The Dark Knight So what did Mr. Nicholson think of Ledger's Mr. J?

I love both Jokers but don't really care what Jack Nicholson thinks about Heath's performance. If asked you know he won't give a real answer anyway. I love Jack as an actor but as a person he seems kinda rude. I think he's been wayyyy too famous for too long. Kinda sad.

haha thats what makes jack so cool, hes just a typical hollywood badboy, even in his 70s

I agree, although I didn't love Jack's Joker. Was pretty good.

Jack's portrayl of the Joker was the only portrayl of a Batman villain from the Burton/Schumacher series that DIDN'T suck.

The only thing i think was missing from his Joker was just a little bit more theatricality, i understand this Joker was written to be more morbid and gritty but i still think there is a little twinkle in his eye thats missing.
ramming a guy's head into a pencil and passing it off as a magic trick isn't theatrical ?

Yeah, it was re: the Ambien. All the Nicholson bashing's a little mean to be honest; hope this thread doesn't facilitate that.

Why does Praise for Ledger = slagging for Jack?

Jack gave us a fab and funnier Joker in the context of Burton's flick in 1989 at the height of the Topps bubblegum era when Killing Joke had barely hit the shelves .... Heath gave a great one in the context of a Nolan film post 9/11, twenty years later.

And besides .... Antoine's exit "hot under the collar" is as memorable as death by graphite, and that scene with Jack Palance after dark still scares the s**t out of me as much as any of Ledger's darkest moments.

And where the hell is that interview? :oldrazz:

totally agree man, that scene when joker comes out of the dark, as a kid it scared the crap outta me because he wouldnt come into the light but you could still see the white skin barely, it was creepy! ledgers joker was TOO in your face creepy, but jack had subtely.

no.....joker, penguin and catwoman were the only villians that didnt suck. schumacher villians were the only ones that sucked, HARD.

Nicholson, Pfeiffer, DeVitto, Walken, all gave memorable performances in the Burton films. Certainly some of you can appreaciate this.

I'm really hoping that Nolan ups the ante with his next set of villains, as so far only The Joker and to a lesser extent Two-Face have become particularly memorable villains in his movies. Ra's Al Ghul was terribly underused, a character who could have easily over-shadowed Bale's Batman in BB. So much potential there.

I agree for Ra's but I really like what Nolan and Cillian Murphy did with the Scarecrow even though he was of course also underused.

Agreed. I can sorta give a pass on BB, since so much time was devoted to Bruce, but generally speaking the villains do deserve some shine.

Shame we prolly only have one more film to look forward to in this particular series though.

What was wrong with Catwoman?

My beef with Penguin and Catwoman is this... they AREN'T supposed to be crazy.

Burton's intrepretations of the characters took a SEVERE left turn. Pfeiffer and Devito both did good jobs with what they had though.

the scene from 89 that scared the crap outta me when i was a kid was when he came out of the plastic surgery clinic. the look on the doctors face "my....god". and jacks voice "mirror.....MIRROR!!" and then when he went into that maniacal laugh walking up the stairs. scared tha living crap out of me!

What did Romero think of Nicholson, that's what i would like to know, link anyone ?:woot:

Hey everyone, check this out!

From IMDB, Batman 89 trivia:

Sean Young was originally cast as Vicki Vale, but broke her collarbone while filming a horse-riding scene with Michael Keaton. The scene was subsequently written out of the script.

Willem Dafoe, David Bowie, 'John Lithgow' and James Woods were considered for the Joker.

Robin Williams was considered for the role of The Joker; he would later be considered for The Riddler as well. Jack Nicholson got the role of The Joker but demanded top-billing and a lucrative deal that gave him royalties on all merchandise.

Alec Baldwin, 'Charlie Sheen', Bill Murray, Pierce Brosnan and Tom Selleck were considered for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Mel Gibson was the original choice for Bruce Wayne/Batman but was forced to turn down the role due to his commitment with Lethal Weapon 2 (1989).

Michael Jackson was asked to write and perform the songs for the movie, but he had to turn it down due to his concert commitments.

Jack Nicholson received a percentage of the gross on the film, and due to its massive box-office took home around $60 million. As of 2003 it is still the single-movie record for actor's salary.

At one point, Warner Bros. considered doing the film as a big-budget comedy in the vein of the popular television series, with Bill Murray considered to play Batman, and Eddie Murphy considered to play Robin.

Jack Nicholson said of his role, "The thing I like about The Joker is that his sense of humor is completely tasteless."

According to Variety, Daniel Day-Lewis was considered for Batman/Bruce Wayne.
