Smoking bans: Good or Bad?

Believe me smoking bothers some people, including me, just as much as a fat guy peeing on my table while I eat.

Um, guess WHAT!
If there was a restaurant where they allowed people to piss on my table....I WOULDN'T GO THERE.
And if I did go there, I'd have no right to complain when they did it.
Is it starting to sink in at all yet ???

I've actually read many articles by Libertarian non-smokers who find it disgusting but argue quite elegantly for the truth, that it isn't any of your business, that no one's forcing you to go to places that allow smoking, but you want to force people not to allow it on their own property. That's wrong.

I'm all for the "can't smoke within 25 feet of an entrance or exit" thing, because that IS forcing people to endure unwanted smoke, when it's in public.

I'm talking about a bar or a casino that chooses to cater to smokers and makes the decision to sacrifice any profits that would've come from smoke-haters.

I don't attended bars or casino because of the smoke. I don't care about smoking in bars, that's fine by me. I'm talking about public places where adults who don't smoke and kids frequent.

Well, that's not what we've been talking about in the thread. We've been talking about banning it from private enterprises, no matter what the owner wants, or, banning it outright like pot. I don't think any of the smokers here would mind trading off smoking in public places if it meant there would be bars or restaurants where we could smoke.

Um nothing you can say about smoking will "sink in" with me. I was using the fat guy peeing on a table and an example of how nasty smoking is to me. And just like the fat guy peeing on the table they should have a public ban on that as well.

That's great, I already said, no problem with banning it in public, common areas, because that DOES force it on the unwilling.

But that's not what we're talking about here. These bans say that no establishment, no restaurant, bar, casino, theater, etc. CAN have smoking if they want it.

That is wrong. No way around it.

So, do you understand that these bans say that NO bar or casino can choose to allow smoking, and yet you say you have no problem with bars and casinos allowing it as long as those who don't want it around aren't forced to endure it, and yet you say it should be publically banned.

I read the first post and commented on it, in that post it said nothing about bars and casino's just a smoking ban. Where I live they are trying to put in a smoking ban anywhere were kids can go to smoking would not be allowed. So get off your high horse and go smoke some more cigarettes.

In Manitoba, people are adapting (I guess) to it. I think it's cool, except it, along with rising coasts of licings, helps keep the restaurants and bars empty. It's good for clean air, but not for business.

It should be up to the owners of the establishment to decide whether their business allows smoking or not.

Those business should clearly state that "This establishment allows smoking", hopefully in big enough letters so that people can grasp such a simple thing.

This naturally excludes the adults... I mean idiots that cannot read. They deserve a smack on the back of the head for their troubles
