Fox does it's own distribution internationally... And that's why you normally see the international release dates in sites of Fox movies, 'cause they don't depend on local companies buying the movies for distribution...

Yea, that's what I thought.

Wow, things are getting funnay around here.

I liked the movie but didn't love it so I don't have a problem with it not being a massive blockbuster but still raking in the cash.

Agreed, I hope this makes just enough to get more movies, but just too little to maybe make them sit up and realise we want more quality. Lets face it people, Fox arent letting these rights go to Marvel.

"Fox" is part of News Corporation, an international media company. The group has international distributions companies (usually with the name "Fox" somewhere). How they choose to distribute profits within the group is the business of the board, shareholders, accountancy rules, tax authorities and so on.

Why can't anyone have a discussion on a box office thread without regressing to a kindergarten level?

Yeah, people tend to use box office to attack movies they don't like, i.e. Hulk, SR, TIH (repeat offender) and now Wolverine.

So basically, the money earned overseas is still in house? It's still Fox's money?

Yes, and no, according to his explanation... The several Fox's around the world are not part of main FOX, but part of the same group that the main FOX is a part of... but still, the people that gets the money from the movie in the US, gets the money from the rest of the world, so, in the end and what is important to the discussion, worldwide money is good for the movie.

Yes, you could think of "Fox" as a group of related companies.

Part of the finance for the film was provided by Dune Entertainment, an investment vehicle created to invest in 20th Century Fox films. The film should also get a rebate from the australian government of approx 15% of the production costs in Australia.

We just don't have the information (or the skills) to tell how profitable a particular movie is.

Star Trek is what too a bite out of Wolverines rear. And i would not underestimate what Star Trek will do over seas just because it only made 35 mill. Give it time for in the end ST will out do Wolverine. But don;t get me wrong i liked both films. But Star Trek was better in script acting and so on not matter what some old foggy trekkies think.

I agree. Not because I enjoyed Trek more (wich I did), but 'cause I think the movie has something to love for everyone...word of mouth is going to be awesome for Trek.

Depends.

Not all studios have distribution bureaus in every inch of the world. Sony primarily handles the upper pacific rim while Fox is dominant in Australia/New Zeland/Tasmania and has Distribution offices in Europe and South America. Sony and Universal have the same regions but are more dominant in certain parts of the globe.

Often times Studios band together to cut distribution costs. Fox teams with Sony, Disney, Universal or Paramount for distribution within certain countries if it's cost effective for them to distribute as opposed to their own agency to handle. This is why you'll see films that have Sony logos when it's a Fox produced movie.

Plus, you have to take into account the money conversion(which you always lose some during the transfer), Labs, post houses and various vendors that also cut into those international distribution costs.

There are many more reasons why the International Box office isn't as vital for the studio as the Domestic Box Office. Unless you have a movie like the DaVinci Code which made a ass load of money Internationally than Domestically and still received a sequel.

Fox no doubt, like all the studios share the pot internatonally.

I agree. :D

I talked to everyone and they don't want to see anymore Wolverine or X-Men movies, so hopefully FOX will get the point. Wolverine isn't barely a respectable character, he is a man with claws who can't die. Excuse me, but I don't relate to that. The only reason I can explain this movies somewhat acceptable B.O. #'s is Gambit, who is still very popular from his role in the animated series and for being the self-proclaimed king of mon-ami.

That must've taken a while

Ultimatejustin is literally insane :hehe:

Have you guys seen his thread about his ideas for the new Spidey film? It's comedy genius I really recommend you hunt it down.

And his suggestions for the new Batman films title are hilarious :D

But saying all that, he does have a point about Wolverine I suppose. But really, it's all about the mental pain Logan goes through rather than physical pain.

Wow...Wolverine made less than expected. It pulled in 26.4 million this weekend which means it dropped 69%. That is a very large drop. Trek pulled in nearly 80 million. The last big weekend for Wolverine is this weekend and if it doesn't make over 10 million, then this won't make back budget domestic.
