In DVD and Box office sales, War Zone made $20,543,449. It didn't even make it's budget back.

There's an interest in the character. And when handled well, as seen in the 2004 film, people will see it. War Zone was a crap movie all around, poor in just about every aspect except for maybe Stevenson.

PWZ was also pushed to December, which is more known for family and Oscar movies. Every other comic book "hero" movie I can think of came out in the summer season.

ok so i re-watched The Punisher Director's Cut with Thomas Jane and i honestly think its one of the best Marvel movies to date in terms of tone and relation to the character, faithfulness to the source material, and overall quality. I also re read "Year One" and "Welcome Back, Frank" by Garth Ennis and finally understood the movie.

That's great to hear.

Why they didnt just do a sequel to the Tom Jane Punisher movie is just beyond me, that movie was good enough as a start off point for a good Punisher franchise and Tom Jane just rocked in the role, I didnt have a problem with Stevenson, but Tom Jane just rocked it, he was great in the role and for him to only play it once is a damn shame.

What do you guys think of punisher in the avengers. Seeing as how marvel likes to combine the 616 with ultimate universe (1610) the current ultimate avengers 2 comic features the punisher on the team as the black ops captain america for jobs that are too dirty for the real cap. Seeing as how in the films Fury is so secretive about project avengers, I could buy him having certain members on call for certain jobs that require a more lethal approach.

Plus this guy, Craig Fairbrass is listed on imdb.com in the avengers movie and captain america film as the punisher.

... Well, Marvel can't use The Punisher yet. Until LGF lose the rights.

Hell, even Raimi talked about having The Punisher in a Spidey sequel.

I'd prefer to see The Punisher stay out of the collective Marvel movie Universe. What exactly would he do? They wouldn't let him kill anyone worth killing. "Oh, look! The Punisher killed background soldier #34!!"

The only time I'd ever want to see The Punisher share the screen with the rest of the marvel heroes is when Marvel gets the rights to all their characters back and makes a Punisher Kills The Marvel Universe movie. And that won't ever happen.

and that Craig Fairbrass guy playing The Punisher isn't true.

to me Dominic Purcell needs to play Frank Castle...but thats just me.

Jane tried for like 4 years to get a sequel, but in his words the studio kept wanting to have "goofy ****" in it. And everyone who's followed the the Punisher film series knows the direction he wanted to take the movie in.

IMDb is not reliable on any level really. Anyone can register there and change/add to cast lists. So unless Marvel secretly bought the rights back from Lionsgate and one lone person on with an IMDb account was in the know. It is BS.

Yeah, I see what you guys are saying and it sounds to good to be true and stuff, but I really want Frank on the big screen again. He deserves to be in a big mega blockbuster movie, but it won't happen, not anytime soon at least.

Also, another reason that this rumor should not have been taken seriously. Joss Whedon is directing the Avengers.

I'm not sure if the Punisher will get another movie.

See the thing is, in the comics he is pretty unique and special. But in the movies? We've seen characters like him a million times before.

I think the best bet is either a gritty HBO style TV show. Or Punisher as a supporting character, either protagonistic or antagonistic in another characters movie.

Not a full feature length movie.

I thikn maybe an animated DTV series or single movie could work. I still think they should play an industrial espionage angle instead of what weve seen on screen so far.
