Love the posters.

This looks like a modern hip version of Sky Captain.

The new character banners are really nice, so pumped to see this movie.

Does anybody else get the impression that this is Zack Snyder's answer to Scott Pilgrim? I'm sure that wasn't his intention, but I don't know if anybody knows what to make of the marketing. It throws a billion things at you and is has the same kind of exxagerated reality to it. (Eerily, it also shares the same initials.)

No. there's a narrative throughline you can follow from 300 to Watchmen, and even Legend of the Guardians, pretty much leading him to what we see in Sucker Punch. And I feel like the context for the visuals is completely different.

I agree that the content and visuals are completely different, but that kind of anything-goes type of absurd over-the-top fantasy with samurais and robots and WWII soldiers and whatever Snyder can think of reminds me of the approach that Scott Pilgrim took. I'm sure the films are completely different otherwise, and I'm not accusing him of ripping off (or even being inspired by) Scott Pilgrim. But the approach feels similar.

Additionally, I feel like the general audiences will have a similar reaction to it.

I think you are looking too deep into it. I think it's more simple than that. In America...the general audience can't open their mind enough to samurairobots and over the top fantasy. :) It's just too different for them.

Are you saying people are not going to see it? :oldrazz::o
I think it's certainly a hard sell. Does it look cool? Sure. Are the girls hot? Absolutely. But I think it's also really out-there and bizarre to most of the GA. I think if people were confused during the Watchmen trailer, they'll certainly be confused about this.

the reason Hollywood dumbs down things and makes things generic is because they KNOW the general audience won't be drawn into anything too "out there" or different. Sad but true. It's why films like this are gems...because sadly, we don't get to see too much original content nowadays. It just doesn't sell.

(I was making fun of Scott Pilgrim :oldrazz: )
I don't think its that hard of a sell

hot chicks, check.
dragons, check.
samurais, check.
kicking ass, check.
Burlesque'ish, check.
a wonderful put together trailer, check.

I agree completely. And I'm not making a statement about how the film will be. I'm looking forward to Snyder doing something original. I think the movie looks visually stunning and shamelessly absurd. I'm just saying that with something like Sucker Punch that mixes all of those things that you mentioned with little to no explanation outside of "It's a dream," you run the risk of the audience being weirded out.

There are too many women in it they'd like to see naked (not to say any of them will be in the movie, but in genera), and some they HAVE seen naked, so they'll support anything they're in, for it to weird out that many people. :woot:

Damn, this movie has the greatest posters.

Hot girls, samurai demons, Nazi zombies, orcs, castles, futuristic cities, giant robots... where has this been all my life?

Those posters look spectacular, as do all the posters for Snyder's films...

...GOD I CAN'T WAiT TO SEE WHAT HE'S GONNA DO WITH SUPERMAN!!!

Those are badass. WB has amazing poster art for their films.

They still respect the art form and try keeping the integrity of posters despite the actual movies quality. Good on them.

Yup,it's nothing but a safe choice.

That is a good way to put it.
