That was pretty much the presidential election of 1800 in a nutshell.

Goddamn, y'all have come out swingin'. Particularly you, Byrd. As I read your posts, I felt my five o'clock shadow coming in, and a cup of black coffee magically appeared in my hand. You and noir, man.

Tomorrow's the day -- or, more likely, night -- that the wall-crawler gets in on the action.

I'm kinda confused now. Are the Rangers a go, or have they been axed?

FEATURE: Bright Byrd likes the bad men of Gotham. Bothersome Byrd bangs out beaucoup blow by blows of bag men, bad men, and breaches of the pesky pervasive penal code. Bizarre Byrd's hankering for high-class hijacking hijinks and lust for alliteration leaves him a lamebrain lunatic with little more than lint for brains.

I guess that's a way of saying right on.

I'm just at a bit of a loss for an idea as to a threat other than Rita and Zedd that could bring the original Rangers back together. I wanted to think outside the box a bit, but I can't come up with any villains that have an endless supply of disposable henchmen like Putties. Maybe I'll just plug Rita and Zedd in there, and then see where the season goes.

I'll also find someway to incapacitate Kat in my opening post, setting up Kim's return, but how would you like to handle the Tommy/Kim romance, Supergirl. Still a couple, or maybe acknowledge the break up letter she sent him but have them reconcile, or keep them apart?

Kang's got tons of minion types.

Cap's timeline:

WWII
  • Steve Rogers becomes Captain America through Project Rebirth. Immediately after the transformation, Doctor Abraham Erskine is killed by a HYDRA spy.
  • Captain America heads over to Europe to fight with the Howling Commandos, including his friend Bucky Barnes, against the Nazis and HYDRA. Cap notices Barnes has abilities similar to his, but asks little questions on how they were obtained.
  • The Commandos' sole target is shifted to HYDRA when the Red Skull goes rogue and plans to destroy the world and remake it in his own image. Cap's team is aided by The Invaders, a new group of super powered soldiers.
  • Cap, Bucky, and Red Skull are believed dead when a prototype weapon designed by the Skull and powered by the fabled Spear of Destiny breaks up over the Arctic.

Year One
  • Captain America is found by a SHIELD monitoring team in the Arctic. The frozen body is transported to SHIELD's head scientist Doctor Hank Pym, who is amazed to discover Rogers is still alive.
  • Steve is thawed out and slowly introduced to the modern world by Pym. Rogers is allowed to travel and experience all that modern life has to offer. While he is amazed at the advances in technology, organizations such as Cobra Command worry him.
  • Captain America enlists in SHIELD in order to protect innocent people. In his first mission given to him by Nick Fury, he is sent to defend Boston from a large monster that rises from the sea. During the fight, he is aided by Wonder Woman. The two part ways amicably, though Rogers is clearly smitten by the Amazonian.
  • With Captain America officially back, Cobra begins launching attacks against SHIELD installations. Cap is given a team comprised of Hawkeye, Black Widow, and the Falcon with the sole goal of tracking down the Cobra Commander and bringing him to justice.
  • The team has many clashes with Cobra operatives such as Crossbones, the Baroness, Viper, and Flag-Smasher.
  • Cap and the Commander finally come face to face at the close of the year, but the villain escapes when Cap is forced to leave him and disarm an EMP that would delve the world into darkness.
Year Two
  • Cap's team goal is changed by Fury when The Hulk appears in the United States. Fury's goal is to secretly rescue Banner before the government can terminate or replicate him.
  • After the Hulk is driven from Gotham City by Batman and Superman, the team tracks him to a remote desert outpost. Cap goes in alone, and his enhanced agility allows him to stay out of the Hulk's grasp until he reverts back to Bruce Banner, who agrees to surrender into SHIELD custody.
  • The technology-worshiping terrorist organization AIM appears on the scene, and begins spreading a disease called the "Techno-Organic Virus". The virus turns humans into living machines AIM hopes to weaponize. The virus, however, turns out to be too strong, and humans die within days after exposure. The team infiltrate AIM's base, and manage to destroy all known samples of the virus, though its origin remains a mystery.
  • While Cap and the team continue their search for Cobra Commander, a string of assassinations carried out by super-powered teens draws them away from that goal.
  • The investigation leads them to The HIVE, a superhuman assassin creation lab that sells their brainwashed creations to the highest bidder. SHIELD tracks HIVE's location to the Middle Eastern country of Bialya. The team, including a salvation-seeking Bruce Banner, infiltrates the country and discovers the fortified HIVE base, and attack. With the help of a cyberneticly-powered, but not-yet-brainwashed teen named Vic Stone, the team manages to dismantle the HIVE, its leader Queen Bee, and her team the Fearsome Five. As the Hulk tears apart the base, Steve learns that HIVE's main benefactor was Cobra. Stone, with nowhere else to go, enlists with SHIELD.

Year Three
  • Cobra infiltrates a SHIELD super max prison and initiates a mass breakout. Queen Bee, the Fearsome Five, and Serpent Society escape and become part of the Cobra organization. In the chaos, Cap learns that Cobra intends to start collecting weapons of legend to achieve their goals.
  • In order to combat the seemingly-unstoppable terrorist organization, Nick Fury puts into motion the long-planned Avengers Initiative. Rogers is tasked with adding super-powered members to his team in order to match their enemies. Iron Man (James Rhodes) signs up, Hulk officially joins the squad, and Pym's protege Scott Lang (Ant-Man) and daughter Hope (Wasp) round out the new recruits.
  • The team's first true test comes when Wonder Woman asks for their help against a small incursion from the Underworld. The battle goes well, and Diana manages to seal Hades back into Tartarus. She warns that the worlds of Gods and Men are going to overlap soon, and that they should all be ready.
  • Cobra attacks STAR Labs in Central City searching for something. They are stopped by the combined forces of Cap and The Flash. Afterwards, Flash agrees to join the Avengers.
  • Wonder Woman's warnings come to fruition when Cobra finds the Tesseract, a powerful weapon from ancient times. Before they can use it, however, it is stolen by the trickster Loki, who had been manipulating the search for it since the beginning.
  • Loki attempts to use the cosmic cube to take control of Midgard and Asgard, but is stopped by the Avengers and their new ally, Loki's own brother Thor. The Tesseract disappears after the fighting, and none know where it has gone.

Year Four
  • On the trail of Cobra Commander in Qurac, Steve, Falcon, and War Machine are ambushed by Batroc's Brigade, a group of mercenaries hired to take out the group. They manage to escape and destroy a Cobra research facility searching for relic weapons in the Middle East.
  • Rhodes is appointed Secretary of Defense and leaves the Avengers. In response, Vic Stone, now codenamed Cyborg and upgraded with the help of Tony Stark, is promoted to be a part of the team.
  • AIM scientist George Tarleton develops a new strain of the TO-Virus and injects himself with it. He undergoes a terrible transformation, becoming the villainous MODOK. He ignites a murderous takeover of AIM, and unleashes the virus on the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC, placing hundreds under his control. Cap and the Avengers manage to stop him, but in doing so he kills the civilians under his thrall. The defeat shakes Cap to the core, and affects public sentiment towards Superhumans negatively.
  • Cobra attacks a SHIELD weapons storage facility. The Avengers intervene, but fail to stop the terrorist from making off with the fabled Ark of the Covenant. Still, Cap manages to come face to face with Cobra Commander. The two fight in the burning facility, and Cap manages to smash the Commander's helmet, revealing him to be none other than Cap's nemesis the Red Skull. Before Rogers can arrest the Skull for good, he's shot through the shoulder by an unknown assailant, and the Skull escapes.

The Avengers

  • Captain America - Leader and strategist
  • Black Widow - Second in command
  • Hawkeye - Marksman
  • Falcon - Aerial recon
  • Ant-Man - Infiltration and extraction
  • Wasp - Infiltration and extraction
  • The Flash - Extraction and offense
  • Thor - Heavy hitter
  • Hulk - Heavier hitter
  • Cyborg - Tech and weapons expert
  • Doctor Hank Pym - Technology supplier
  • JANET - An AI designed by Pym to aid the team. Named after his late wife and Wasp's mother.
  • Agent Phil Coulson - Government liason

Have we figured out a JLA roster yet?

I'm assuming Batman, Iron Man, and Superman are members. Probably also J'onn and Wonder Woman. Maybe Pietro and Wanda. I feel like Supergirl would be a good member too, though she could go to another team if she didn't want to be alongside her cousin. Maybe have a Titans team form.

Do we have X-Men yet?

Also, a good distinction between the League and the Avengers is that the Avengers are government funded, while the League is being funded by Wayne and Stark.

I wouldn't be opposed to the twins being members of the League. Maybe have Hawkman and Green Arrow as reserves. I feel like we need a GL, maybe with John Stewart since Tony fills the Hal role pretty well. But ultimately, as long we have a core seven, I think we'll be good. So maybe...

The Justice League of America

Superman - Leader, founder. The face of the League.
Batman - Financial backer, founder. Owner of the Hall of Justice.
Wonder Woman - Themiscirian ambassador, founder.
Iron Man - Secondary financial backer, primary tech supplier, owner of the Watchtower.
Scarlet Witch - Wielder of chaos magic, potentially the team's most powerful.
Quicksilver - Resident speedster, secondary mutant representative.
Martian Manhunter - Mars' sole survivor, founder, the League's SHIELD representative as "Agent Jones".

Reserves

Captain Marvel/Carol Danvers - Test pilot and Agent of SWORD.
Green Lantern/John Stewart- Lantern of Sector 2814, successor to founder Hal Jordan.
Aquaman/Arthur Curry - King of Atlantis, founder.
Hawkman/Carter Hall - Thanagarian recruit, reincarnation of Justice Society founder.
Green Arrow/Oliver Queen - Star City vigilante, The League's PR rep.
Black Canary/Dinah Lance - Daughter of JSA founder, original founder of the League.

And we'll have an X-Men as soon as I get my app sorted. I kinda made the mistake of including too many big names, so I'm trying to widdle it down on the basic teams.

Singular Universe: Brave New World Character Application

Character Name:
Kit *Walker XXth, The 21st Phantom, The Man Who Cannot Die
the_phantom_by_puggdogg-d630gyz.jpg
* For Ghost Who Walks

Alignment (Hero, Villain, Walking the Line):
Hero

Character Speech Color and Font (actually say what it is, like Blue Comic Sans):
Dark purple, Franklin Gothic Medium, bold

Powers and Abilities:
"The Phantom moves faster than the eye can see." - Old Jungle saying
The Phantom has no super powers, but is a near peak level human of great genetic stock. The Phantom relies on his physical strength, fighting ability (think more of a brutal brawler than martial artist), remarkable intellect, brilliant marksmanship with twin M1911 pistols, the strong reputation of being an immortal ghost and the considerable resources accrued from twenty generations of ancestors who took the same path.
The Phantom's rings.
The Phantom wears two rings which have been handed down from numerous generations. On his right hand is the "Evil Mark", a ring with a skull shape that becomes permanently indented upon foes he punches with it. On his left, "The Good Mark", a symbol of four crossing sabres. A symbol for those he befriends. Those under his protection.
Allies
The Phantom has a highly trained mountain wolf called Devil and a horse named Hero. These two - Devil in particular - are almost always by his side.
He also has a trained falcon named Fraka.
The Skull Cave, his home and base of operations located in the Deep Woods of the nation Bangalla, is protected by members of the local Bandar tribe, who guard the entrance and his secrets with their deadly poisoned arrows. The Skull Cave also contains the Skull Throne, an artifact of immeasurable value. This throne is made from Wakandan vibranium, gifted to his ancestor by Azzari the Wise, grandfather of current ruler of Wakanda T'challa, which can absorb and amplify the sound from surrounding "talking drums" from much further than could normally be heard by the human ear.
The Phantom also has numerous allies around the world in positions of varying global importance due to shared interests, including the loosely affiliated Defenders of the Earth. A "non-team" team of concerned individuals who will put their might and talents together in order to protect common interests and preserve the free world, time permitting.
A loose Defenders of the Earth roster consists of, but is not limited to:
Flash Gordon
The Phantom
Mandrake the Magician
Adam Strange
Black Panther
John Constantine
Namor the Sub-Mariner
The Silver Surfer

Character Origin/Major Events:
Pending. This is gonna be somewhat extensive.

Why this character?
Because I'm Australian. I grew up with the Phantom. For a long time (possibly to this day, I haven't checked the figures... it's still pretty much the only comic you can buy regularly at news vendors rather than specialty stores) it was the number one selling comic in Australia and it's daily strips were a lot of Australians only connection to ANY form of comic.
Plus, who doesn't love a pulp hero?
I listened to my friend Billy Zane... he's a pretty cool guy.

What can you bring to the RPG?
A faithful portray of the Ghost who Walks. A unique legacy character which should give me the versatility to tell a range of stories via old chronicles (I could basically set a story ranging from the modern day continuity going all the way back to 1536 - the first Phantom), or modern day action.

Hound, you beautiful Australian bastard. You've just made the day of this fan of the 1996 film.

"Hound is rough on roughnecks." - Old Jungle Saying

And you have no idea how much I wanted to slip J'onn onto that Defenders of the Earth roster and hope nobody noticed it...

Do it. The man is a bigger hero outside of the U.S. anyway, particularly in the Southern Hemisphere, where most pulp stories tend to be set.

Can I just say I'm so glad we've got players for this game doing awesome work. I look forward to working with all of y'all

They came without warning.

That was usually how it happened, but in the past at least they had expected the unexpected. They had always been on guard.

Now though, Tommy Oliver thought the fight had been over. His part of the fight, anyway. Lord Zedd and Rita Replusa had fled into space, and Zordon had recruited a new era of Power Rangers to take the fight to them. Tommy knew it wouldn't exactly be a retirement for him, bit he was looking forward to some time as an inactive reserve.

The sneak attack by the Putty Patrol had seen an end to that, and a peaceful day hiking in the hills with Kat. She was the only one of the group to stay behind and attend college in Angel Grove as well, and it was comforting to still have a familiar face around.

Tommy pulled himself to his knees and glance over at Kat. The odd angle at which her leg was contorted looked anything but comfortable. It looked like he was going to be in this fight on his own.

Normally a Putty Patrol would be a workout, but no huge problem. The suddeness of the attack, and the sheer numbers though required drastic measures. Thankfully, he still carried another old friend with him. After all these years, he couldn't stand to be without out it.

He reached around to the back of his belt, and pulled the gold morpher free.

Well, I've got my next post about half-written, but I've decided to hold on to it until I come back from Europe. I think I've left Tony at a decent cliffhanger for now.

Keep it up everyone else, I'm enjoying what I'm reading thus far.

Singular Universe: Brave New World Character Application:

Character Name: Philip Sheldon Junior, known as Philip Sheldon.

Alignment (Hero, Villain, Walking the Line): Hero.

Character Speech Color and Font (actually say what it is, like Blue Comic Sans): Brown Verdana.

Powers and Abilities: None.

Character Origin/Major Events: There are next to no major events in Philip's life. That’s kind of the point. Philip Sheldon Junior is the son of the legendary Daily Bugle photojournalist Philip Sheldon, whose iconic photographs throughout the twentieth century became synonymous with the Age of Marvels and won him worldwide acclaim. Though a great photographer, Philip Sheldon was a far less distinguished father and husband and his dedication to his work often left little time for his familiar responsibilities. Philip Sheldon Jnr.’s mother his father and remarried shortly afterwards and driven by resentment caused by the sense of abandonment he felt, he would in turn disown his father entirely and cut contact with him.

For the best part of two decades Philip Sheldon Snr. has sought to reconcile with his son, sending him one letter a month throughout this time with photographs of his travels enclosed. Most of which have been discarded unopened. Now with Philip Sheldon Snr.’s passing near he sits down to pen one final letter to make amends with his son and send him on an adventure he hopes might help repair their seemingly irreparably damaged relationship.

Why this character?: There are a lot of big characters in this game and I thought I’d go in the complete opposite direction and go small scale. Philip’s a normal man in a world of Marvels, has no powers, and writing him will give me a chance to show how exactly the “small people” see the world they’re in. He won’t be acquiring powers any time soon, nor will he be directly encountering anyone, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a story of his own to tell.

What can you bring to the RPG?: Posts. Lots of posts.

Provide a short sample post as your desired character, in three paragraphs or more and featuring at least one line of dialogue:

It had been such a long time.

Philip Sheldon couldn’t remember the last time he’d put pen to paper and written with his own hands. There was a time once long ago that it was a daily event. Now his skeletal hands could barely hold a pen and it took him all the strength he had to lift his arms.

The nurses had offered to have someone write it for him if he were willing to dictate it but Philip had refused them. It was important to him that he write it with his own hand, as illegible as his handwriting had become. This would be the last letter he would ever write. Best that it be by his own hand.

The cancer had ravaged his body and by the doctor’s estimations he had but a few days left on this Earth but Philip did not feel a sense of loss. The wonders he had seen were incomparable. He had seen things most men could only dream about, stood shoulder to shoulder with Marvels, even watched with his own eyes as Godzilla strode out of the Pacific.

His only regret was that he had not been there for his son. He knew that his ex-wife had remarried some four years after they had been divorced and that the man she married was a kind-hearted, temperate one, who had been there for his son in a way that Philip was never capable of doing. Indeed, he had been more of a father to Philip Jnr. than he had ever been. But the boy bore his name, his blood ran through his veins, and that counted for something.

His hands shook as he began to write, hoping desperately his addled memory would not fail him when he needed it the most.

“One last adventure,” Philip muttered. “That’s all I ask.”

Who's ready for a never-been-done-before, winding human interest story about a son's troubled relationship with his father? Anyone?
