Siege Ends The Avengers

Seriously, all this over Spider-Woman being on the team? This is the same group that had Dr. Druid on it, right? And Rage. And Tigra. I can list countless times when WhatThe? would have been an appropriate response to an Avenger member, no less so than SW.

I like Tigra and Rage, and Dr. Druid was part of the Cap-Wolf arc, which was one of the first "holy s*** this is weird" comic arcs I ever read, so he has a special place in my heart. I can't stand Spider-Woman.

Plus, a lot of people figured Bendis would still keep his pet characters around even though this is ostensibly supposed to be a return to the classic Avengers spirit and at least something resembling a classic Avengers roster. This appears to be the first indication that that assumption was accurate.

Yea it just stinks of Bendis bias instead of who would actually be awesome as Avengers.

Pretty much this.

We all figured Bendis would keep his favorite characters around, but we were hoping he would instead force himself to break from his norm and make an actual classic feeling Avengers team to fit with the "Age of Heroes" moniker.

This is a huge sign that he will end up giving us New Avengers part deux.

On a side note I bet their first major villians are Ninjas. :argh:

I always thought the original New Avengers was a solid team that had a lot of cool potential but sadly it never went anywhere. As long as they take out wolverine and add thor and hawkeye, i'll be happy.

Which is similar to the B***hing about people B***hing you were doing 5 years ago.....redux. :o

Which is similar to........wait a second......I see what's happening here.....a classic Star Trek time-loop trap........I'm not falling for that......because I see what's happening here.....a classic Star Trek time-loop trap........I'm not falling for that......

Oh, come on! They also fought, um, dinosaurs, and uhm, Electrooooo, and uh, seriously intimidated some drug dealers.....

So when are Kurt Busiek and George Perez returning to Avengers?

:hehe:

Kang better show up and kill a bunch of ninjas to prove the old days are back.

So basically, *****es from 5 years ago, redux. Gotcha.
Well, Bendis' Avengers never improved or anything. They just got really popular with other people in the past 5 years. Not sure why you'd expect anything different from largely the same group of people reacting to largely the same news.

I'm all for Spider-Woman on the team, but NO CAGE AND NO WOLVERINE. There needs to be a classic line-up. BTW there's only 5 of these teasers, 3 to go. I don't know if that means only a 5 man roster, that's not a lot. There should be 7 on the team. Since Bucky's on the team, Black Widow should be a no-brainer.

No way it's only five (I don't think Bendis' team has ever had less than eight people on it); either there'll be multiple characters in some of the later ones or they aren't trailing the entire team.

Why can't Spider-Woman be a real Avenger? Her solo series is pretty good and she kinda feels like having Arachne on the team again.

Thinking back, JRjr said at one point that he'd be drawing Spider-Man on a team regularly a while back, so that would seem to confirm that Spidey makes the cut (not that there was any doubt).

Lets be honest they need to add some......color to the roster.
Luke Cage has the good luck of being a powerful character who is also black. I can see Luke being out of the game for a few issues but coming back.

If it's a matter of color, I'd rather see Falcon or Black Panther on the team.

Yeah guys, we only got one slot open. Too many black guys in one book is just taking away page space from characters we really care about.:down

It's more, from my perspective, that the roster is not realistically going to be outside the 7-10 range, and when you take into account the mainstay characters who are clearly going to be there (whoever is Cap, Iron Man, Thor, probably Hawkeye), space fills up fast. You need a few women (the most prominent twofer available would be Monica Rambeau, but she doesn't appear to be on Bendis' radar; though actually, thinking on it, the current Black Panther is Shuri), etc. So, yeah, it usually does come down to picking one. I would have no problems with Luke and T'Challa both on the team (they'd bring appreciably different perspectives, one being an aristocrat the other a lower class workingman).

I hope they just open up and have a giant roster. Even if it's like we've got 30+ members and some are just background characters for an arc and next arc is there turn. But why would they do that when they can just use 7 members over and over again and tell the same stories. Also Bendis f***ed up the Hood. He should have never became an Avengers villain.

Spideyboy said it best to me in AIM conversation. The roster should be huge and they should all live in Pym's Infinite Avengers Mansion. The roster could change depending on the situation at hand.
