I actually watched that episode last night...it was actually nice to see Peter have another love interest aside from MJ. I really think the MTV show was beyond the animated series in tearms of storyline. I liked the MTV version because it actually put the characters in a realistic setting....Peter cares for MJ but it doesn't mean he can't have an interest in someone else, or they can't have an interest in him. It was interesting to see the love triangle because it was so apparent MJ was jealous and that was a new aspect to see with those characters.
It really pisses me off that the show was just dropped after one season. It didn't even get a proper farewell episode and we were left with Peter throwing his costume away....LAME!
There is no reason for them to cancel this show. The animation was AMAZING, the stories were great and the voice acting was top notch...what was the downside??
Are you aware of the amount of fan flaming that scene with Indy got online? I found nothing wrong with it, but apparently at the time, a lot of fans had issues with Peter either: 1). Engaging in pre-marital sex, or 2). Engaging in pre-marital sex with anyone who was not MJ, Gwen Stacy, or maybe Betty Brant.
I actually liked that the MTV show had some realistic tendancies, including triangles, complicated decisions about feelings, and even hints at, gasp, people in college having sex. Criminy, you'd think it was 1950. I don't get any and I didn't have a problem with it.
Neil Patrick Harris was indeed a great Spider-Man. Not sure whether I found him better than Rino Romano (who now voices Batman in THE BATMAN), but he's up there.
FYI, Black Cat actually WAS supposed to appear in the MTV Spider-Man show, instead of Talon. But MTV insisted on certain guest stars, and when Eve was cast, they redesigned and altered her character to fit Eve personally. They really did stifle the hell out of that show, much like Fox Kids, at the time, stifled the hell out of the 90's Spider-Man (little violence or "fighting", trapping people in dimensions instead of dying, etc).
I do wish more "real" rogues had appeared in that show. With a gallery as vast as Spider-Man's, there's little need to create new villians who aren't up to par. I mean, Shakita and Terra-Dax were hardly Harley Quinn's. However, MTV Spider-Man likely had THE COOLEST Kraven the Hunter...ever. Which was great because I am one of the few who actually likes Kraven the Hunter; least the original one. And I agree, the finale was about as depressing as one can get, but it did pin down that the life of Spider-Man is a tragic one. Plus, as an original character, Indy could have been easier to write off. But, it did provide an unpredictable jaw-dropper of a finale.
