The Defenders Sigourney Weaver is the Big Bad Villain of The Defenders

Surprised at everyone's reaction to Weaver. I thought she was perfectly fine for her role. If anything, they could had added more to her character, but I thought she did an amazing job in the story. Her story was one that made sense and I actually could get into, vs. that of the other villains.

Weaver's performance was on point but the character itself was disappointing.

She was a mix between Harold Meachum and Kingpin minus the violence: sick, desperate for a cure and very rich.

A great actress wasted on a forgettable villain.

Weaver is awesome, but yeah poor villain choice.

I understand you don't get Weaver to do kung fu scenes, but the "not getting her hands dirty" shtick did not work. She is supposed to be superior to her cohorts (or fellow fingers :whatever:), show it at least one time somehow.
This is all on the writing, no problem with her performance whatsoever.

And both Meachum and Fisk were better written.

Agreed. She brought her A-game, but the writers brought their C-game. I was disappointed as they oversold how great the villain was.

Yeah she was wasted. Such an amazing actress on a pretty by the numbers villain.

They promoted her as if somehow her character changed the Game or something. I was disappointed to see her die off so randomly.

I agree. I thought they gave her considerable screentime to shine. I thought she was a character who could only bring so much to the table, but I don't think she needed to bring more. The fact that she was flawed and subject to mistakes helped make her character. I have no complaints.

This villain was outright boring. A waste of Weaver.

I thought her character was meh. Generic sophisticated boss villain. Harold Meachum and Kingpin already filled that role. Both those characters I found more entertaining than Weavers.

I liked the character. [BLACKOUT]And having a well known actress in the role made for a decent twist when Elektra killed her.[/BLACKOUT]

Although an excellent actress , she was a strange choice for the main villain and didn't really work for me.

[blackout]The Director from Cabin in the Woods died twice.[/blackout]

They should have just made her the vessel for The Beast. That way, she comes across as truly threatening, and can show off her power without needing to do a bunch of complicated martial arts moves.

Also I wasn't fond of her motivation. It just felt so, underwhelming.

I agree with the general consensus. Weaver is great but the character was underwhelming, especially coming off of some of the other villains in the Netflix shows, which are among the best villains ever done on screen. Overall, the Hand was just kind of dull. Madam Gao remained interesting, but that was about it. I sincerely hope the Hand is truly over and done with.

What they did with Alexandra was no different than Cottonmouth but with less backstory or anything that showed me why I should dislike her at all. The only powers I saw her use was appearing in front of the Defenders in the restaurant... and eating in broad daylight. Ouuu, so scary.

I'd especially disagree with you on calling Kingpin generic.

im a big fan of Sigourney, i know she is incredibly badass. but i also know she's no spring chicken anymore, so im curious how her role was gonna pan out....

..... i felt that she was underutilized, or underdeveloped. maybe both. the five leaders of the Hand were kinda under developed to begin with, the only one that is really scary dangerous is Madame Gao. anyway Alexandra was pretty underwhelming, and really thats more on the writing and the time to develop her than it is on Sigourney.

I agree that she was underwhelming. At least she should've been introduced in one of the earlier series like Iron Fist (that would've brought more gravitas to that series) or even Season 2 of DD.

That way

her death would've carried more weight and wouldn't have been as wasted. Her character was not that great.

She was like Fisk or Cottonmouth. But without us getting to see their backstories and making them interesting/nuanced villains.

Exactly. I wish we could have gotten more of a scene regarding her illness. Reveal how weak she was and how important this plan was to her. Or why exactly the other Fingers followed her strategy.

I thought they were ultimately going to reveal her as someone else from the comics who has gone under many different names over the centuries. She was in the end just a made up villain for the show who ultimately was rather inconsequential. If she had been played by any other lesser-known actress, then

no-one would have been shocked by her sudden death at the hands of Elektra.

I liked her for the most part. It felt like they were taking their time setting her up and exploring her mortality and relationship with Elektra, but couldn't quite figure how to finish her arc properly. It meandered and felt abrupt when it ended with no great realisation to her.

I still feel like there was much to her character yet to be covered given how much they say about her history yet don't explore that much. Also I felt she could have done with some action sequences. Even if it would have required a double. Maybe they could have her come back, either through flashback or whatever.
