Siege Ends The Avengers

Herc would. Hawkeye yes. Thor I'm not so sure. Thor's a little stern and straight to the point.

Obviously you've never seen him hanging out with the Warriors 3 then.

Even then he seems more like the straight man there to their goofball antics. At least in his recent series he does.

My guess at Bendis' roster for AVENGERS will be:

Steve Rogers
Iron Man
Thor
James Barnes
Hawkeye
Spider-Man
Luke Cage
Spider-Woman
Wolverine

Spider-Man and Wolverine are the EIC mandated members; the ones who Joe Q has wanted on the Avengers since 2004. The "big three" are locks. Hawkeye and Barnes have also been confirmed. And Luke Cage is Bendis' favorite character in the universe. It is possible Spider-Woman could be gone, since she has her own ongoing for now, but who knows.

Guys like Spidey, Beast, Herc etc, don't need to hang around each other as much as they need a straight man. That's why (despite the groans of "editorial mandates") Spidey had some nice moments with Wolvie in NA. And Luke Cage. And why Beast and Wonder Man always made a nice team. If you can find the right way to bounce him off a straight like Cap, or Thor, it can be pretty funny.

The truth is, that's one of the reason's I'd like to see Wolvie stay around. I think they have a pretty good chemistry already. No need to invent a straight man for him. I'd also like to see the interaction between Thor and Wolvie. On one hand, I think Thor would really look down on him (pun kind of intended.) On the other hand, I think warrior-Thor would have to give him some grudging respect. (And I would LOVE to see some interaction between Wolvie and The Warriors Three. Something tells me he and Hogun would get along....) I think it could be a fun dynamic.

I love Romita Jr's art, but I think it's because I grew up with it in Spider-Man. Nostalgia value. I'm excited to have him drawing the Avengers book.

I couldn't say properly how horribly boring this roster would be. Two Captain Americas....I mean this is just the New Avengers only with Thor.

Spider-Man annoys Thor but Thor still appreciates that he's a valiant warrior. Or at least he has in past team-ups. On the battlefield, Thor tends to shut up and fight. Spider-Man does not.

Hawkeye has always been vocal on the battlefield, even with Thor around. Herc is to a degree (though jovial about the fun of fighting rather than incessant mocking like Spidey). I reckon Thor can see the tactical advantage Spidey's banter has. And Thor has often been celebratory and fun loving afterwards.

I don't particularly want to see Dread's lineup either. Luke Cage is fine and all, and fit in with the direction the Avengers took. But that time may be up. His recent heart surgery at least gives the possibility of benching him for a time without just writing him out as spending time with his family after all the craziness of the last couple years.

I also don't really want ten guys and Spider-Woman. Bit dull.
#Bucky Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Spider-Woman, Mockingbird (don't go to all the trouble they have with her return just to send her off to a WCW or whatever it was mini series), Hawkeye (Clint, not Kate), Spider-Man, Ms Marvel, and I'd be fine with Beast coming onboard to "rediscover his heroic side". This lineup has 3 fighters, 3 agile superstrengthers, and 3 energy manipulators/powerhouses. Seems like a good combo to me.

Keep Widow in the Cap books - we don't need fourteen martial artists again. Steve Rogers is welcome in my opinion.

Edit: Damn! And I forgot! Either add Hank Pym to that Lineup, or keep Mighty Avengers running so Hank can keep his momentum of redemption going without fear of being overshadowed by Tony again. Or even better have Steve Cap and Hank be the big two of a second Avengers team.

I like these promos. They seem much lighter than when they intoduced NA (which I guess is the whole point of the Heroic Age.)

Here's some suggestions for the quotes that will go with them.

Thor: "Big Ass Hammer....'nuff said"
Spider-Man: "Seriously, is EVERYBODY annoyed with me?"
Wolverine: "Yes"
Iron-Man: "Martinis anyone?"
Black Widow: "идти v жoпy!"

So i guess that promo last week wasnt the official roster, since Spiderwoman wasnt on it. In that case, i'm gonna bet that this new "Avengers" team is pretty much gonna be the original New Avengers plus Thor.

I don't know why anyone would have expected for her not to be on the team.

Clint (in whatever guise) will be on the team too, I expect; also, Noh-Varr is clearly being set up for a big role somewhere. Probably there'll be one left-field pick.

Ok so we got:

Bucky Cap (lame, it should be Steve)
Spider-Woman (Not a fan)

Now that we know the teaser isn't the Avengers line up....I'll go ahead and think how Bendis does, and try to create what I think the line-up will be.

Bucky Cap
Iron Man
Thor
Spider-Woman
Spider-Man
Hawkeye
Luke Cage
Wolverine
Beast

Basically it will be the New Avengers only adding Thor. I'm throwing in Beast as my hopeful as his genius would come in handy, He's been an Avenger before, and he really needs to go someplace where he can go back to being a hero and not hate what he is a part of.

Corp, you're doing that thing where you confuse what would please you with what has a remote chance of happening again.

I know, I let Avengers-mania get away with me. I'll readjust my expectations to something more realistic for Bendis' Avengers. And by that I mean I'll just let go of any expectations whatsoever and go back to being on the fence about even buying Avengers.

Yea, I got swept up in the REAL Avengers returning...unfortunately to Bendis, the New Avengers is the real Avengers. :(
