Snyder Throws a Sucker Punch

You also reunited with Zack Snyder on Sucker Punch this year, where you play Mrs. Schultz. What can you tell me about her?
I’m actually in the middle of filming right now — I go back tonight and shoot tomorrow morning. I play a dual character: this Polish, 1960s psychiatrist, and in the alternate world, I play a dominatrix-slash-madam of a brothel. The character’s last name is now Gorski.
Zack Snyder really loves to make you Polish.
I know! [Laughs] I know, it’s so funny. We kinew we wanted her to be Eastern European in some way, and I was exploring different things and found this Polish voice that felt right for her. Zach really loved the idea, and then we were like, “Oh my God, Sally Jupiter was Polish! How bizarre!”
Are you involved with all the weapons training and fight sequences for Sucker Punch?
No, unfortunately I’m not. I do have a really cool song-and-dance number that I’ve been working on. The truth is that I would love to have been involved, and I’m actually training with the Navy Seals [with the other actresses] because I’m there, and it’s like, why not? So I’ve been working out with the girls, and they’ve been kicking ass. It’s going to be like nothing you’ve ever seen, for sure.
Do you get to actually sing in your musical number?
Oscar Isaac and myself, we sing a duet. I don’t know if I can say what the song is yet, but yes, I do sing and dance.
Have you done that onscreen before?
You know what’s funny? I’ve just been terrified of singing for most of my life, and of late, I’ve done so much of it. I did a short film that Joe Gordon-Levitt directed me in where I play a rock singer, and in Elektra Luxx, there’s a very small dream sequence where I sing and do a little dance. I’m like, I’ve gotta get my act together! This is a new chapter for me, and I love it. I love having my limits be pushed.

Singing?WTF is Snyder making?

No idea. This could be quite strange. But it's interesting...

I can already imagine it. It's quite unique.

Zack Snyder Drinks His Last Sucker Punch

Friday, January 22nd was the last scheduled shooting day for Zack Snyder's latest fantastical opus, Sucker Punch, which means the cast and crew are probably going to party it up over the weekend before saying goodbye to their Vancouver shooting grounds. Snyder's got a long post production schedule ahead of him, though - the film isn't set to hit theaters until March 25th, 2011 (Snyder does like that month of March).

2011? I thought this was out this year, why is such a long PP time needed? I didnt think this movie would have loads of CGI or anything.

It was supposed to come out this year in March but after Watchmen failed, it seems WB's committment faltered and actresses started being replaced. So the start date got pushed back.

Gutted, this was one of my must-sees for this year :csad:.

Any updates on this at all? Any chance of a trailer coming soon?

Sucker Punch Won't Be 3D? Zack Snyder Unsure of Conversion

File this under obvious. MTV recently talked with director Zack Snyder about his upcoming action movie Sucker Punch (that we'll be get a look at during Comic-Con). It was announced in March that that Sucker Punch would be going 3D (in addition to Green Lantern) but apparently that was a bit premature. Snyder explains: "We've looked at a bunch of conversions, so whether or not we have the time to do it right — I'm not going to do it if we don't have the time to really be meticulous… It's such an awesome piece of work and everyone's worked so hard to make it awesome, so I don't want to screw it up with bad 3-D." Me either!

Zack's wife & producer Debbie Snyder takes over. "There are all these movies that want to be converted and we just haven't felt like we've seen that proof yet. Visually, Zack's done an amazing job. It's such a spectacle in and of itself and it's so fantastical that it doesn't really need the 3-D." Then don't convert it to 3D! I know Warner Bros recently enacted an all-tentpole-movies-in-3D policy of sorts, but they should realize that audiences don't like converted 3D, even if Clash of the Titans did make them a boatload of money. I can't tell you how happy it makes me to hear that a filmmaker like Zack Snyder realizes it's a bad idea to convert.

Beyond the 3D aspect of the movie, you should be looking forward to Sucker Punch because it's an original idea (and we all know how rare that is). "This is Zack's first original screenplay, him and Kurt Johnstad who was his writing partner on 300," Snyder said. "I think that's really exciting. Everything is so derivative right now in Hollywood, to actually have something that's original is refreshing." It certainly is and from what I've heard about it, it'll be very badass. It's not confirmed that Sucker Punch will no longer be in 3D, but I have a good feeling that's the way they're leaning. We'll let you know when or if we hear any official confirmation.

Now before people start throwing a hissy fit and complain about 3-d in general , this article focuses on bad-3d and specifically the half assed stuff we've seen so far with conversions.
Snyder and Nolan rightfully say that if stuff is rushed , you just won't be able to get the desired results. Titanic is going to get a 3-d rerelease and Cameron is hard at work converting the movie. But unlike the stuff in COTT or TLA which basically took place in a few months , Cameron will likely be spending a year ( or longer) on the conversion process. Although Cameron is a super perfectionist , it still means that it takea a long time to work on converting the shots.

With the release dates set it's understandable that Snyder doesn't want to f**ck up his movie by converting it with crappy 3-d.

i think its cute how they make it sound like Snyder is in control. he is not. like Nolan is not.
if WB decides to make a cheap fast 3D conversation it will happen. doesnt matter what the director and what the producer thinks.its sad. but it is how it is. Alice is still a huge movie. and it was a fake 3D movie. Clash making a lot of money also didnt help.quality? with Alice and Clash making so much money?

look at Bay. the 3D is so important to studios that Bay is making a 3D movie. he had 2 options.
-3D conversation
-native digital 3D movie.

so since he didnt like the results he had to choose native 3D.

^yeah but in bays case 3-d was chosen before production, not being tacked on after

also nolan has a pretty tight hold on the fate of his movies now, but yeah snyder has no control, just look at the actress situation

my point is that 3D is so important to the studios that even Bay and Nolan will have to realese a 3D movie.

so Snyder and hes Wife are not important IMO. what they are trying to do is go out in the public and say tha tthey are not happy with the result. now they are expecting from the internet community that they will complain about the 3D. then Snyder and hes wife can show to WB that people dont like the 3D conversations.

what Snyder thinks is not important . because no director likes the 3d conversations IMO. its just promotional BS for the masses. i think they all are forced to convert to 3D.

IMO

Except he is. he just told the world he's not using 3-d on his movie.
Was he interested ? Yes.
Would the movie have been better ? That is up for debate but he did say that if he had more time , he'd have explored this further

The fact that he would've released a half assed version of Sucker Punch with 3-d because he just didn't have enough time to fully convert the movie ,just is the reason why he decided not to go 3d. You may say that he's not in control and use Bay as an example but things are different with sucker punch ( 3d conversion post shooting as opposed to shooting native 3d with cameras that can handle Bay's shooting method).
So unless WB does release 3d version , i'm going with this as confirmation that we won't be seeing sucker punch as converted 3d movie

As for bay.
You are right in saying that 3d is important to studios. But Bay was critical of conversions . He did say that he shooting native 3d is the best option but at the same time found the cameras not practical enough.
But i think that this was before he met Vince Pace. During development of Avatar , Pace worked closely with Cameron to design the new 3d cameras. He was pretty much finished but i think 2 weeks before shooting would start , Cameron came up with list of new stuff that he wanted to. Pace went back to the drawing boards and designed the camera to all the specifications .

He also has designed a different camera for Tron Legacy. So i wouldn't be surprised that the studio and Bay contacted Pace to design a camera that could shoot 3d Bay style. And he did just that.

my point is that 3D is so important to the studios that even Bay and Nolan will have to realese a 3D movie.

I agree. But it won't be Sucker Punch. In Snyder's case we'll get a native shot 3d movie. In Nolan's case , it might be something where he'll really have to take his time. His arguments on 3d ( aside from wearing the glasses) , is that he would have to do a conversion because of his love for shooting things on film. The problem is that to really convert a movie well , you really need to take your time. Hence why i used Cameron and Titanic. Titanic is slated for a 2012 release and currently Cameron is working on the converting process. If Nolan will release a converted movie , he'll likely will have to spend nearly 2 years after shooting to finish post.prod and converting .

Yes they are important. Unlike dim witted individuals like Louis Letterier , Snyder does have a pretty good status at WB. They won't just ***** him off. Not after he's given them 300 , made watchmen for them without massive losses ala speed racer. Not to mention that the WB exec. are hoping that he'll direct a 300 sequel.
They , like Nolan now , are in a position to tell WB that they won't screw up their movies with lame 3d. Snyder is ready to use 3d but only if it's done right. And i do think that WB is looking at how the public is reacting to converted movies.

IMO

No they aren't.

Ugh,the asian girl has fishnets on her legs,it's hot,but not on her.

What's wrong with it on her??

As long as the girl is hot naturally regardless of her "type" fishnet stockings just up the attraction even more.

umm nope...I only heard of her due to High School Musical, but I figured she disappeared....it happens with Disney people
